This MF about a part human and part animal young “groundling” faces being orphaned & gripping adventure. This young readers novel would be great for LC or IR. The UDL strategy (1.2) to provide an audio version as alternatives for students. The ESOL strategy (17) support with audio presentation & a visual book trailer. The resource provides a discussion guide for students to discuss main ideas & themes through meaningful discussion. #UCFLAE3414SP20

This RF book is relatable as young kids start a lemonade stand. A feud begins with the neighbors & the lemonade war begins. A great option for LC or IR. HappyMaddy I would have students create a poster & financial plan for their own lemonade stand. The UDL strategies I would use 5.2 as students can present their projects through different media‘s using different tools. The ESOL practices would be 4 as most students have the prior knowledge of a lemonade stand & 5 linking lessons to relevant vocabulary. 5y

This book has made an impact on me & as a Caldecott winner. This MF is something I would RA to my students of all ages. The UDL principle would be 2.1 & 3.3 to guide visualization & clarify vocabulary. As well as 5.2 by showing the movie. The ESOL strategies would be 13 to show the trailer before & movie afterwards. To ensure visualizations & higher order thinking. #UCFLAE3414SP20

This B was gifted to our family after we had the opportunity to see Hamilton the musical. This is a great way to integrate content like SS into reading through IR or SR. I would use UDL principles such as 7.2 for students to discover the life of of one of our founding fathers. The ESOL principles 4 by promoting prior knowledge & 11 placing language in meaningful context. #UCFLAE3414SP20

They can critically examine the themes & main ideas in the show & exemplifies how to express themselves through writing & performance. Students can watch videos, respond to short answer questions, & create their own sequence. 5y

This book was on my nightstand forever. I have a sister in middle school who likes SF. So she got me to read this & I am glad she did. I would use this for a LC. This story is suspenseful & reminds me of Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones. HappyMaddy I would use UDL strategies such as 2.5 as using technology & showing a book trailer. I will have students use higher order thinking & make predictions. For ESOL practices 36 & 17 to benefit all students in the understanding of the story & plot. As a HF book & my favorite genre. This Pulitzer Prize winner was hard to put down, especially during quarantine. This classic my parents used to read to me & I plan to read to my children. I read this book while in Botswana & the children were in awe. A RF story about a baby growing up. I would RA to my students for that warm & fuzzy feeling inside. I would incorporate the song & word searches to review the vocabulary as presented in the resource. #UCFLAE3414SP20

HappyMaddy The UDL strategy incorporated 2.1 & 5.1. The story can be presented in a song & students can complete a vocabulary word search before or after the story. The ESOL principles involved is 15 as the main idea is reread over & over again. Also, in the RA (14) using slow & precise speech. 5y
DrSpalding This is a true classic. We read this book around Mother‘s Day in the primary grades. This is exciting that you were able to read this during your study abroad. Make sure you add a bit more of a summary. Excellent alignment. 5y

I love this book so much I read it twice. We follows the character Melody in her mind as someone with CP. This RF is very eye opening for students with CP. I would incorporate this story as a RA, option for LC. As a New York Times Bestseller & one of my favorites. I would use such UDL strategies to emphasize inclusion, 7.2 to optimize relevancy to CP & ESE for all students. #UCFLAE3414SP20

DrSpalding Scholastic is a high-quality resource! This book is worth a repeated reading. I agree with reading it aloud and utilizing this book to practice predictions sequence and summarizing etc. It could also make an excellent literature circle option as you saw in class. 5y

This heartwarming RF/MF story written by a new author. This story is all about inclusion as a little boy struggles with his physically disability. I would use this book as a RT for characters to be the animals in the story. RT is a great tool for students to learn fluency according to the resource readingrockets.org. The UDL strategies include 5.1 & 2.5 as the story is portrayed as a play.

This book is a funny & engaging way for students to get into P! These poems use humor & a great example of poetry for all ages. I would incorporate Silversteins poems during a RA or AS. He is an interesting character. The UDL strategy 1.3 to incorporate pictures & visuals to represent poems. ESOL strategy 14 to RA clear & at a slow pace. Also 5.2 with graphic organizes from the resources provided.

DrSpalding Going straight to the poet is a wise move. His poetry anthologies belong in your elementary, middle or high school classroom library. These poems never get old and can be used to enhance fluency. 5y

Wow. This HF story about 3 sisters traveling to CA by themselves during the Black Panther Movement was insightful. A winner of many awards, most notably the Newberry Honor. I would encourage this book for a LC. Using rif.org I would incorporate the provided word searches & discussion extension activities. I would use the ESOL strategy 42 for support following the novel. #UCFLAE3414SP20

I would use a readwritethink.org resource to explore world cultures through folk tales. I would use partners to collaborate for ESOL (11). This is a NF engaging story detailing animals & various parts. I would RA, SR, or CR. Great for content integration of science! I would use to teach early learners about animals & parts of the body. worldwildlife.org/teaching-resources. I would present a video about animals from this resource activating prior knowledge & incorporating vocabulary.

This story of RF is heartwarming, Matt De La Peña takes us along with a boy & his nana. The illustrator, Christian Robinson lets us feel beauty in everything with the characters. This story was worthy of both the 2016 Newbery Medal & Caldecott Honor Book. I had the opportunity to really dig deep with this story preparing for my Teach Live read aloud focusing on the roles of author & illustrator. UDL (2.1, 8.1, 3.3) ESOL (1,6,11) #UCFLAE3414SP20
