#whereareyouMonday

This Monday I‘m in 1980s New York City with Lieutenant Sigrid Harald of the NYPD. I‘ve only been to NYC once in the late ‘90s, but I know from books and other media that it was a little different then from now…grittier for sure. The reader gets a glimpse of this in this mystery series, but just a glimpse.

Had to use a different tagged title since “The Right Jack” isn‘t in the database.

BarbaraBB I‘m with you in NYC, unfortunately a few years later so we won‘t be able to meet up 😀 5d
Ruthiella @BarbaraBB Too bad! Maybe next time . 😂 5d

I guess Trixie Belden is getting republished?!? I wonder if the books are getting updated like the Nancy Drew books were.

TheAromaofBooks That's so crazy! I hope they don't get updated. Part of their charm is their era. 2w

Not really a Christmas read but I needed something different. Pictured: Olives reaction to her first Christmas tree, it wasn't even fully up and she was ready to destroy it (it's been up for 1 week and it's been knocked over 10 times so....)

Pickpick

I really enjoyed November's Trixie mystery. I know I've said it before, but I love how Trixie isn't perfect. In this story, she's biased against Dan from the start just because of how he looks/what he wears, and that comes back to bite her. Were some things in this book a little too tidy/easy? Absolutely, but that's okay because it's fiction 😂

Did you all get to this one? Any thoughts?

One other thing, I wondered how crazy the mountain lion ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) aspect was, so I looked it up - there were still reports of mountain lions in upstate New York through the mid-1900s, although they were considered pretty rare after around 1930, as prior to that there was a bounty on them, so they were hunted excessively. They weren't put on NY's endangered species/protected list until 1973, over ten years after this book was published. So, implausible but not impossible 😂 3w
TheAromaofBooks OH Also we are going to skip December and come back in January with The Happy Valley Mystery!! The overall consensus seemed to be everyone is pretty busy this month so the fewer “assignments“ the better 😆 I'm really looking forward to continuing this series with you all, though, as I am thoroughly enjoying this jaunt down memory lane!! 3w

lauraisntwilder Of course mountain lions were rare, all the Mr. Maypennys of the world were too ready to shoot them! 3w
curiouserandcurioser @TheAromaofBooks im loving reading these again! Trixie isnt perfect, but has a good heart:) i cant wait to get back to reading these in January! 3w
Read4life I‘m still in the VI and my books are home. I had no idea when we quickly traveled to get to my FIL in October that we‘d still be here. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @lauraisntwilder - It's always tough to know how to deal with dangerous animals in populated areas. But at this time the government had decided eliminating them was the way to go 😬 3w
TheAromaofBooks @curiouserandcurioser - She really does, and I love how she is able to admit she's wrong and tries to do better next time. 3w
TheAromaofBooks @Read4life - Family gets crazy sometimes!!! Is your FIL doing okay? 3w
BookmarkTavern That‘s one of my favorite parts of these books! When Trixie (and the others) make mistakes or judge people too harshly, they apologize and change their behavior. 💖 3w
Read4life He‘s still in the hospital but they‘re talking of sending him home for hospice care. 3w

When a body is found buried in the grounds of Kit's old home, not only do the police suspect him but the new owners want to sue to get the purchase price back.

I thought this was the penultimate entry in the series but despite being promised for the summer of 2020, the final (?) volume has been promised for 2023, 2024, and the latest forecast is Summer 2025.

Yay! We're back in Sleepyside, getting lost in the woods repeatedly! But now there's a mountain lion! I love this cover so much, and loved the idea of Trixie judging someone for wearing a black leather jacket. 😂 My biggest critique was that, in my edition, Di Lynch didn't show up until page 80 and she wasn't part of any of the action of the story. Not sure how another BWG is going to fit, if we barely had room for Di! #bobwhitebuddies

#ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024

Finished Sunday for #BobWhiteBuddies Trixie # 8 revolves around Trixie coming up with an idea to have an ice carnival to help raise money to rebuild her Mexican penpals‘ school library (a concept any reader can get behind). It also introduces a new character & addition to the club, Dan, who has a rocky start with the group & especially Trixie. Small spoiler… I always felt sorry for Dan because he rarely got to go ⬇️

DebinHawaii … anywhere with the Bob Whites—he was always working. But anyway, this one is a fine addition to the series, no big thrills but no major notes. I did worry about Mr. Maypenny‘s poor head. As in our Nancy Drew reread, I‘m realizing head injuries & concussions weren‘t a big thing back in the day! 🤕🙁 3w
DieAReader 🤕😳It‘s quite astonishing to realize how much hings have changed regarding head injuries & concussions!! 3w

Andrew65 Excellent 👏👏👏 3w
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I always felt the same way about Dan! It was like they introduced him to the series but then they didn't know what to do with him 😂 But it never seemed fair that everyone else went on fun trips and stuff and he was always stuck working! 3w
