pickThis book, set in rural Appalachia, creates a strong sense of place and community, telling the rich story through the perspectives of various characters. I really enjoyed this - though I think she could have done more to establish WHY different parts of the book were told from different perspectives.

pickI really enjoyed this. It‘s a story about the struggles of people in 1970‘s Appalachia and is told from the viewpoint of multiple characters. I wish the author had elaborated on the stories of some of the characters though. She left a lot unfinished in my opinion.

pick3.5⭐️. I always love tales about Appalachia & this debut novel by Leah Weiss continued that love. Vivid characters & a harsh & wild storyline combine to tell the story of a young girl trapped in her circumstances but seeking something more. There are a lot of minor storylines running through this novel that could be expanded into additional books. Interested to read more from this author.
pick🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Excellent audiobook! Excellent debut! About 8-10 perspectives talking about hardscrabble southern lives. I loved it. This is narrated by two narrators actually - Kate Forbes and Tom Stechschulte.
If you need an amazing audiobook I strongly recommend this one! I am more than half way done and it‘s one of those where you want to drive around in circles to keep listening to it! What a great debut!

Finished this book last night and I already want to read it again. Luckily the kindle version was on sale for $1.99 since I borrowed this from my local library. Hard to believe this is her first novel. I can't wait to read more from her. Highly recommend, especially if you're a fan of southern fiction.

pickI picked this book up on a whim at a Literature Lovers Night Out a couple weeks ago. I was blown away with how much I loved these characters (even the bad ones) and their stories. I gave it to a friend of mine who hadn't been reading much this year and she read it in one day! My daughter has the book now so no photo for this post.

The story follows an Appalachian girl named Sadie Blue who's newly married and is expecting. She has an intimidating + abusive husband who rules over her (+ others). Sadie finds her way to become what she's needed to be... STRONG, then discovers how to fight her way out of her life situation. I loved Sadie's character.. intellect, integrity + a generous heart!! ❤️

pickThis was such a good book! I found myself unable to put it down until I reached the end. Set in the Appalachian mountains and told through alternating viewpoints this is a story about a young girl who made a devastatingly bad decision when she got married but is also about the isolated community of Baines Creek. This book was so well written with each voice distinct and adding another layer to the sadness and hope you feel for Sadie Blue.

pickI absolutely loved this book. It's gritty and complex and engaging. Sadie Blue is the main character but we meet multiple people from the town of Baines Creek in Appalachia. Not all of the characters are good but I so enjoyed reading their stories and how they came to be the people they are.

pickThis was my first Appalachia novel and I have to say at the beginning I wasn't enjoying it and almost gave up. I'm glad I didn't! What a book! Once you get your head around how it's written it's an awesome book on a area and people I didn't know anything about. I'd recommend this book.
