Sunday morning #buddyread time, plus a #libraryfind. I love this mug, “Read and grow”. It‘s just me, my porch, a soft breeze at 69 degrees, birds, & books. Totally content. #sundaybuddyread #adventuresinphilosophy #HighlandBookshopMysteries
Cute and easy mystery in a bookstore in the Scottish highlands— what‘s not to love? Will you be shocked and staying up until 2:00 AM to learn what happens next? No. But will you be engaged enough with a cozy mystery that spirits you away to a romanticized version of bookshops and Scotland? Yes. 7/10
Molly MacRae is a new author for me. Thank you so much, @robinb , for sending this book my way. I enjoyed both the characters and the Scottish bookshop setting. I found the motive for the murder to be a little thin, but otherwise this book is a pick. I‘ll definitely read others in this series.
I was home sick today and did nothing but read. I didn‘t finish anything but switched between Plaid and Plagiarism and The Editor. I‘m enjoying both.
Both of these things arrived today. No one is sick, but we went ahead and ordered the free COVID tests. The book was such a nice surprise! Thank you so much, @robinb ! I haven‘t read it yet. I‘m starting it right now. 😊
#LittensDressedInBlood #Day9 For #plaid what better book than this one? The first in a cozy crime series, it‘s set in a bookshop in Scotland & is brilliant! I really have to get the next three books, it‘s snarky, it‘s funny & it‘s full of mystery & murder. Loved it❤️
This book definitely qualifies for the moniker "cozy mystery". I never once felt that anything was high stakes. It was, in fact, less than compelling. Which is difficult to achieve when dealing with murder.
So here are some choices @Allylu @DarcysMom @Roary47 . I struggled with posting choices now or waiting until I opened my cozyswap box. Let me know what you think.
Brought these lovelies home from the library.
Reading by my sister‘s proper pool while she is away. I feel like I should be drinking tea and wearing a cardigan while I read this but it‘s a heat wave so no. It‘s iced coffee and my bathing suit
This has been on my TBR for a long while
I enjoyed this book, but it‘s definitely a “cozy mystery,” not a crime thriller. Many suspects stir—and confuse—the plot. Much clever dialogue ensues. The characters are fun though, and I‘ve already got the second book in the series, so another evening read with Janet, Christine, et al and a cup of tea is in my future.
Saturday morning sunrise from Michigan.
2:45 into my #24b4Monday
A bookshop mystery? Set in Scotland? I‘m so there. I started this book in the Fall though, and I haven‘t finished it yet. I‘m a parallel reader extraordinaire, so I got distracted by other books . . . I like it! I may have to reread some of it at this point though. It‘s the first book that introduced me to the #cozymystery genre. Speaking of genres, I‘ve discovered one called “rural romance.” Not in my wheelhouse, but not judging. 🧡📚
As we drive home today after a short road trip, I‘ve started listening to the tagged audiobook. Not sure if this will be my first book read in 2020, but it‘s the first started. Added bonus of travelling on a holiday, traffic has been great!👍🏽 🚗🚙🚕#currentview
Wow @Avanders thank you soo soooo much for this fantabulous #coffeebeanbookclub box- I love it all! It‘s coming at a perfect time as I have what will be, and has been up through planning- a very toxic family event on Saturday. All the hugs and good karma to you my friend!
#LetsTravelAugust This mystery is set in a bookshop in #Scotland.
@Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
I enjoyed this mystery set in a bookshop in Scotland, where the four women who just bought Yon Bonnie Books decide to gather evidence and try to help Constable Norman Hobbs solve the crime. 📚🔎📚
I really enjoyed this one! A classic cozy mystery!
Four women start new careers as booksellers & tea shop owners in a small town in Scotland. As they are learning the ropes from the previous owners (before they move to sunny Portugal), a murder occurs. The tale of why the woman was murdered, and whether she was even the intended victim, is woven throughout the story of Janet, Tallie, Christine, and Summer making a new life in their new home.
Had to put down Avalon High, I just can't handle those 2000's protags anymore. But i'm pumped for my next one! Let's cross our fingers!
I love when a student throws a fit about failing an essay, insisting they didn‘t plagiarize, but typing their first sentence into Google pulls up the entire paper.
I am WAY behind on reviews, so sorry for the inundation over the next few days ☺️. This was a cute cozy mystery and the beginning of a series. The main character got on my nerves some, but the remaining cast was enough for me to put book two on my TBR. This was book 6 for the #13books13weeks.
Finished this yesterday during my trip to the farmers market. Lots of yummy food!
(The coffee and kohlrabi were for my dad. ) Made the roast today with zucchini and rice. And the Sheeps milk Brie is delicious!
Just put in the last disc before heading into work. #chocolatetime
I love mine!
The Sassiest Librarian in the Bookstore
And I‘m almost finished listening to this book. Can‘t wait to find out who the killer is! I have a guess, but I could be wrong!
I've received my #coffeebeanbookclub book/Nb back, along with amazing goodies from @Mollyanna .. Thank you!!!! What a generous and exciting end to our first full rotation!! 💖💖💖💖
As you can see, buggy's also having a hard time keeping his paws off the goodies 😁😁
Now to go read the book and everyone's comments ☺️☺️
I swear, the person who had this book from the library before I did must be bald given the amount of hair that‘s been left in it! 😕
While this was an OK read, it was just too slow for me. I found myself not that interested in the characters or the outcome, and I was in no hurry to pick it back up after having put it down...which is usually my marker for a really good book. I‘m sure others will appreciate its quirkiness and Scottish locale, but it just wasn‘t my cup of tea.
Up next...I‘m seeing mixed reviews for this one. 😳😬
Although this book was not a favorite of mine I did like certain parts of it. Having it set in Scotland was neat and I loved the strong, yet flawed female characters that this book had. However, it suffered from the cardinal sin of a rushed ending... which is a huge pet peeve of mine!
The snow is coming down so I am going to hunker down on the couch with my book and read the day away!!! #winterwonderland
Got some time to finish this one! It was a pretty quick read (
#12DaysofChristmas #12PipersPiping It's a book character challenge so I'll go with the owners of Yon Bonnie Books-Janet, Christine, Tallie & Summer. This book is in my TBR stack but it's set in a Scottish village & I gotta think pipers are there somewhere.?Honorable mention to movie character Stuart Mackenzie of So I Married an Axe Murderer with a favorite bagpiper quote "Alright, we have a piper who's down!...It's all right, he's just pissed."?
Good morning lovely littens! I finished my book last night and loved this quote!
“Work and being around books are always a good antidote for what ails me”
Such true words in a fun little cozy. Remember with whatever is going on in your life today, you have a happy place with books AND with your fellow littens. ❤️
Hot cider with a little bourbon and stirred with a sugar daddy. Perfect while reading a cozy in bed. Yum.
A Scottish setting will always get my attention, however I wasn't as blown away by this story as I wanted to be. I'm hoping the series gets stronger. The mystery was good, but the primary characteristics of the quartet of women who are the crime-solvers kind of melded into one another; and there was a lot of info tossed around too. But there's plenty of potential though and so I'll pick up the next one and see what shenanigans come next.
My brain wants to be swept along on a fun whodunit and this one should fit the bill. Besides, I can fantasize about owning a book shop in Scotland as I read it! Win, win.
Love love love love my #letsgetcozy goodies! From the books to the cocoa to the beautiful plaid scarf to the awesomeness of gifting me Dean Winchester/Jensen Ackles in two forms, Laura @cobwebmoth you completely hit this one out of the park. Thank you so so much!
I so love my #LetsGetCozy gifts @mabell !! Thank you so much! I'm suuuuuper geeked to read the tagged book and love that you sent another one that you enjoy for me to try! Also, the cocoa smells amazing and the blanket-scarf is perfect! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💖☕️⛈ Thank you @cobwebmoth for hosting, too!! This really helped after a long day yesterday ...
A cute, charming cozy mystery.
This was my first #cozymystery and for the most part, my thought was: 'can someone arrest these women for obstruction of justice and impeding an investigation??' It got a little on my nerves, but I'm also a hardcore mystery and police procedural reader.
This was a cute read, with a fairly unexciting finish. The reveal was glossed over. If you are spending an entire book on a mystery, don't gloss over the ending.
⭐️⭐️
I just started this book this morning. I am in the mood for a story in a bookshop. I have always wanted to open my own independent book store
It's a blue book... 😂😂#currentlyreading #cozymystery
One last library book and then I might take a break to read some of the ones I actually own! First #cozy mystery as well! #currentlyreading
Between a pick and a so-so. A good start to a cozy series, it was a fun read. Some quibbles - I sometimes got main and secondary characters confused, and there seemed to be a strange use of the word "rats" that popped up more often the further into the book I got. But these are minor things, and I enjoyed the few hours I spent reading this last night. Wonder what book 2 will be like - out in January!
Just made my first-ever (giant!) batch of my Great-Aunt's Italian coleslaw and am ready to get started on this book. Litsy loves it, so I have high hopes! (Also, my house is full of boiled vinegar fumes, despite open windows - pee yew!)
Thanks for doing another giveaway @Booksandcooks ! I'm a print girl, though ebook and audio have their place in there too. #6666giveaway
I can't decide what book to read next
