This was one of my favorite series as a child. I was definitely a horse girl. Reread for the children‘s classic group.

It is a beautiful story, though some part felt sad. I am not a horse person, but I love to read about these beautiful creatures. I especially like the vivid geographical descriptions in the book and illustrations. Thank you for selecting this book for #childrensclassicread2024 @thebookhippie 😍 😻 😻

Like many of the #ChildrensClassicRead2024 group, I wasn‘t a horse girlie & beyond Black Beauty, I didn‘t read horsey books as a child. My best friend in junior high had a horse & I did get to ride him. Still, I enjoyed this sweet & mostly fun story (OK, the Pony Penning Day made me sad). My friend did collect 🐎 figures & although the covers show Phantom as the same color as Misty the collector figures show her as black & white.🤔
I never went through a horse crazy phase, so I didn‘t read these any of these Marguerite Henry books as a kid. They make for an enjoyable and relaxing listen now.

I did my #HyggeHour a bit earlier from 7 PM -8 PM tonight as I seemed to have caught a doozy of a cold this weekend & I‘m about to go to sleep because tomorrow is a workday full of Zoom meetings. 🤧😬
Soup for dinner, hot tea (not shown) & blankets. Read a little of my #TravelingStars book & then switched to the tagged book for #ChildrensClassicRead2024 on my Kindle.

Spent a lovely Saturday morning doing some laundry and baking while listening to this #childrensclassic2024 pick. It's a simple story but the writing has depth and nuance. Even the horses (Phantom and Misty) have excellent character development. I was never a horsey girl but I might have been had I read this when I was young. 🤎🐎 @TheBookHippie
One of my favorite books & authors from childhood. I always wanted to go to the pony round up. Now I‘m afraid to go because I might buy a pony! Now, as an adult I do question whether we really should be buying wild horses instead of letting them just roam…
I will always have a special place in my heart for Misty and Stormy, Misty‘s foal 🐴 🩷🐴
*This book is $50 at the used bookstore in town*
#ChildrensClassicRead2024
These were very popular books when I was a bookseller and I can see why. I‘m so happy I read this one and even told my daughter she should read it. Another great pick by @TheBookHippie for #childrensclassicread2024 🤓

I‘m sad I didn‘t know about these as a child because I would have adored them! Somehow there‘s a nostalgia in this kind of reading even when it‘s a book I‘m not technically revisiting, and depicting a lifestyle I totally didn‘t lead. #childrensclassicread2024 @TheBookHippie
I‘m starting February off reading these five.

I reread this childhood favorite as I found it in my closet while cleaning. Based on the real real pony penning that takes place, it's a story of hope and believing from 2 children who do what adults couldn't. After my reread, I'm going to pass this old battered copy to my niece.

As a young girl, there was nothing I wanted more than my own Phantom. As an old woman, there is nothing I want more than to have more Phantoms in their natural habitats.
1. Misty of chincoteague is the only one ive reread more than twice.
2. Not usually

Day 28 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts - arguably Henry's most famous book, this story takes place on Chincoteague & Assateague, two islands off the coast of the Delmarva peninsula. It follows the tradition of Pony Penning Day, when wild ponies from Assateague are herded across the channel between the two islands and some of the foals are sold off, both to raise money for the island and keep the population of the horses under ⬇️
Day 26 of a book from my shelves with random thoughts - this one doesn't seem to be in the database. Basically it's short letters from some of Henry's readers asking questions about her books, mostly about which parts are true and which parts are fiction. It's an interesting book with a mixture of photographs and illustrations by Wesley Dennis. It was published in 1969, though, so it only talks about her books published before then.

Ok so this story is cute but I have some issues with it. First being WILD ANIMALS SHOULD REMAIN WILD! Nobody should be allowed to buy a wild animal, let alone children. Ok I get the Pony Penning was for population control, but come on now. As innocent as this story was intended to be, I personally found it to give off the wrong message to younger readers.
Maybe I'm being too harsh on this book I don't know, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.
My husband and I closed on a house on Friday. My husband's grandfather built the place, so we're happy to keep it in the family. Hank ( seen reading with my mother-in-law) approves.
1. I loved Misty!
2. Cake all the way 🎂🍰🍩
3. Running, yoga, and tacos!! 🌮
4. Ooo... that‘s hard because I would have 3-4 places but maybe wherever they filmed Broadchurch. Such pretty scenery!
5. Late to the game but on it!

On a mini vacation in Chincoteague and after visiting my first love, Island Creamery for ice cream, we hit up two bookstores. I‘ve been here a handful of times and have never read Misty yet, so no better time than the present. 🐴
Listening in the car via #Libro.fm , read by “Richard Gilmore” himself. 🐴💕📱
It didn‘t take me long to finish this book. It was cute, but not a favorite. I did enjoy the writing style and the characters. #marchinbooks#goodreadschallenge#childrensbooks
Starting my morning with a fresh cup of coffee and my next book! #marchinbooks#mistyofchincoteague
1. It's gotta be the tagged book. My sisters and I all read the edition my mom had as a girl.
2. I have one cat, the mighty Watson
3. I am torn between wolf and otter and seal nothing can make me choose among them
4. I would be a pampered house at.
#manicmonday @JoScho
1. Misty of Chincoteague. I loved it growing up when I was briefly obsessed with horses.
2. My Winnie the Pooh bear.
3. I have to go with the old aluminium foil TV dinners that had to be cooked in the oven. Salisbury steak was my favourite.
4. Why both of course.
1. Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry
2. I collected Breyer horses. Apparently they're worth something now.
3. Chimichangas! They're fried burritos. What's not to love? 🌯
4. Don't make me choose!

The #oldestbooks on my bookshelves are my Marguerite Henry books. My uncle gave them to me when I was little. Like most little girls, I had a pony phase, though I've donated most of my horse books since then. These I've kept, though. They have sentimental value AND they were always my favorites. #febinbooks18 @bookisglee
This was my favourite book in elementary school. I'm pretty sure I borrowed it from the library continuously. Haven't read it since I was 10 or 11.
These books helped me love reading as a kid! I was obsessed! Saw this at Costco today, was so tempted to buy them. #mistyofchincoteague #kidsbooks #childrensbooks #margueritehenry
"Facts are fine, fer as they go," he said, "but they're like water bugs skittering atop the water. Legends, now--they go deep and bring up the heart of the story."

Reading plans for the day: a #childrensclassic & something from the #TBR. The last time I read Misty of Chincoteague was here at this house #downbythebay about 23 years ago, which makes it the perfect first read of the day. 🐴📖🤓 #24in48 #readathon #bookandtea
I had to share the ponies of Assateague! So amazing. We got pretty close.
I'm posting this entire section for #family in #jubilantjuly because my Uncle gave them to me when I was a little girl. I grew up on Marguerite Henry's horse stories, and just looking at these makes me nostalgic.
Yesterday's #bookmail!
I haven't been able to locate my copy of Misty of Chincoteague for a while now (I think it's in a box I've yet to open but can't be certain), so when I found a great deal on #ThriftBooks, I couldn't pass it up. Looking forward to getting into this one very soon.

It says in the beginning of this book that all incidents in the story are real; the round up of the ponies, the race and sale of the wild horses of Assateague. A cute story of Paul and Maureen and their adventures one year of rounding up the Phantom pony and her colt.
Up next for #litsypartyofone
I'm going to Virginia in a couple weeks for a sisters getaway and we are going to Chincoteague Island. One of my sisters (there's 5 of us) is a horse fanatic so this is basically for her. But we were sent this book to read beforehand so I better get started.
Not an exact quote: What can we do with $102? Buy an electric toaster for grandma and grandpa and go to college. 😁
Revisiting a favorite from childhood. I don't remember much about it, but I remember liking it.
I'm visiting my sister in Virginia this summer and we are going to Chincoteague Island/Museum. So she sent me this book today and said to read it before I come. 💟
I loved this book it gave me pictures in my head and I've always been around horses so I loved this book!!!10/10
My family has always had horses, so I was obsessed with this book when I was a kid. #AnimalLove #17BookLove
