I‘ve really enjoyed spending time with the characters of Cannery Row and that was kept up with the sequel, although I was sad to see a few characters had moved or on died by the time this book is set post WWII.

A really engaging story and like with the first book feels more an experience than a story.

Aww, I loved this book just as much as Cannery Row! 🥰 There‘s just something about these characters, and I could read many more stories about them and never get sick of it. I love how they all look out for each other and try to help each other, even if it doesn‘t always work out the way they want it to. So many hilarious parts and I had a hard time putting this down last night so I could sleep. I‘d highly recommend anything by John Steinbeck. 5⭐️

And of course I had to reread Sweet Thursday right away. Love it to pieces!

After reading the masterpiece that is East of Eden recently, followed by the amazing Cannery Row, I just simply HAVE to read everything by John Steinbeck I can get my hands on. I was so excited to learn there‘s a sequel to Cannery Row (I cannot recommend that book enough!) & it finally came in from the library today. Between this & the new Taylor Jenkins Reid book (Malibu Rising), the rest of my reading time this week looks very bright indeed! 🤓

After the War, Mack and his gang are pulling out all the stops to "help" their friend Doc out of his despondency. This time the entire town gets involved. This is the sequel to Cannery Row and it's just as funny and entertaining.

This #BookSpinBonanza pick certainly stirred my passion for Steinbeck! It‘s the sweet sequel to Cannery Row, later adapted into a Rodgers & Hammerstein musical. (Too bad it flopped🤭) Since Sweet Thursday followed his steamy saga East of Eden, Steinbeck says he relaxed and just had fun writing this one—and it shows! I adored revisiting the Cannery clan and also Steinbeck‘s snarky sections to goad his critics. 😉🙌🏻

My new read for work. Every lunch break I try to read from one specific book and try not to read outside of work.

We still get our hilarious cast of characters from Cannery Row and a dose of good old human hopes and failures, but add in a love story for Doc! Really, it‘s an endearing, funny little book!

1. I‘m not currently doing any buddy or group reads. I‘m working on completing the #readharder challenge and I‘m not reading frequently enough to add in another title that doesn‘t fit the challenge.
2. I‘ve never had the desire to change my name, although as a kid it pissed me off that I could never find any personalized items with the name Charlene. 😠
