Turning to my littens for some book recs today! Recently found out I'm having a baby boy and realized I don't know many mother/son stories... Is it just me, or does the father/son relationship take precedence in our media?? 🤔 Any suggestions out there for good mother/son books? Especially if the son is middle grade/teen! I know gender means very little, but I still feel this is a void in my reading life now. HELP!

February 23 #Ithadtobeyou Family Love. When I first read this book I was pregnant with my twins, I read to my first two daughters age 7 and 3 at the time and cried. Everything has been so crazy. But my mother died last week. Five months after I lost my baby Milo. In the middle of this damn pandemic. I‘m trying to make a thousand calls and get what I want out of her apartment, which is a hoarded mess and she hid things. I‘ve never felt more alone.

when the son ends up having his own child and singing the repeated song, “i‘ll love you forever. i‘ll like you for always. as long as i‘m living, my baby you‘ll be” it was super sweet and a good end to the story.
as I was reading this story I couldn‘t help but picture myself reading it to my own children one day. The mom really loves her son, and the son loves her back, and you can tell how special of a feeling it is by reading.
pickThis is an adorable story of a little boy growing up. I remember reading it as a kid, and my parents remember it too. It was published in 1986, and is still being read often which I think is cool. It has a soothing song in it that repeats throughout the story- the mom sings it to him. Eventually the story progresses long enough to where the roles switch: mom is old and needs taken care of, son is now capable adult thanks to mom.
Last night my Mum passed away. She was the one who gave me the gift of books and love of reading. She helped me get a library card when I was 4, read to me everyday, and read with me as I grew older. Even as I mourn her passing I know that I will always find her in the pages of a book. Words she loved, stories that captured her, and characters that became her friends. I love you Mum ❤️❤️❤️

I was trying to think about what books inspired me. And two kept coming to my mind and both are children‘s books. Both about giving of ourselves to those we love.
Reading from a parental standpoint versus watching my children as they hear from theirs. Same story, different perspectives. Inspire all of us to do a little more for someone. 💗
Most of us know we'll have to take care of our parents one day, but we never know how hard it will be until we're in it. My mom had me young, so my grandmother always took care of us both. Now she's really sick, and we're taking care of her. Recently, as we sat with her between us, each rubbing her back, my mom quoted this book in a whisper. We both tried to hide our tears from her. We never grasped the gravity of this childhood classic until now.

Love you Forever by Robert Munsch is a great book to read as a kid! I actually read this book EVERY night with my mom and it‘s my all time favorite childhood book. Every night before bed my mom and I would say to each other the “I‘ll love you forever” lines. This book is about the unconditional love between a boy and his mom no matter what.
