A Christmas Carol | Charles Dickens

Pickpick

I have to admit, I have never READ A Christmas Carol. Of course, I‘ve seen several movie adaptations (The Muppet version is the best version and nobody can tell me otherwise). Finally sitting down to read this story, I can see how it has become such a beloved classic. Also, I had no idea that it was such a short read!

A December to Remember | Jenny Bayliss

Mehso-so

I went back and forth on this one between “Pick” and “So-So”. After their father‘s death, 3 estranged half sisters must reunite and work together to bring back the towns Winter Solstice Celebration. I thought the middle of the book was a little slow, but it picked up at the end again. I also felt it was a little too long. Overall though, a cute story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Wonders | Elena Medel
post image

So, I tried to read The Wonders by Elena Mendel, but I wasn‘t able to get through it. This has nothing to do with the story itself. The book was translated from Spanish, and I think some elements of the story of might have been lost in the translation. I‘ve had this one in my To-Read pile for a while, so I was disappointed I didn‘t get through it. I might try another time- maybe I just wasn‘t in the right headspace for it at the moment.

Pickpick

We all have the “what if..” thoughts in life. Is the grass really greener on the other side? I enjoyed the perspective of looking at another “life” if a different choice was made. I honestly couldn‘t put this one down and read it within 2 days. This is definitely a new favorite!

DeeLew I keep seeing this one. I think I need to add it to my list! 4w

Dial A For Aunties | Jesse Sutanto

Pickpick

Really enjoyed this one! There were several times I laughed out loud. (Spoiler free) summary: Meddelin is a wedding photographer with her family‘s business. When she accidentally kills her blind date, her mother & aunts help her take care of the body - during a wedding they are working. The generational, cultural and language barriers of the characters create a hilarious story! If you need something lighthearted & fun, this is a great choice!

Switchboard Soldiers: A Novel | Jennifer Chiaverini
post image

Switchboard Soldiers follows the stories of 3 women serving in the US Army Signal Corps during WWI. The book is well researched- covering the trials and horrors of the war from the perspective of the women & their friends. The story rotates in 3 different perspectives, so it does get a little confusing at times with tracking all the characters. But, overall I enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical fiction!
