Safest Lies | Megan Miranda
Fans of Jennifer Donnelly and E. Lockhart will be captivated by this YA psychological mystery about a girl who must face her darkest fears but can she outrun the past? Kelsey has lived most of her life in a shadow of fear, raised to see danger everywhere. Her mother hasn t set foot outside their front door in seventeen years, since she escaped from her kidnappers with nothing but her attacker s baby growing inside her Kelsey. Kelsey knows she s supposed to keep a low profile and stay off the grid for their protection, but that plan is shattered when her dramatic car accident and rescue by volunteer firefighter and classmate Ryan Baker sparks media coverage. A few days later, she arrives home to find her mother missing. Now, to have a chance at a future, Kelsey will have to face her darkest fears. Because someone is coming for her. And the truth about the past may end up being the most dangerous thing of all. Finished the next book in my #TBRWrappedUp challenge.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. It felt thrilling and fun. Also, my first Megan Miranda read, so I'm excited to read more from her.

This YA thriller was a solid read. Not my favorite ever, but still engaging. There were some eerie moments but I somehow just never quite connected with the MC. However, finishing this one yesterday took me over the finish line for my #OutstandingOctober goal of 2700 pages!! It's the first time I have hit a goal in a while so I was pretty stoked. Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 !!!

TheAromaofBooks @slategreyskies - It's so ridiculous! The craziest part is, looking at my board, I could read two more books and STILL not get a bingo! 😆 However, I am NOT going that route - the one I'm reading now should FINALLY get me that sweet feeling of actually getting somewhere haha 3y

This is my third Megan Miranda book and so far my favorite. I loved the mystery/thriller aspect of the book. It is a bit on the YA side, but I was okay with that. It did leave me with a few questions, but I like books that make you question what you just read, in a good way. I highly recommend!!

Once again, I was not disappointed by this author. 17 y/o Kelsey comes home to find her mother not there - except her mom is an agoraphobic and wouldn‘t have left on her own. But once Kelsey tries to find out what happened, everything she knew about her mom and their life starts to unravel.

Cortg I'm working in the children's area tonight. I have a stack of books to send to other branches and the first book that actually has 45 pages is National Geographic Kids Everything Birds of Prey. I‘m trying to figure out whether this book is officially out of the #whodunitbymail rotation. Was it returned to @Jess7 or is it still in the wild?

If you haven‘t responded to the message @dariazeoli there‘s still time! She‘s put a lot of effort into trying to get us back on track. If you‘re out, that‘s okay. Just let us know. I‘ve enjoyed exploring #mysteries that I might not read otherwise, and I miss it.

Susanita @Emiller It looks like maybe @TheWordJar had it last? Since she‘s left the group too, maybe she didn‘t know to send it to you. 6y
dariazeoli @kspenmoll Please hold them. Which books? I don‘t see them in the spreadsheet. 6y
dariazeoli To all: I‘m emailing people individually to send books home for our inactive or dropped-out members. Spreadsheet is being updated as these emails go out. (edited) 6y

dariazeoli @Kangaj1 just sent an update email to the group. More than half the books are unaccounted for 😕 6y
Kangaj1 @dariazeoli got it! 6y
Jess7 When I exited WHODUNITBYMAIL in December 2017 I told Tiffany she could keep the book and journal in rotation or keep herself since I was exiting. I‘ve seen posts since she read it so I believe it stayed in rotation. No one has returned it to me. (edited) 6y
Susanita So it sounds like this book is still rattling around somewhere out there after all. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 6y
TheWordJar @dariazeoli @Susanita @Emiller Just wanted to jump in! Looking at a copy of the last spreadsheet I had, I think the last two books I had were Rumor of Bones and Let Us Prey. I sent those two along to @Read4life when I withdrew from the group. I don‘t have any other books, and my book still has not made it home (not worried...it‘ll get here when it gets here!). 6y
Emiller @TheWordJar Thank you! It will appear at some point I‘m sure. 6y
Susanita @TheWordJar I had your book in September and sent it to @AndreaReads but I don‘t know what happened after that. 6y
Read4life @TheWordJar I received both of those and sent Rumor of Bones to @Marmie7 . I‘ve been holding on to Let Us Prey until we decided how we are going to proceed. Looks like I‘ll be sending it back to it‘s owner this week. 6y
AndreaReads I am so sorry, friends—I did not mean to completely disappear! @TheWordJar I have your book, I wanted to finish reading it—I will send it back to you ASAP! Thank you to everyone else who tried to get everything put back together, I really enjoyed our (albeit short) time together! 6y

Another W O W!

This book started off rather slowly compared to her other books so I got nervous it wouldn‘t be as thrilling. Boy, was I wrong! Once it picked up it escalated quickly. (Continued in comments since I wrote too much...)

MishAnn I mean yes, hanging in a car upside down over nothingness while your crush saves you is terrifying, but then more terrifying things happen. You sneak out to see your crush get his hero award. You get home and realize everything at the house is wrong. Now your crush is trapped in the house with you and then add in two more friends while you‘re trapped, getting shot at, trying to escape... 6y
MishAnn Then you think everything is ok minus your mom missing but then you‘re trapped in that house again with your mom and three bad guys. I thought the bad would never end. 6y
MishAnn I loved Ryan and Kelsey‘s relationship though. Hearing him say he liked her all through their summer job. When they were in his room expressing what they were actually thinking. Even when she found out he ran her off the road (accidentally but still). I just liked the way their relationship bloomed. They already went through so many hard things that everything else should be like cake!

You need to read this book!

This is one of the best thrillers I've read in a while. We see Kelsey go through many emotions throughout the book. Its described in a way that I had to put my book down to catch my breath as each lie is uncovered. My jaw dropped with the plot twist. I'd definitely recommend this book, especially since I couldn't stop reading once I started. It has a little bit of everything, a budding romance, suspense, betrayal, and such a good plot twist.

Overall a good, very quick read. This is a psychological thriller told by a 17 year old girl. I did not know at first that this is a YA standalone book until I finished it. It wasn't the best book out there but it kept me engaged and wanting to know the true story. First read by this author, who has also written adult fiction books I want to check out. I really enjoyed this one.

This book hooked me from the first page and I didn't want to put it down. Kelsey's Mom was kidnapped 17 years ago and escaped. When Kelsey's Mom escaped she was pregnant with her. 17 years later Kelsey Mom doesn't leave the house at all. When she comes home one night and her mom isn't there she knows something is wrong. Where did her mom go? Did the people that took her 17 years ago come back to get her? This is my first book in the #sixby6/6!

Book received by @stacybmartin #HalloweenGoesPostal. This is a about Kelsey, 17, raised in a world of fears, limited social contact with survivor knowledge due to her mother traumatized past experience. There are some unrealistic, discrepancies areas:Kelsey social skills, some characters relations & predictable situations. It has an open ending. But I really enjoyed the reading I felt some anxiety as expected in psychological thrillers 👍🤗3⭐️
