So, I tried to read The Wonders by Elena Mendel, but I wasn‘t able to get through it. This has nothing to do with the story itself. The book was translated from Spanish, and I think some elements of the story of might have been lost in the translation. I‘ve had this one in my To-Read pile for a while, so I was disappointed I didn‘t get through it. I might try another time- maybe I just wasn‘t in the right headspace for it at the moment.

Bailedbailed

Happy Publication Day to this translated novel! Set in Spain, this book unfolds in vignettes in the lives of Maria & Alicia. Spanning decades, the connections between the women aren‘t initially clear though they eventually do. The premise, paired with its timely publication month, appealed to me but I think contextual details were lost to me in the translation. I‘m not fluent in Spanish history so the significance didn‘t always come across.

Mehso-so

Publishes March 1, 2022

Translated from Spanish. Story of three women tied together by blood only. I found it just to be so-so. Maybe it lost something in the translation. It left things unfinished at the end. Maybe there's another book after this one🤷

TorieStorieS I completely agree- I actually decided to DNF at halfway through when I saw your review about the ending! Thanks for helping me move on in my TBR!! 3y
