I went to a vintage store today and saw some books I resisted buying! But the photos warm my heart also!
Bobbsey Twins, Hardy Boys & Cherry Ames Student Nurse are the older ones that are hard to see.

I was very happy to read a book that has been prominently displayed on a bookshelf in our living room for nearly 25 years! Sadly, it did not touch my heart as much as I had hoped. One of my favorite characters was this trained poodle, Sancho. He and Ben,a runaway from a circus are both lovable! Thank you as always @TheBookHippie for this delightful read along. #childrensclassicread2023

It was a good read , I can‘t say it‘s the best. I like Alcott‘s other works. It started off very nicely , but in the mid way I felt it dragged a bit. And I dint like the animal abuse part in children book, it‘s hard to read. But overall it‘s a good story I switched to audio and enjoyed it. I like happy endings 🥰 #childrenclassicread2023
Call me a sap for neatly spun happy endings, but I‘m marking this a pick. Ben and Sancho were thoroughly entertaining as well as the more spectacular(vs. darker)elements of the circus. Loved Bab showing up the boys with her archery skills and Betty stepping out of her shell to rescue Sancho. It definitely had some cringy moments, but that‘s a given for a 150-year-old classic. Alcott still rules in my book!

I'm not sure what's up with me these past few weeks; I'm super grumpy & now find myself annoyed with a children's book 😆 I'm blaming it on this awful heatwave. I enjoyed the scenes involving the excellent dog Sancho, but not much else, & I find myself dreading reading even a chapter each night. I think that defeats the purpose of kid's lit so I'm chalking it up to a case of the grumps & bailing. #ChildrensClassicRead2023 @TheBookHippie
I‘m finally getting to this one, on audio.
I‘m getting sads though, the casual mention to animal death & abuse. 😢
I have a print copy of this book in my Louisa May Alcott collection, but this time I chose to listen to the audio. This is a sweet story, but it‘s definitely not one of my favorites of hers. First of all, I think she wrote hardworking girls better than boys (which we see a bit of in Bab), and this one is just a bit too perfect in how it all works out.

This collection of Louisa May Alcott books was passed down to my daughter from her older cousin who received it from her older cousin. The set was a gift from their grandmother and has the signed bookplates to prove it. Sadly, my daughter never read them. I am glad they are here, so that I can join #childrensclassicread2023!
I‘m excited to be reading one of her lesser known novels with #childrensclassicread2023 this month! #AuthorWith3Names #MayMontage @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
It was alright. Certainly charming, but there was something missing in the story for me to really love it. The description made it seem like the story was about the two girls, Bab and Betty, but it was really about Ben. He came from a circus and lost his father. Mrs. Miss took him in and then Miss Celia. The children have all kinds of adventures, and everything ends happily.
That‘s a funny phrase: “Everything was put in apple-pie order…” 🍎🍏🥧
Inspired by @Clwojick 's bujo spreads where she uses actual book covers, I've printed off the ones for my #BookSpinBingo so I can make a bingo card out of them when I draw the numbers!!!
Day 11 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts brings us more Louisa May Alcott, two titles that I only read maybe once or twice, and so long ago that I have only the vaguest memories as to what they are about! Obviously due for rereads, as are so many of my books!!
Remember when books used to get special library bindings? It makes me a little sad that they don't do that any more. I have loads of library discards! These are from ⬇️
Morning errands are done and finally settling in for Dewey‘s Readathon. A later start than most- only 3.5 hours in but hoping to hit a few of these out of the park before midnight tomorrow! Hope everyone participating is relaxing and having fun! #24B4Monday #Deweyapril #dewey24hourreadathon #DeweysReadathon
#marchintoreading #day30 #startswithuvw @RealLifeReading Alas, I have no "V" titles.
My other Goodwill find. This one was printed in 1897. The original owner signed and dated it on May 13, 1899.
