What is a paper magician to do when faced with those who deal in death? This was a bit gorier than I expected and I wish we knew more about the villains but as a short fantasy, it hit the spot with just enough heart and adventure.

The title describes the subject of the book. Took a while to get into the story but I liked it as it gained speed and intrigue

There wasn‘t enough character development or background information to really like this book. I wanted too. I was almost there. Just not enough development for me. There were parts that were enjoyable and in different circumstances I would have loved it.

This is such an enchanting story! Ceony desperately wants to be a Smelter but is instead compelled to be a Folder. What power is there in paper? Much more than she bargains for. Any further descriptions would spoil this amazing magic tale. I‘m glad this is a series. I want more of this world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fun beach read. Recommended to my friend who loves the teacher-student romance trope and she read it and 70% of the sequel in a day lol

Cute story. Ceony becomes an apprentice to become a paper magician. Can she fight through his heart? The heart holds the truth in this story. Origami comes to life!

Let‘s get straight to the HEART of the matter shall we…Ceony Tuille, headstrong, intelligent, and completely fearless … is a folder (side eye). Not exactly what her heart desires, but this mandate takes her to places completely unexpected!

I listened to the audiobook. This had such promise but it was so disappointing. The premise is great, I love fantasy novels where magic is woven through average, every day life. But the execution left much to be desired. I think the world-building was pretty good, not great, but good. But the characters are shallow and two-dimensional, their back stories rushed, and their interactions felt totally false. Also, I didn't love the narrator.

My #weekendreads include continuing The Night Circus 🎪 and I started listening to The Paper Magician yesterday. Since I'm going back to school tomorrow I'll be in my car more and able to listen to the audiobook. Two books about magic - I hope that magic carries over into my daily life!

Ceony just graduated from magic school and is disappointed that she has been placed as an apprentice to a paper magician when her heart was set on controlling steel. Once you bond with your material there's no switching. But then her new teacher is attacked by a dark magic Excisioner and she must use what little she has learned to save him.
I thought this was a good story, if a little predictable. But I enjoyed the way magic worked in this world.

I had planned to post this during the weekend, but better late than never. These two awesome books came to me this weekend as a gift during a random act of kindness swap like event. Super excited to add these to my shelf‘s.

This book started pretty good but got boring around the middle, it managed to pull it back at the end but was touch and go there 3.5/5 Read as part of the #popsugarreadingchallenge2021

The first in the trilogy, Ceony Twill arrived at Magivuan Emery Thane‘s House to learn the magic of paper. However, Thane‘s ex- wife, Lira, steals his heart and Twill chases to get it back. This was between a pick and so-so; I enjoyed the story and the memories but could not stomach the messiness of traveling inside the heart.

#TBRPile 📚 I have four books in this series but not in any particular rush to get to them. I‘ve read one book by Holmberg and didn‘t really rate it... However, all authors get a second chance!

I bought this ebook a while back because I liked the idea that someone can be bonded and do magic with just one man-made material (paper, glass, plastic). But I am a bit disappointed: the writing is really good but I wanted more info about the way magic worked and was taught and learned. Also, the book started strong but then we got transported to some sort of side stories that were not very interesting to me. Overall not bad but barely a pick.

I have a lot of magical books on my shelves but thought of this series first as I thought I was cute & fun when I read it several years ago. I liked the fanciful paper folding magic world especially Fennel the dog. I still haven‘t read The Plastic Magician yet, just the first three books.

This was just fun more than anything. I honestly picked it because A) It popped up as I was browsing Kindle Unlimited offerings, and B) the cover was intriguing. Yeah, some of the character development was simple, and the plot was a bit predictable. But I loved the world—the whole concept of “only man made materials can be enchanted” is a take I‘ve never seen before. I‘ll probably continue the series—it‘s light and fun magic.

I‘m loving this series so far! I‘m looking forward to and dreading the end of it.

Overall I enjoyed this, it was the right amount of light and serious. The only issue I had is that it lacked depth/character development. Some of the plot seemed rushed and left you wondering why the characters cared for each other. I would have liked more info on how the specialties are chosen, but maybe that's in the second book?

I‘m so disappointed in this book! It had so much potential but...
-Not enough world building to help you believe the impossible
-Some things are urgent for no reason while urgent things are ignored for pointless musings
-Immature, undeveloped characters

About 60% through but losing steam. The characters and story don‘t feel genuine. The story moved along to quickly, he‘s too perfect and she‘s too cynical. I didn‘t get a chance to understand and care about them before the conflict began...

I found this a bit slow at the start and didn‘t know if I was going to finish it. But, I‘m glad I did! Wow, what an adventure. I really enjoyed the storyline and I loved following Ceony on her adventure. I‘m going to read the other books in the series and hope they‘re just as enthralling

I had no idea what to expect from this book. I never would have predicted the events of this story. I found it difficult to walk away from the book. Now I will read the second book in this series.

After a hectic house buying week & heat wave, I finally woke up to perfect backyard reading weather.

I see this book has pretty mixed reviews. I'm not far in, but so far, I find the characters interesting and the rules of magic unique. I anticipate it being a Pick, but we'll see, I've been wrong before lol

Tackling The Paper Magician from my TBR while I try to patiently wait to find out if the offer my husband and I just made on a house will be accepted 😧 !!

An interesting premise, but I found the story uneven and a bit boring at times. So I rate it as a mediocre start to a concept that has promise. I may pick up book 2 just to see if the plot is stronger (& given that this was a debut novel, often book 2 is better), but at this point, it‘s not high on my TBR.

Short and enjoyable. More insta-love than I like, and not a lot in character development, but a nice, quick read

I started this book over a year ago, read 30 pages, and put it down. I picked it back up because I wanted something short, and I can‘t believe I didn‘t love it immediately the first time. Just goes to show how much of a mood reader I am!

A quick read with an unusual premise

No reason not to buy this and devour it! It‘s on sale!

Finished up this audio this morning while trying to convince this dog that a bit of exercise won‘t kill her. She‘s still not convinced, given how icy everything still is but we agreed if she humoured me this morning, I wouldn‘t make her go for a walk in the wind storm this evening.

The book was fine - good enough to finish but not good enough to read the rest of the series.

Kid home sick, so had time to start on something that‘s been on my Kindle for a while 🤒📚❤️
