👍👍👍
My first Adrienne Young and it won't be the last. I love how fast-paced this book was!
Not sure about reading the 2nd book in this series, though. Should I? 🤷

It had a really strong start and then it fizzled a bit. The ending was a bit too neat but overall it was an enjoyable read

Not much of a young adult reader but this was a great story to lead into the 2nd book! Loved the Viking feel and woman empowerment portions of this book! #skyinthedeep #adrienneyoung
I had really high hopes for this one, but it did not meet expectations. It felt very rushed, trope-y, and predictable. The premise was really good and I feel like this could have been fantastic, but the execution was lacking. It ended very tidy and again, predictable with a dash of Stockholm syndrom. 2.5/5
After finishing Neon Gods, this was my next pull from my TBR jar! 😁
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ◼️ so I like totally read that in one sitting!!!!Ooops!!! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2357075028 #LitsyLove #AdrienneYoung
I really enjoyed the world building in this book, the plot was a good mix of suspense, action, romance and a little mystery. The MC Eelyn was brave, fierce and slightly emotional. I liked the romance between her and Fiske but its not one of my favourites because half of the book he hated her. The ending was good and I liked how the pacing was fairly fast for most of the book. It had a good happily every after ending and I enjoyed this standalone.
Couldn‘t ask for a better reading nightlight.
So I found out my copy of Sky In the Deep was bound in its cover upside down, when closed and the cover is right-side up all of the pages inside are upside down. I made a post about it on Instagram and Adrienne Young responded! It made my day!
PS: Anyone ever bought or borrowed a book that had binding errors?
A surprisingly good book, intriguing. Read for #Bookoplathon and as a prompt for #PopSugarReadingChallenge2021 4/5
This is my second time reading this fantastic book. I had to reread it before reading the second book. Truly magnificent.
I‘m giving this another chance for a challenge on Facebook and find I‘m enjoying it more the second time! #wintersolstice #dashingdecember #littenlisten #readyourway @Andrew65 @TheSpineView @aperfectmjk

I started reading the book Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young. I like it so far though it made me realize I don't think I've read many viking related books. In a #LitsyLove side note I sent a letter to @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks and @Soubhiville
Eelyn is so brilliantly written - strong willed but full of emotions that compasses every woman. Even though if felt very Viking-ish the relationships were relatable
I started reading this book and got about 4 chapters in and then didn't pick it up again for a couple of days. Once I did pick it up again, I couldn't put it down. The story was so gripping and filled with real emotions. The characters were likeable and believable. I want to read her other books now.
"I found my braid with my hand & wound it around my knuckles, watching them. As if it hadn't all happened. The raid. The blood feud that burned in their hearts for me & my people. There was no room for it in that moment. There was only a beginning and it's light hid everything else. It was so beautiful that it hurt, touching every wound uncovered inside me."
This was a good listen and a fun book! A brother and sister tale with a Romeo-Juliet style love story, axe-bearing maidens and sword-wielding men in dueling clans. Need I say more? #yafantasy
Been listening to this #audiobook today as I rest. Serious throat issues! Sick as a dog, but this has been good company. #recommended
I mostly read this because it is the prequel to The Girl the Sea Gave Back, which I‘ve just won in a giveaway. I probably wouldn‘t have gotten through it if it weren‘t for the audiobook: the writing is slow, overly descriptive, tending towards navel gazing. I did like the story, the moral of it, and the characters. Unfortunately the characters, despite pretty good progression, were not well fleshed-out. It wasn‘t bad, but I‘m glad to be moving on.
#Octoberreads My monthly color readings are still going but I‘m totally having a hard time now! I have so many all or mostly black covers! So this months colors are black and orange (thankfully black is perfect for Halloween). #blackandorangereading 2020 resolution will be to buy more colorful books!
Technically a new day, here is day 3 of the #7days7covers challenge, I got challenged by @Endowarrior21
If you have yet to be tagged, and see this.. consider yourself TAGGED
And with that, I have completed my #LitsyAtoZ challenges for both Authors and Titles! Woohoo!
This was my Y author.
A fast paced story of a warrior girl taken prisoner by an enemy clan. I appreciated the undercurrent of finding the sameness in “the other”.
Wow!! I really didn‘t expect to love this one with #AllOfMyHeart but I most certainly do!! This Norse-inspired YA novel has it all- battle frenzy, family love, faceless enemies and a dash of romance to boot!! I‘m not sure how I missed this last year but I am now super excited for more from Young!! #AyUpAugust
Went to the Barnes and Noble book haul and got these books for $11. These were the two books I purposefully went looking for and I was a good girl and didn't get any others, although I did look around.
Despite being an easy read, it took me a few days longer than usual to get through this book, mostly because I found the characters and dialogue to be bland. While I appreciated the writing, the setting, the message, and the struggle, the characters just felt extremely bland. I like a little spice added to character interactions. All they seemed to talk about was the situation they were in. A lot of showing not telling when it came to relations.
Still thinking about Sorcery of Thorns, but I‘m also very excited to start Sky in the Deep. The blurb tells me this book is “part Wonder Woman, part Vikings” and I can‘t think of anything more badass than that.
I really enjoyed this story. As a one shot fantasy book it was perfect. It had the feel of Vikings and for those gamers Out there I kept seeing the main character as Alloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. If you like fantasy but get overwhelmed by some of the deep worlds this is a good one. No supernatural or magic in this but the story and characters are so good you won‘t miss that.
Spent my morning reading before work 🖤 Just started Sky in the Deep and I‘m hooked. Got some female warrior/ Viking vibes.
#JulyWrapUp wasn‘t as slow as it looks, since I also read 50+ picture books in July! I had so much fun with the start of the #BBRC challenge hosted by @LibrarianRyan! I plan on moving on to middle grade in August and will be posting my stack soon!
Unfortunately no 5 ⭐️ adult reads this month, but it was a solid 3.5-4 stars for all of these, which is still pretty good.
This one gets mixed reviews, but I really loved it! I think it‘s the first time I‘ve read historical fiction based on the Vikings. I appreciate that Eelyn - a warrior in the Aska tribe - is strong and sensitive, as are some other characters, male and female. These two things don‘t have to be mutually exclusive! And...Vikings!! I definitely need to read more Viking era books. Also love that this is a stand-alone novel!

Not sure why I don‘t go to the trampoline park more often in the summer! Kid spends an hour or two jumping and exercising, I spend an hour or two reading. Win-win! 📚 🤸🏽♂️
Yep, I could stay here the rest of the night if given the chance!
The soreness is starting to set in from my 42 mile ride (42!! Still can‘t believe it), so I may take an epsom salt bath tonight. My nephew is here, which means Maya has an in-house playmate for the next few days, and I may be able to get more reading time in!
Break time! I‘ll post my 2nd update soon. In the meantime I‘m taking a standing snack and tea break, I don‘t want to be stationary for too long and have my muscles start to stiffen. #litsywalkathon #bikeathon #booksandtea #bfcr2 #bookfitnesschallenge #teamfitlit
I only had two books on my list for this week.
So this started with a bit of a pet-peeve where basically the entire storyline is summed up in the blurb. That being said, the first half contained a lot more soul-destroying sorrow and a lot less fighting than I expected. The story only really kicked in with the second half. Overall I liked this book well enough to keep going.I enjoyed the way the gods were used and Viking vibes are always great!
Trying to be positive about cancelled trains... at least it means more reading time right? 🤷♀
I am participating in #makemereadit again this year!
This stack contains the books I am considering squeezing in around my other July book plans (#crazyrichasiansbuddyread, mother/daughter book club, and Icelandic literature in preparation of our trip). They all fulfill a #pop19 or #booked2019 prompt. 😃
So, what should I read first? Vote for your top pick, and I‘ll read the ones with the highest votes!
Voting open until this Thursday.
Started this last night - only a few chapters in but interesting so far
This was a great historical fiction novel! I will say that this war that was going on was a little childish but it worked. The only thing I really kind of didn‘t like was the final battle that just kind of ended which stopped the flow. Other than that this was a great title and I can‘t wait for another one. Sit seems this might be a series. But it works as a stand alone!
