1. I have some original Wizard of Oz books from the early 1900s. Earliest is 1903.
2. The Wizard of Oz stories are still filled with fantasy and perfect for children.

I didn‘t really like this book when I read it as a teenager, but I actually quite enjoyed it this time around. I still like the movie better, though.
“Are you a good witch or a bad witch?”
I‘m behind! I can just hear this line too! “I‘ll get you my pretty!”

What‘s up witches?! 🧙♀️🖤
(Pardon the language) But, yes, it doesn‘t get much better than that.
My very favorite. 🤣🌪
#JumpStart2021 #BookThatStartedYourReadingObsession I was absolutely obsessed with this series when I was 7yrs old! I read & reread every book my local library had. It seemed at times I was bringing them back just to reborrow them. My favourites were Ozma Of Oz & TikTok Of Oz. The world was so vivid in my mind, I could see the queen that had a different head for every day & the Wheelers just terrified me. Highly recommend for kids of all ages🙌
A book in my TBR pile....I have obviously seen the movie many times through my childhood. This was a fun thing I discovered today. Give it a try!
Team PreK is at it again. Doing Team costumes has become one of my favorite things.
Working on my #booklog #journal for 2021....my drawing needs to be perfect since I graduated in art....however I am out of practice. #litsylove
Woo hoo! I finished one of my #bookspin books for this month!
This is a reread for me. While it is a pick, I'm always surprised by how simple the writing seems and I wonder why this book became so very popular. That's not a criticism, but compared to some fantastical children's lit, this feels flat to me.
So I‘m in a play that a friend of mine wrote; it‘s called Oz.Org and will be part of the upcoming Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Oz.org is the a new retelling of The Wizard of Oz but with a digital age spin! This is my set-up: my laptop, a ring light, and some green paper! It looks simple, but creating theatre over Zoom is NOT easy. 🎭🌈🌺🐕🦺👠💻
I‘ll post a link later this week in case anyone wants to check it out!
The copy of this book I own is falling apart, sadly, so I had to finish reading it on ebook, but I got this far physically! #doublespin

For this card I thought of Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz who was so focused on finding an external solution to the problem that she never realized she had the means to solve it already.
Deck- Tarot Mucha (because the book and Mucha's art were both produced in the Art Nouveau period.)
Day 2 of #20Series20Days just part of my vintage Oz collection. 😊🌈 #Top20Series
In the author‘s note to my edition, Baum insists that his children‘s story is unlike those of Andersen and Grimm, free of “heartaches and nightmares.” This comment amused me as getting picked up by a cyclone wouldn‘t be full of “wonderment” for me. Also reminded me of the many Ozs I‘ve met in my life, a good reminder in itself of the value of independence and independent thinking.
“I‘ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too! 🧙♀️
I think she qualifies as a #nefarious character!! 🖤🖤
I love this one!! 🎥

When Dorothy‘s life is grey and gloomy her life goes colourful and bright. With the help of a fairy Queen and a yellow brick road.
#7Days7Books Day 6 (3 weeks after I posted day 5 🙄)
This will forever be the book that drove home the points that the movie is almost always different and that the book is almost always better.
(Very young me saw the movie first then read the book. The only thing the movie improved was the ruby slippers over silver.)
The book store I work at is opening up to shoppers today (with restrictions and precautions in place) - a lovely and talented friend made these masks for me which I will be wearing to help keep myself and others safe.
I‘ve been slowly buying the Books of Wonder hardcover editions of this series for my mother for a few years now.
And now she‘s giving me the paperback editions she collected. ❤️💚❤️💚
I did some #audio baking today!
When I went out to the store today, there was only two loaves of bread in the entire place. So instead of taking bread another person may have needed, I decided to make my own. I live in a small town, and as soon as shelves are stocked, people hoard the food. I hope my small gesture helped someone in need.
Giving this a try today! I want to be transported to a magical world right now, so I am trying this on #audiobook. So far, it‘s keeping my interest!
Good. I listened to the audiobook version of this which was narrated by Anne Hathaway and it was brought to life by this wonderful actress, as she did all the voices of the characters which made it all the more wonderful. Enjoyed seeing the differences between the much loved film and the book which as usual is many but it is always good to get back to the original material.

WTF? Guess I shouldn‘t be surprised by things anymore.
I was fortunate enough to see the Royal Winnipeg Ballet‘s INCREDIBLE rendition of Wizard of Oz. Wowsa! I don‘t know where to start! I think the flying monkeys were my fav. Write up and more awesome photos (including the ones here):

Saw this on my feeds today and thought it was a great story to share. They are building an actual yellow brick road in Humboldt Park where Frank Baum wrote The Wizard of Oz. #yellowbrickroad #wizardofoz #theresnoplacelikehome

It recently occurred to me that I had never read this book. (I know.) So, I rectified that! It was a fun listen, though I‘m a little surprised at the amount of violence and talk of killing others in a children‘s book. I‘m not sure how this would be received in a new book nowadays.
I haven‘t read the tagged book, but I was scared a little of this movie when I was a kid & still don‘t like it. My sister loves it. I wasn‘t a fan of the flying monkeys or the Wicked Witch. The Scarecrow is sweet and the only one that came to mind for this prompt. I do love Wicked though. #scarathlon #chillingphotochallenge @Clwojick #teamslaughter

Hubby and I were trying to explain this to our kids tonight. They seriously have no concept of it at all. I told them how my mom would mark on the calendar the day every year that The Wizard of Oz would come on and we'd mark off the days. Then we had to sit down at that time and watch it WITH commercials! They thought we were kidding at first. I was 11 yrs old before we got our first VCR 🤪
For the #Hr30challenge in the #24in48 #readathon My entry is a mix of MG books I adored as a child(The Oz series, Toms Midnight Garden, Enid Blyton,The Poky Little Puppy), new MG like The Tea Dragon Society & the Disney set that I collected from my local paper & in the lower left corner, Bookworm, a memoir about childhood reading that got me right in the feels. And my beautiful granddaughter in the middle, who‘s already a reader like her nanna!♥️
I‘ve now read 2 twists on this story (Wicked series and Dorothy Must Die series) so I think it might be time to read the original. Also book 3 in the Dorothy series isn‘t available at the moment so I have to wait for my hold.
It got dark and creepy fast on my run/ walk today, felt like I might be swept to Oz.
