I don‘t know how it is that I‘ve never read this before, but it was so good! Not scary, but definitely creepy.

1. Chili and cornbread, pasta with pumpkin sauce, and turkey meatloaf with cider gravy.
2. Excellent book for spooky autumn reading.

Book 15🎧 3.5⭐️
This recording was a play performance and it was great! Captures you right away but I wish it was longer and more to the reveal etc.
Two young boys, Jim and Will, start to figure out that not everything is as it seems at the carnival, and the merry go round is proof of just that. Along with Will's father, they must battling for le the evil that Mr. Dark brings, by proving that friendship and love can defeat anything. Bradbury's rich writing still rings true and in my opinion, has only gotten better with each reread.
So glad I took a break from contemporary reads to pick up this classic! When a spooky carnival comes to town, two 13-year-old friends must fight to save themselves in a true tale of good vs. evil. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I can‘t believe how long it took me to get round to reading this! This is something I see myself rereading a lot. The prose was gorgeous and I loved how it was both menacing and sort of comforting, and also how clear the influence on Stephen King was.

I‘m really looking forward to reading this Halloween pick that‘s been in my list for literal years this year! A perfect one for #wicked today for #autumnplease

One of the team reads for #hhc #scarathlon
I‘d never read it before and I did enjoy it. The story was intriguing. Gave me Needful Things by Stephen King vibes - kinda assume he got some of the inspiration from this story. Just a like not a love for me. Spooky elements for sure
@dabbe
So this time around, after reading the book I listened to the dramatized version.
The full cast old-time radio program was fun. Includes sound effects. It‘s a short story that came to life with the multiple characters and a fun addition to this wonderful story.
Of course the book is best but this was FUN!
Combining fantasy and horror (and not sci-fi this time), Bradbury writes his poetic prose as only he can while examining the constantly conflicting dualities of good and nature in each of us. Also cleverly woven into the evil carnival that Mr. Dark brings to Green Town are the “fountain of youth“ and “aging overnight“ motifs that the two boys, Will and Jim wrestle with. Expertly and horrifically written. I need to read more Bradbury.

I didn't screenshot everything because it would have taken quite a few pages; this should give you an idea.
This was probably the best game to occupy my mind yesterday while I nervously watched the AZ Diamondbacks crush the LA Dodgers in the first playoff game! I had a (wait for it) ⚾️! Total points: 11,480!!! 🤩

What song matches your current book?! 🎹 🎤 🎶
I just finished SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, and I think an excellent song to go with it would be “Carnival“ by Natalie Merchant. 🧡🎃🧡

Hey, Hexes~
A friendly reminder regarding the Word Search. Pretty much every online reader will search the words for you and let you know how many times that word appears throughout the entire book. And you get 10 pts. for EVERY SINGLE TIME that word appears. Having just finished the tagged book (one of our buddy reads), I earned a total of 5,250 pts.! The word “witch“ alone came up 1,160 times! 🤩

Well, being the mood reader that I am, I did not do what I originally had intended. However, I did finish 4 books (all on my #BookSpinBingo board), and got further along in WAR AND PEACE, so I'm happy overall. Thanks, @Andrew65 for being our wonderful host. 🧡🎃🧡
Another classic from my childhood. The magical carousel has stuck with me all these years. There were some misogynistic parts. The story focused on two boys, Will and Jim, and Will's father. They must band together to fight the evil carnival owner and save the town. The writing is poetic and very descriptive. It is easy to see Bradbury's influence on Stephen King.
My TBR for #scarathlon - I had Poe on my list last year but since it‘s a collection I didn‘t make it all the way through. Hoping I can pick up where I left off and finish it this time
#HHC @dabbe
I just finished The Power by Naomi Alderman and now going to start this book by Bradbury. His works have been on my want to reads list for a while, as I've only read Fahrenheit 451.
“The sum? As they come and go, and I mostly sit very still and tight, yes, I‘m all right.” ❤️
Because who doesn‘t need to dive into a spooky tale after all the love, light and goodwill of Christmas? 😆
“A carnival rolls in sometime after midnight on a chill Midwestern October eve, ushering in Halloween a week before its time. A calliope's shrill siren song beckons to all with a seductive promise of dreams and youth regained. In this season of dying, Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show has come to Green Town, Illinois, to destroy every life touched by its strange and sinister mystery.”

This book is perfect for October reading. One of my favorites by Bradbury.

I enjoyed Something Wicked This Way Comes. It's a classic. Some kids face an evil carnival. I loved A Sound of Thunder. If you ever get to time travel do not step on any butterflies.

I just managed to finish my #Roll100 book for April, now I'm already ordering the one for May - incredible! 😄 Number 85 is Bradburys “Something Wicked This Way Comes“. An October book in May - what a match! 😄
For #TurnUpTheBooks I got Blink-182s “I Really Wish I Hated You“. Just a normal, boring breakup song 🙄 First I thought I wouldn't find a fitting book, but when I scrolled through my planned reading list ⬇
What a delight of an American Classic novel❤️ Ray Bradbury‘s novels have always changed my outlook on reading and how words can transform the way things can be written and seen in life. This was no exception! A story of friendship, and conquering your deepest fears. #bookclubreads #bookclub #bookclubpick
How lucky we are to travel and live many lives through reading!❤️📖
Anyone else feel this way about 0300?? Love how Bradbury writes❤️😩
Alrighty Littens! This is my pick for our book club. I love Bradbury but I‘m a little nervous about this one since it‘s dubbed as a bit of horror-esque. Hoping I picked an ok one! Onward!
Now this I thought was a fun read. 2nd completed book of the day. Plus, it gives me Halloween points for #TeamHendrix.

Will & Jim, kids on the verge of adulthood see an old train roll into town after midnight as an eerie calliope plays. The carnival is in town!
Dark & Mr Cooger. Illustrated man. The carousel & what it does! CREEP EEE!
I loved the dad, Charles. He was the dad you don‘t hear about these days. The hero who‘s a janitor at the library. The library scene! So good!
What a delightfully creepy story! Much much better than Dandelion Wine!!

DNFing this one. I‘m about halfway through and I‘m just not enjoying it enough to finish.
Who doesn‘t like that quote during this spooky month? I decided to host my own monthlong October readathon as a way for participants from either #Scarathlon2021 team to gain extra points (all other littens welcome as well!) For those who don‘t bother with readathons during #Scarathlon here‘s an easy one to gain you 10 points for every hour read - the only rule: there has to be the element of Wickedness involved ⬇️
