Yes. That Tamron Hall! Ok, so it's about a Chicago news reporter that is sucked into the case of a missing Black girl. There's a lot of social commentary, and its a great setup for a series........but this book needs a structural/developmental edit. Lots of repetition and rambling unfortunately. I love Tamron Hall, and with the right team this concept could be a very cool series.

American Teen learns that her Dad is the Crown Prince of Japan. She struggles to learn royal protocol, but is learning how to be a true daughter of Japan and also stay true to herself. The books is not as whimsical as this cover suggests, but it was fun and there's a handsome bodyguard thrown in for a secret romance.

Here's another Hades and Persephone retelling. They are everywhere these days. Well in this version they decide to stick it to Zeus by fake dating in public...and in public includes Hades' sex club. This felt very mafia romancey...very beauty and the beasty...but it was fun and I enjoy seeing people upend the classics.

He's in advertising, she's a Hollywood starlet. Her personal life is stressful, and they decide to fake date for the paparazzi. I wanted more Hollywood luxury in this book, but it was nice to see two people band together to support and help each other out. Very cute, and as long as Guillory writes these cute books, Imma read em🤷🏾‍♀️

I bullied a coworker into reading Gone Girl, and they made me read this in the spirit of reciprocity. This book is about a famous artist who murders her husband and refuses to speak another word after. (Which, honestly is a smart legal strategy) A psychotherapist enters and is determined to get to the bottom of things. This book is built on unreliable info, which is not good for the pandemic trust issues I've developed over the past year 😩

One works nights, the other works days. They only communicate through post-its left around their tiny shared apartment. This was cute, but the side stories about her ex and his brother are intense. I'm all for romances celebrating the love between broke people who gotta shack up!

Professional scammer dedicates her life to robbing rich men. We stan! While on a heist she meets and falls into a lusty night with him. In the morning she steals his watch and his car. This novella is definitely more erotica, but also gave me fun Mr. And Mrs. Smith vibes. It's like a love at first sight but includes some felonies 🤷🏾‍♀️ I loved it ♥

Ladies meet and make out on a subway, and one of them can't exit the train no matter how hard she tries. The supporting cast is also incredibly loveable. But, the chapters are loooong and the first half was dragged down a bit. It's basically a sapphic love story, time loop chaos, and missing persons mystery, so buckle up.

Event Planner meets British Prince. This book actually made me laugh out loud, and it was very sweet to watch them keep choosing each other. The streets say it's similar to Red White and Royal Blue, but it's has different twists and turns, also...so what if they share a premise? Do you know how many romances I've read about Dukes????

Imagine being a teen and having a love a first sight moment, then before you get up the nerve to speak, your life begins to come undone. That's what happens to the hero at the start of this story.
Flash forward to today and he's going back to the apt building he hasn't seen in years, and that girl he saw all those years ago is still there. And she's annoyed by his plans. They're both kinda stubborn but they work it out and get a happy ending❤

This romance low-key taught me more about US immigration policy, and I'll all the better for it. She is a 40 something year old woman living in Manila, he is her best friend's younger brother. She hasn't seen him in years, and he has become handsome af. She rents him a room in her house and when her family shows up and hassles her, she tells them all that they're engaged. Shennigans ensue, and they eat good food and have grown folks fun together ❤

She's the fun professor, and he's the stern professor. They're on a camping teambuilder trip, and get paired together, and they are sharing a cabin. There's lots of cute moments, but in this slow burn novella...stern professor discovers he had a dirty mouth and likes to whisper naughty nothings in her ear. It's been a long ass year, and I needed this inappropriate fun!!

This book was very charming! Ben has a kosher-style bakery, and Adam is in town coaching a little league hockey team. It's Hanukkah, and Ben invites Adam into the kitchen after hours to celebrate. This book was steamy, funny, and delved into faith practices and identity in an interesting way. And the hockey kids keep giving Adam dating advice which was hilarious and heartfelt. So glad I gave this one a try!

But West and Stone were both able to capture the thrill of getting some alone time with your crush. They both gave me "Do you like me? Check Yes or No" vibes. I didn't get the holiday spirit yet, but I do wanna text some guys....soooooooooooo??‍♀️

This historical romance is set in the tumultuous 60s. She follows Malcolm X's ideology, and he follows Dr. King's. They find refuge in each other as the world around them spins out of control. This book really expands what I thought the genre could be, and helps me see a path through this awful year we've had.

Y'all I've been stress eating a Honey Baked Ham since Election Night. Keep me lifted in prayer. While staying very calm and focused I read this book. It's about a woman who leaves her ex & goes to Ireland to find herself. #SavingsAccountGoals. While there she meets a handsome Literature professor who likes to tease her & share his booze. This was a 2020 fantasy, if only for the ability to travel. I give it a 🍺 Guinness and several whisky shots.

Enemies to Lovers isn't my favorite trope. I'm a Virgo and will forgive and not forget. But this heroine literally whoops the hero's tail in the first few chapters. She beat him so bad they had to jump 1 year in the future so he could be redeemed in peace. There's masquerade balls and a brothel that caters to women. And I need this energy in my life asap 🤷🏾‍♀️

This is peak British. Like...Hugh Grant mumbling banter type British. Very cute, very endearing. Luc's parents were rock stars who split. And he's trying to stay out of the tabloids. This plan fails miserably, so he does...as one does...and gets a fake boyfriend. Enter Oliver, who is very Mr. Darcy with a 6 pack. This book has some unchecked homophobia that left me pissed, but all in all it was fun and packed full of funny side characters.

This book is based on real events at a Mennonite colony in Bolivia. Women were raped, for years, and told that God or Satan was punishing them or that they were simply making it up. Like....WTF!!! This fiction book is about what comes next. The book is told in minutes of meetings the women have where they will decide their response after the truth came out. Listening to them grapple with their faith and their trauma will stick with me.

This was a good book, but maybe a bit too academic for everyday folks. Compassion in today's world is hard to come by and this book posits that there's steps from all the world religions to help you build that muscle. She's right, but this feels like a lifelong task and I could've used a workbook or something to go deeper into these issues.
