Delirium | Lauren Oliver
Lauren Oliver's powerful New York Times bestselling novel Deliriumthe first in a dystopian trilogypresents a world as terrifying as George Orwell's 1984 and a romance as true as Romeo & Juliet. In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure. Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn't about to make the same mistakes. But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the Wilds who lives under the government's radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love?Delirium received starred reviews from Kirkus and School Library Journal, and was named a Best Book of the Year by USA Today, Kirkus, Amazon.com, YALSA, and the Chicago Public Library and was selected as one of NPR's Top 100 Best Ever Teen Novels. 3✨ I enjoyed this dystopian as much as any other I have read in the past. Control of this population was on love and selective breeding it appeared. It is a series and a few main characters are in danger still. One got away as they were closing in. I‘m going to read the novellas next so get a little more depth.

But ninety-five days before her treatment Lena falls for Alex a boy from the 'Wilds' who lives under the government's radar.

I just LOVE the classic forbidden love trope & this series instantly caught my attention. I can't wait to read this trilogy🍻📚 #bibliophile

I absolutely loved this first book of the series. The idea of love being a disease was interesting.

I liked this book, but it was a hard topic. My daughter told me to read it and I‘m glad I did. It was well written, but the premis had me angry at the state of the world mine included.

This was such an interesting idea, though it was predictable, a forbidden love always makes me look twice! I really related to the main character, and even went as far as to say I liked the book. Not my favourite and I won't continue with the rest of the series however it passed time, and did keep me occupied as well as interested for the time it took to read it. I discovered the short movie, and actually liked it, even though it's different.

The writing is good. The premise is interesting. I read a lot of YA. This one somehow felt *too* YA. But as it is YA, this is clearly a case of “it‘s the reader, not the book.”

wildwoodreads I read this years ago and it was a favorite of mine. I have wanted to reread it to see but I fear I would feel the same way. So I‘m just going to keep the good memories of it lol. 😂 6y

Thank G for audiobooks! Before I stared listening to audiobooks, I would maybe read 2-3 books/month if I wasn‘t in a slump. Now I listen to books all the time on my way to/from work which has allowed me to get so much more reading in! I just finished Delirium today and I really liked it, but it seems to have mixed reviews. I just started the second book in the series and hopefully it‘s as good as the first. The narrator for it was awesome!

I really liked this. It seems an odd premise, but I went with it, and quite enjoyed it. I liked Lena‘s best friend, Hana, and her young cousin(?), Grace, although a bit more interaction with Grace might have been nice. Maybe one of the upcoming books in the series will have more about her? I will definitely be continuing

I bought this at a library book sale in Traverse City, Michigan when we were on vacation. We always go to book sales and independent book stores when we travel... doesn't everyone??

Zelma Of course! I can‘t go anywhere without leaving with a book. I seem to sniff out library sales and free bookshelves everywhere I go! 6y

This was a dystopian love story. I enjoyed it although it would not be for everyone. Love is a disease and there is a cure. Do you want to be cured? ⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️Delirium has been on by bookshelf for easily five years. I was in the mood for cheesy & finally cracked it open, but was surprised it wasn't as cheesy as hoped or expected. It's an interesting concept, a person wiped of the capability to love and feel love. It doesn't only touch on teenage relationships, but the love between friendships, family, becoming a mother. Cliffhanger warning! #review #delirium #dystopian

I feel like either an Urban Fantasy, or a Paranormal Romance or something slightly cheesy and full of brooding heroes and action and overdramatic relationships....does Delirium meet these requirements??? Recs please!!!

Centique I haven‘t read Delirium but what about The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger? A brooding hero, a kickass heroine and lots of action but humour too. Starts with 7y
Centique Oh yeah and he‘s a werewolf... 7y
BookwormAHN Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld: gorgeous heroes, fantasy, lots of drama 😸 7y

Chellebearss Have you read Kelley Armstrong‘s otherworld series? Brooding werewolf, dramatic love story, action and lots more werewolves. First book is 7y
LazyLibrary @Centique I'm glad you mentioned this one. I own it, I've tried to read it a few times, but I have a hard time with the way it switches between her first name to using her last name, and back again, and sometimes in the same sentence. It drove me crazy but I WANT to read this book!!!! Does the author ever settle? 7y
LazyLibrary @Chellebearss No! I haven't but I've heard about it! So that's def an option for me!!! @BookwormAHN Ooohhhh I just looked it up and that sounds good too!!!! 7y
Centique @LazyLibrary hmmm. Not sure if she does! I found that her style grated with me for a couple of chapters and then I ”acclimatised” and began to enjoy it. It does have some rewards for perseverance if you can get past that! But yes, those things can break me away from a book too. 7y
Dragon It seems to me this was part of a trilogy I read a few years back. I liked the concept and enjoyed the book, but I‘m pretty easy to please with YA dystopian novels. 7y
MeganAnn 1/2 Delirium is on my TBR shelf, but it looks good! Some of my favorite urban fantasy series are the Hollows by Kim Harrison.. Book 1 is tagged 👇🏻 7y
MeganAnn 2/2: and the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.. Book 1 is tagged here. Both series are full of strong, kickass heroines, action and dramatic relationships just like you asked. (edited) 7y

With Delirium, Lauren Oliver has written a frightening tale of a world where the one thing that makes life worth living - love - is illegal. Readers will enjoy the development of Lena‘s character, watching her grow from an obedient member of an intolerant society to a young woman who goes after what she wants in life. Delirium is full of heart, passion, and terror, and will be cherished by anyone who loves a good dystopian novel or romance story.

#YAL #dystopia #2 It's not the best I've read, but also not the worst. It's reminiscent of Uglies and Unwind. The first half is unnecessarily long and detailed. I found myself doing a decent amount of skimming because it was obvious where the plot was going, but it was taking forever to get there. The 2nd half moved at a better pace. The premise of love as an epidemic needing cured is intriguing, but it's very predictable. #bookseries

Gostei bastante do livro.
A escrita é deliciosa!
