pickIf I had been told what this book was about I wouldn‘t have read it. The life in which adolescents only priority in life is to be married off, doesn‘t interest me enough to read a story about it more than once. But this novel is more than a story, and Austen‘s style of writing is so captivating that I enjoyed the whole of it. Such an intelligent author too, who didn‘t spend unnecessary pages on endless and fatiguing description.
so-soAn important read but other Fitzgerald books are better. “Babylon revisited” explores similar criticisms of the American Dream, over indulgence, wealth and poverty while being more interesting and attention grabbing than the Great Gatsby.

so-soThis ending made me mad because for the duration of the book I was wishing Edna would actually do something to improve her life rather than mope in the despondency felt from her disloyalty to both her husband and children, but when she finally did something empowering and moved away, she succumbed to a feeling of loss that really was only temporary considering how capricious she is. I loved the writing style but this isn‘t a must read classic.
pickWowwwwwowowoww there is no way Tara is real. Her degree of strength is inconceivable and I‘m so envious of her drive to do well in school without basically any education or money. I wish my life was this interesting but without the gaslighting and trauma…
