#BeautyBreak @ImperfectCJ

This is the time of year when I say, I could never leave New England, while realizing that by January I will wonder why I live in a place that hurts my face and halfway through March I will seriously question my sanity. It‘s for this, this perfect fall.

JenlovesJT47 So gorgeous! 🧡🤎💛 3w

OriginalCyn620 It‘s so beautiful in NE during fall, and I want to live there too, but then I think about the winters, which would be okay if I didn‘t have to drive in all the snow. 🤣 3w
TheBookHippie Gorgeous. Wow. 3w
Currey @cuilin Wait, that looks like Keene? Location of Jumanji? 3w
AnnCrystal A picture perfect town, beautiful, just beautiful 🤩💝😍. 3w
Amiable Even in the winter it‘s still the best place to live! I just put on another layer of fleece while telling myself that. 😀 3w
Cuilin @Currey It is!! This was taken yesterday at the Pumpkin Festival. It‘s a lovely place to live!! 3w
Cuilin @Amiable agree, I just get a little 😩 by the end of winter and need a vacation. Lol 3w

ImperfectCJ I don't mind the New England winters (except in March when I'm like, where is spring already?)...at least there are sunny skies, unlike northeast Ohio. But the falls are seriously gorgeous. And the apples are so good! (We do not have good apples in southern California.) 3w
Cuilin @ImperfectCJ Yeah March is when I start questioning my life choices and I‘m California dreaming. 🧡 3w

Something invisible is preying on the townswomen of Dry Falls. Every victim refers to it as “he”. It is clear to Church rector Henry Lieber, that the Dry Falls invader is both one and many.

Karisa 😍 1mo
AmyG Beautiful! 1mo
Cuilin @Dilara I have a love/hate relationship with purple. My school uniform was purple!!! I had to wear it for 6 years. I like a tweedy heather purple. 1mo
dabbe 😍💚😍 1mo
kspenmoll Those flowers! We are getting our first freeze tonight, so not sure what will survive in my neighborhood. 1mo
Cuilin @kspenmoll I know. I said my farewells earlier. 😢 1mo
Amiable Love fall in New England 🥰 Tonight is a bit too nippy a bit too fast, though. 😳😀 1mo
AnnCrystal Like a botanical garden, and the bridge against the beautiful sky...I have a fancy for bridges 😍💝🤩. (edited) 1mo
Dilara @Cuilin Heather purple *is* nice! As it happens, my SO also had to wear a purple blazer and tie for 6 years. People from other schools called them purple poofters 🙄 1mo
Cuilin @Dilara oh for crying out loud!! We were called Ribena berries from the children‘s cordial. 1mo
Cuilin @AnnCrystal I love bridges too. 1mo
Cuilin @Amiable I‘m ready, almost 🤞 1mo
Dilara @Cuilin Well that's a much nicer taunt, at least! 1mo

Mehso-so

I wanted to like this story of a family and a treasured heirloom‘s place in the family‘s history that stretched across centuries, generations and geography. But the way the story was told was meandering and disjointed, with multiple POVs that sometimes went off tangent or seemed superfluous to the narrative arc.

Suet624 Did I mention already that she was here in Vermont at the Vermont studio Center and did a reading which I was unable to attend due to a dumb Board meeting. 🥴 1mo
Amiable @Suet624 No! That stinks. 🙁 Have you read her first book, “Black Cake”? I have not and am wondering if it‘s any good. 1mo
Suet624 No, I haven‘t read that. The VSC has artists and writers that come for residency programs and it‘s always fun to sit at the town café and try to figure out who will become famous for their work. Or who already is. 1mo
CBee @Amiable I loved Black Cake! 1mo
Amiable @CBee Good to know! 👍🏼 1mo

Here are some of my favorites for this time of year! They include a novel about vampires living in the NYC underground, a book about a writer‘s month-long stay in Salem over the Halloween season, a writer‘s search for evidence of ghosts, and a collection of Halloween-themed short stories!

Not my normal cup o‘ tea, but the plot ties to the American South and the enlightening look at the lesser known trades (pottery and whaling) of African slaves drew me onward. I mistakenly thought this a romance novel at the outset, but soon grasped the historical fiction supporting story arc underneath a sensitive narrative about generational trauma for black people coupled with personal tragedy and how that could shape lives.
