Between Ned, Nat, Nan, Dan, Dick, Dolly, Demi, Daisy, it was was really a challenge to keep up with all the characters.

Fortunately, I have practice. On one side of my family we have a Jerrie, Mary, Terry, Sherrie, Shari, and Shelley.

AlaMich I work in a kindergarten classroom and that happens some years with the kids‘ names. And then they get all indignant if you accidentally call them by the wrong name! 😂 5mo

Day 10 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts, and we are still in the Alcott section! I don't know why I haven't read the sequels to Little Women nearly as often as the first book. I think maybe I didn't like them as well when I was young, and the feeling bled over into adulthood?? I just reread Little Women in May, but didn't follow up with these! I think I'm going to try to read them this summer, and see how they fit now that I'm older.

The book is full of moral lessons for the boys of Plumfield. The rough and prideful character of Dan was my particular favorite. So interesting to see Jo as the mothering figure to all these boys. I didn‘t love it like Little Women, but it was a sweet book.

“For he had learned how easy it is to lose the confidence of others, how very, very hard to win it back. And truth became to him a precious thing since he had suffered from neglecting it.”

A reread after I don‘t even know how many years. Little Women is better and I love it more, but this book is responsible for a lot of pre/early-teen fantasies of mine about living in a place like Plumfield. As an adult: the book is almost unbearably sweet in places and there‘s way more God stuff in it than I remembered. However, the warmth of this was exactly what I needed to read before Christmas in times like these.

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I didn't even know this was a thing 🤔 6y
twohectobooks @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego it‘s funny, I‘ve heard some people say that they actually like Little Men BETTER than Little Women, and others, like you, being totally unaware it exists. I wouldn‘t call it essential reading but it‘s a nice continuation of LW. 6y

saresmoore This cover is lovely, but is stressing me out! I think I‘m at the point of kid overload... 7y

DebinHawaii Great cover! 💙 7y
Daisey I went to find my copy and got distracted reading about the publisher. It‘s always annoyed me that there is no date printed in it. Apparently this is because it was a Chicago company that printed a lot of inexpensive unauthorized copies of children‘s books in the early to mid 1900s. 7y

Here's the matching Little Men to go with the Little Women I posted yesterday. Nicky had to show off his #male tail in the background. 😹 #maylovesclassics #litsyclassicshost

Jabberwocky I love little women but I‘ve never read little men because I‘m sort of afraid it will kill the magic of the story if it isn‘t as good as the first one. Is that crazy? Is little men good? 7y

Read Little Men just once when I was young that I barely remember it. Haven't read Jo's Boys but that Vintage cover is sweet 🧡

Bambolina_81 I love both of those covers! 7y
twohectobooks I read Little Men once as well and was kind of obsessed with the concept for a while. Haven‘t been able to remember if I read Jo‘s Boys. So I bought them both to read this year. 7y

batsy @twohectobooks That's a great idea 😆 I might have to do the same. It's been so long since I read Little Women, too, and I wonder how I'll feel about it now :) 7y
batsy @Leftcoastzen Yes! I remember someone posting the Airmont Jack London covers and they were pretty distinctive. 7y
twohectobooks I read Little Women a couple years ago and I think it holds up although there‘s some iffy stuff in it about religion and wifely duties. It was actually my first time reading the entire book after realizing the book I read a thousand times as a kid was an abridged version! 7y
batsy @twohectobooks Oh woe, the abridged versions! That was me smugly thinking I'd read a bunch of Dickens as a child when it was only the abridged versions in primary school 😳😂 7y
LeahBergen I have both of these but I‘ve never read them (despite having read Little Women numerous times). Hmm... maybe I should do a three-book binge? 😄 7y
batsy @LeahBergen Yes! Definitely a good plan 😊 7y
Centique Oh man this was my favourite. Jo runs an orphanage for boys and they have vege gardens and beehives and climb trees and her niece has a tiny working kitchen - can you tell I was obsessed with this book?!! 😂😂😂 7y
batsy @Centique That's awesome! The fact that you were obsessed with it makes me push it higher up the "revisit soon" list. In fact I should do a reread of LW and follow up with these! 7y
Centique @batsy tell me if you do and I‘ll reread it as well! It‘s been so many years ... 🙃🙂 7y
batsy @Centique I definitely will! And if I go silent about this for a long time, please feel free to prod me 😂😂 7y

Another delightful romp in the world of the Marches‘. While Alcott can get a bit preachy, there is a sweetness & innocence about these stories that feels fresh & loving for all their naïveté. Little Women will always be my favorite of her works but this is a delightful return to that world that I quite enjoy. It makes me wish I could‘ve gone to Plumfield school myself ?

mrsmarch I love Little Men because I love Father Bhaer. I don‘t mind when Alcott preaches at me, in fact it‘s quite soothing. But I have transcendentalist tendencies as well. 7y

Gotta give #👍🏻👍🏻 to Louise May Alcott this month after reading Little Women and the first sequel. Dare I say I almost enjoyed Little Men more? ☺️Only because Alcott's writing seemed tighter, the characters were even more enriching plus I loved the continuing saga of the March sisters and their own children.
P.S. Just heard that a new Little Women PBS miniseries as well as full length film is in the works.

I tend to buy mostly paperbacks or ebooks, so I don't have many books with interesting endpapers. These are a couple of books my grandma passed on to me. The top book is a copy of Little Men in which I cannot find a date, but I'm guessing 1930s or 1940s. The bottom one is a 1955 edition of Eight Cousins.
