For those participating, there are just 5 days left in the #BBRC reading challenge. The year has flown by. And if you (like me) need to update your challenge log on Story Graph where is the link. https://app.thestorygraph.com/reading_challenges/d3cd2784-48d6-47f4-9a45-1743546...

Yes I will be giving away a prize for anyone who finished, and maybe even for those who almost finish.

New challenge is done and I will post soon.

Here‘s my reading progress for #beatthebacklist. It looks like I‘m close to getting another bingo. I‘m probably not going to fill in this entire bingo board but I‘m going to have fun trying anyway. I discovered this reading challenge kind of late this year but I‘ve got 1 bingo so far.

Hello Everyone,

It's July 1!!!

That means the 2020/2021 edition of the #BBRC is now open for registrations. https://forms.gle/kqLNrhkLWmyxqq267

just a reminder this is a fun year long challenge to get reads to read books for all ages. This year we have a heavy focus on diversty. Follow the hash tags and see this years prompts.

Last year participants, you have until July 4 to get all your titles turned in.

Happy Reading

@SarahReadsTooMuch

BookwormAHN I'm back in and I love the butterfly on the Google doc 🦋 4y

LibrarianRyan @BookwormAHN Thanks. I thought it was lively. 4y
Lovesbooks87 1st time signing up. Going to give it a try! 4y
LibrarianRyan @Lovesbooks87 yeahhh. It‘s lots of fun. 4y
Lovesbooks87 @LibrarianRyan I have a question. Do you have to read the sections in order? Or is it okay to jump around and read a little bit from each section? With my library being only curbside pickup it is going to take a little while to get picture books but I have some other books that would fit some of the prompts in the YA section. 4y
LibrarianRyan @Lovesbooks87 totally jump around. Last years (two days ago) I was still finishing up easy readers. So go at your own pace. 4y
Chrissyreadit So I will try, second times the charm... 4y
Deblovestoread Some how I missed this a week ago but all signed up now. Love the prompts! 4y
LibrarianRyan @Kdgordon88 thanks. I‘m going to put up reminder sometime this weekend. 4y

The #AtoZ part of the challenge for picture books has not changed. They only thing we ask is to make as many as possible (of which 75% should be possible) DIVERSE. This is any and all forms of diversity. We didn't ask for 100% because we know some letters are already hard.

Just a reminder there are Goodreads Lists for letters Q, X, and Z that you can add on to for those amazing finds I missed.

#BBRC @SarahReadsTooMuch

cwarnier I loved this one last year, as I tried to make it all new to me books.
I love the idea of having diversity.
4y
rockpools ...and I‘ve reserved my first book already! This is going to be difficult though - my library‘s making a real effort to diversify their kids books. But the starting point was not-that-great... (edited) 4y

rockpools @LibrarianRyan I‘m not entirely sure I got that! 4y
LibrarianRyan @RachelO I wonder what happened to that reply. Only half of it is there. In my town it‘s difficult because the library is not open yet and there is no exchanging between libraries. It is only what is available locally. 4y
rockpools @LibrarianRyan Ah yes - same here! Some libraries are opening for ‘phone-&-collect‘ (curbside pickup) on 6th July, but not sure if our town will be one of them - we‘re v small. Reservations from other (local) libraries has been suspended & it looks like the cost per reservation is going up to Q9/item when it returns, which I understand but adds up v quickly! So I‘ll still be reading lots of ebooks. 4y
megnews Hey @LibrarianRyan do folks who couldn‘t finish last time join again? 😂 I‘m in school through December so not sure I‘ll make it this time either but I wanted to give it a try. Sure was fun last time! 4y
megnews @sblbooks #bbrc is starting up again if you‘re interested 4y

So you want a sneak peak at the 2020-2021 #BBRC challenge?

This year I am being joined by co-host @sarahreadstoomuch who help me put the fun back in my list and not make it so stoic.

For newbees, #BBRC is a reading challenge to get you reading across age groups. Each prompt is up to your interpretation but your hosts will give you all the help you may need.

Sign-ups will begin July 1 (you know after I had out the prizes for the last one).

TheKidUpstairs Sounds fun! 4y
Cosmos_Moon_River I‘m in, I‘ll watch for the sign up! Will be fun with my kiddos (hopefully somewhat for them, too 😬) 4y

I read 77 books in 2019 which is amazing for me, 25 books more than goal established in GR. This year my goals I think are realistic. All goals can be connected with different reading challenges. I will participate in #ReadwithMrBook and #ReadingwithMaja reading challenges in Litsy. I will keep this journal to document my readings in different challenges plus I have a reading planner. I love to decorate them with stickers.

mabell Thinking of you @Gissy ! I hope you and your family are safe. Did you lose power? Take care ❤️❤️❤️ 5y
Gissy @mabell The whole island is without power. They are operating with generators. Where I live at least we have electricity for the refrigerator and emergency lights. I'm taking another family member to a medical appointment because the one I used to take to his appointments, died. This family member has also serious health problems. It has been complicated. Many buildings and houses in the south area have suffered serious structural damages. 5y
Gissy @mabell We need to be prepared and be calm. 5y
mabell @Gissy Oh my goodness. I am so sorry! You have the best attitude for approaching these difficulties, but I am so sorry you have to go through all this 😔 I feel pretty helpless at a distance, but if there is anything I could do to help please let me know. ❤️ 5y

Have you signed up for the #BBRC Birth and Beyond Reading Challenge. We have 44 challengers so far, and if you are not on the list, but would like to participate there is still time.

The #BBRC is pretty easy. It's a list of 77 books to read (you choose the titles to match the prompts) that covers books for the youngest to the oldest of us all. The challenge goes for 1 year: July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020.

https://forms.gle/tjA9ov1vbbybo541A

LibrarianRyan If you would like to see the challenge prompts check out #BBRC tag as there are special graphic made for each section, or they are at the bottom of the sign up page.

And I should probably say that there will be prizes throughout the year. Including a chance to win to new release books on July 1.

Yay! Goodreads reading challenge completed! 😀😁😊💜📚

But with six months still left in the year, and with a portion of these being picture books for storytime prep, I'd definitely like to read another 50+ that are a healthy combo/balance of middle grade, YA, and literary adult fiction.

So let's get to it!

julesG Easy. My goal is 150 books and I'm at 138. 😁 6y
BeansPage @julesG I like the new profile pic 💗 looks like you're ready for summer 🌞⛱️🌊 6y
ReadingRover Mine is 300 and I‘m reading book 140 now. I‘ve read another five but haven‘t marked them because I want to write reviews. I‘m really hoping to hit 365 but I think it will be tough unless I get in a bunch of kids books really quickly. 😝 6y

Birdsong28 My goal is 45 currently on 39!!!!! 🎊🎉📚📖 6y
thewallflower0707 I had 100 like every year, but I shortened it down to 30 and am at 14 books read. 6y
julesG Thanks! Tipping my 👒 6y
biblio_ginger Mines 60 and I'm at 23, I need some reading days! 6y
Skeebies05 Its set at 60 and I‘m only at 23. Its those damn game of thrones books. Each one has more pages than the last! 😫 6y
marleed I‘m at 82 of 120 which is significantly more books than I‘ve ever read in a year but I thought I was at a place where I could meet this goal. 6y
BookishShelly 100 books, I've read 36 books, so 7 behind schedule. But I'm a weird one. I prefer being behind schedule. The whole reason I started the challenges was because I had my son and wasn't reading much. I wanted something to motivate me to read more (to not lose myself in motherhood but keep a hobby I love alive for myself) and knowing I'm behind in my goal reminds me to read more. I don't care if I don't complete it. (edited) 6y
wideeyedreader My goal is 55, I‘ve read 27 so far! I think that puts me about on schedule, actually, which is exciting! 6y
Leftcoastzen @Skeebies05 I feel your pain ! I just started reading GOT.And I pick out too many #chunksters 6y
Leftcoastzen 44/95 3 books ahead of schedule, failed at 100 goal last year so went down 5 on goal. 6y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Goodreads is set to 36 and I've read 22. Unofficially I'd like to hit 48, and i'm right on track. I just have to get caught up on logging them into Goodreads and reviewing them. 6y
JillPill My goal is 400 and I'm at 232 right now 6y
Princess-Kingofkings 22 of 36 ~ I set my goal low this year because of my work schedule but then I discovered audiobooks. 6y
shellleigh33 My goal is 75 and I am at 32 6y
blondie Mine is only 10. I've only read 8. :/ this has been a hectic year. 6y
Caffeinated_Reader My goal is 90 this year. Currently on book 54 🥳 6y
TheSpineView My goal is 75 and I am currently at 40. 6y
BooknerdsLife I‘ve always set my goal at 36, and I‘m at 30 right now 🤗 6y
LibrarianRyan 750. I‘m 188 behind schedule. I‘m at 133 (edited) 6y
Exbrarian I set my goal at 75. I've only read 17, but I have 8 in progress and 6 of those are more than half finished. I have not given up, but I also just don't care very much. 6y
Boooooks My goal is 40 and I‘m currently at 33 might have to set it a bit higher 😱😁 6y
Boooooks @Skeebies05 me too I thought it wouldn‘t be too bad because I took a week reading game of thrones but then about 5 weeks reading clash of kings even though the book isn‘t that much longer much longer 🤷🏻‍♀️ 6y
Tex2Flo Goal of 120. Currently at 50. Lots of airplane travel will help. 6y
sblbooks 100/85 6y
Kimberlone Mine is 70, and I am currently on track at 37 read! Hoping to make a lot of progress during the summer, as that is usually my most productive reading time during the year! 6y
CaroPi 60 and I have been in a reading slump the last 2 months so I am in 22 but still hope I manage 6y
LeeRHarry 40/100 😱 6y
mhillis 59/120 📚 6y
cuiuup 6/30 I definitely was in a reading slump after moving! Slowly regaining my stride! 6y
Skeebies05 @Boooooks Yes! Why did it also take me 5 weeks to read Clash of Kings??? Here‘s hoping Storm of Swords goes a bit faster. 6y
Traci1 90/200. 6y
Godpants 47/115 hope I can get back on track since I‘ve fallen behind. 6y
alisiakae @Skeebies05 It took me weeks to get through ACoK! 6y
alisiakae 46/75, but I‘m upping my goal since I will be reading a lot of picture books for @LibrarianRyan ‘s #BBRC. 6y
bewareofwords 63/75... I think I‘ll be upping my goal this year! 6y
kaysworld1 I set mine at 55 and it's currently one 36 books read. When I get close to it I'll up it by 5 and I'll keep doing that till the end of the year x 6y

An interesting six minute read about reading goals and challenges. “The only difference between a nonreader and a reader is that a reader has a plan for future reading and a nonreader does not.”

https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2019/06/do-people-finish-their-goo...

#readinggoals #readingchallenges

rretzler The part about planning and being a reader vs nonreader is interesting. I‘ve been a reader all my life - started young and there have been only a few times that I‘ve not had a book or a few that I‘m reading (college and babies spring to mind, but even then it was textbooks and picture books) and average 125-150 or more books per year. Last year was the first year that I ever planned my reading and I‘m 55. Planning, IMO, has its ups and downs 6y
CollapsingLibrary Very interesting article. Like @rretzler, I‘ve been a reader my whole life (I have a clear memory of 10 year old me wanting to read 100 books in a year). However, it hasn‘t been until this past year and a half that I‘ve really felt like a reader. I read multiple books at once, of multiple genres, and keep a journal. But my “planning” is simply read 1/7 of the books a day. Doesn‘t seem like that should make such a difference but I guess it could. 6y
LibrarianRyan This was interesting. It seemed focus on numbers and vaguely mentioned challenges. I do know somepeople who make a list of the books and then go about reading them. For me (750 goal, 188 behind), the number is nice, and I plan to do challenges, but let it be more random. Read the book and then find where it fits. 6y

Weaponxgirl I find the planning idea interesting, I love making lists of books I want to get to and of books that fit prompts for certain challenges but at the end of the day I‘m a mood reader. My planning is more inclined towards the having these lists available for when I‘m in the right mood to read them. I‘m in the category of enjoying them because I‘m never that bothered if I manage to finish the goal or not. Just happy I‘ve read great books 6y
SW-T @rretzler @hjreviews @LibrarianRyan @Weaponxgirl I‘ve always been a reader. My idea of a goal is “try to read today.” I do make note of things I‘d like to read someday and when I‘m in the mood, I read them. It‘s interesting to me how some people plan their reading lives, how they pick what to read, track things, etc. I sometimes wonder if setting goals sets people up for success or failure, but figure it depends on the person and the goal. 6y
rretzler @LibrarianRyan @hjreviews @Weaponxgirl @SW-T My planning consists of making a list of books that I want to read during the year - next book in a series, group reads I know I‘m participating in, new releases from my favorite authors and books I‘ve been meaning to read. I participate in challenges, but never plan for those. Like LibrarianRyan, I read what I want and then try to figure out where it fits and if it fits. I get to more of my TBR now! 6y
SW-T @rretzler 😊😊😊 6y
