I loved how this started and the way it progressed. It really built up a lot of suspense throughout the book, but there was a lot that just seemed like it didn‘t flow together and it didn‘t work for the story. I just wanted more development of the story. Overall, it was creepy and interesting, but I didn‘t love the story.
The 80s setting feels like a cross between Stranger Things and Supernatural. The writing is fair, but the story drags. It‘s a book that is fine while you‘re reading, but hard to pick back up once you set it down and I considered bailing several times. The biggest issue for me is the relationship drama between 14 year old Lauren and her mother. I have no patience for teen angst. The book is atmospheric and a bit creepy, but I hoped for more.
Book 122📚 3.3⭐️
Honestly, until Act 4, I almost bailed numerous times. I couldn‘t get into it, there is a lot of jumping around with the characters.
But that last half, I could have done with that being the whole story 😂 It made the 400+ pages finally worth it LOL
These both came in at the same time (synchronicity) but I‘m having a hard time getting into The Ghost Tree and am debating jumping ship over to The Ghost Woods.
Any reason I shouldn‘t DNF?!☹️ I want to like it! But there‘s a whole lotta fluff I feel…
Stole my husband's mug while updating my reading journals.
The tagged book is really giving me trouble to get through, but I still wanna see if I'm right so I'm sticking with it, just super slow going
Amira chose my next book for me on our ferry ride yesterday ... she based her selection on the title alone lol.
I don‘t go in for gruesome, yet I stuck with The Ghost Tree by Christina Henry from start to finish. Maybe it‘s because the story moves, not sticking, not stuttering. Action and well developed characters. Equal parts horror, coming of age, and mystery, I greatly appreciated the book - a fast and fun read!
Loved this! Set in the 80s. Witches, small town, with some stranger thing vibes. So good!! And the last sentence left it for a possible sequel!
Thanks for the tag @PageShifter @robinb @Tera66
I always enjoy a good small town horror story. This is a great book to read around Halloween.

A book you‘d recommend whose title starts with the featured letter.
Reading during the big game! I‘m really only watching when the commercials are on 😂
After work pick me up 😌
It's the little things, isn't it?
All cozy in my new bed sheets and comforter with a book I'm so digging. I foresee a very late night... 🌙
I haven't quite let go on Spooktober yet, but I've taken it down a notch to a brisk autumn breeze 🍂😏
Finally day's end. I've got a great book and a snuggly kitty. What else do I need? Nothing.😌
Lauren glanced down at her feet as she pedaled her bike toward the woods. #firstlinefridays
Not the most exciting first line, but I'm about 150 pages in and loving it. I'd been meaning to check out this author for years, and I'm so glad I finally did!
Lol! I often think about the strangeness of this phrase, "losing one's virginity." I love seeing my own thoughts reflected back at me in a book.
This is a creepy little ghost story. I love this author. Unlike most of her previous books, this doesn't seem to be a fairy tale retelling. I really enjoyed it and found it hard to put down.
Book 17 and I was BLOWN AWAY! You want atmospheric creepy ghost story and whodunit look no further. I literally picked this up as a lark and couldn‘t put it down. Perfect for an October read!
I‘ve gotten out of the habit of posting on here, I mostly just lurk and like posts but I really love this photo so please enjoy 👻👻👻
Bk20 of August & Bk9 of #LittensDressedInBlood is done! It‘s also my last #BookspinBingo book for August & happens to be my #Bookspin book from March & gave me two #bingos on this months board. Not bad from one book. It was a good horror read, not as good as her Alice series or anywhere near her last book, Near The Bone, but still very creepy. She does love her monsters! #Pageathon #PennyPerPage #ChunksterChallenge
I loved this book. It def was a slow build but The last probably 100 pages made me not want to put the book down. A great ghost/horror story. I most def recommend it
I am a firm believer that drinking before noon on Christmas has the same kind of connotation as being in an airport: the rules of society just don‘t exist
On this cold wintery day in NE Ohio i am celebrating my 33rd year on earth by cozying up in front of the fire with a book and my sweet baby boys. ♥️♥️♥️ thank you my litsy family and friends for all the happy birthdays thus far. Love you all!!!
I finished this book on Thursday and haven‘t found time to finish my blog post until today... but I also haven‘t stopped thinking about it! A perfect creepy October read.

Starting this and hoping to read at least one ghost story this month for Halloween. I picked the best day. Ollie is snoring at my feet and it's cold and dreary outside 😍🍁😍🍁
Absolutely amazing and my first Christina Henry novel. Suspenseful, mysterious, and supernatural. Everything for a perfect October read!
I love small-town horror stories. A town where the residents don‘t remember the girls that go missing, and a young girl has terrifying visions of a monster in the woods. Excellent read for October. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a fun and interesting story, I loved the multiple characters that all.played a role in the overall story. The Audiobook was well done, really loved the narrator. Loved how the story had aspects of family history, witches and a legend that played into the overarching plot line. Well done.

This isn't really a retelling but it almost feels like it could be...there's even a princess...but you know, she dies (not really a spoiler)...that's pretty much what this author does turns the fairytales on their ass, so to speak. If you've read and liked any of Christina Henry's other books...then you probably will like this one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Something is not right in Smith Hollows... every year a girl disappears but suddenly that event is changing: more deaths. Lauren is in the middle of it and now her younger brother is having premonitions... a good spooky read to rev you up for fall! Full review at ScrappyMags.com
