What She Knew (Bound for Schools & Libraries) | Gilly Macmillan
"Rachel Jenner is walking in a Bristol park with her eight-year-old son Ben when he asks if he can run ahead. It's an ordinary request on an ordinary Sunday afternoon, and Rachel has no reason to worry--until Ben vanishes. Police are called, search parties go out, and Rachel, already insecure after her recent divorce, feels herself coming undone. As hours and then days pass without a sign of Ben, everyone who knew him is called into question, from Rachel's newly married ex-husband to her mother-of-the-year sister"--

Well written, but depressing. Ben disappeared on their evening walk when Rachel allows him to run ahead to the park with their dog. The police, as usual, waste their time focusing on Rachel for a crime and then including other family members. They totally miss the real criminal and it‘s only Rachel who finally figures it out when it‘s almost too late for her son.

This was a good mystery about a missing child with some good twists. It was slow in parts and probably a bit too long, but the kidnapper was a surprise to me.

I have 3 reads going right now. The tagged book is a thriller that I am enjoying. I have no idea what‘s going on, but in a good way! Also reading The Stand-In, a romance that I‘m enjoying. And lastly, Admission, a YA book that I just started today, but so far am liking.

Rachel Jenner is walking in a Bristol park with her eight-year-old son, Ben, when he asks if he can run ahead. It's an ordinary request on an ordinary Sunday afternoon, and Rachel has no reason to worry until Ben vanishes. The story is told in two POV, Rachel and the investigator, DI Jim Clemo. The book starts out slow but soon takes off and deals with the pain and panic of having a missing child. In the end the kidnapper was a surprise to me.

EadieB I'm looking forward to reading the next book in The DI Jim Clemo series, The Odd Child. I recommend this book to those who love thrillers. #WhatSheKnew #GillyMacMillan 4y

#61 of my year. Going to check out this writer who has been on my tbr list and on my tbr shelf for many years.

Caffeinated_Reader Wow. That was a heavy read. I hate books that put children in danger and animals. This was all of that but a whole lot more. It had the feeling of realness to it. The emails and blogs gave the story an added touch of truth. I thought for sure I knew who done it and I guess once you zero in on a suspect you already lose because you put blinders on. I liked how everything was told. 4y
Caffeinated_Reader It was originally done. Although it was a tough story to read I really liked it and the way it was all pulled together in the end, though terribly tragic, was a sort of peaceful acceptance that you had to respect. I definitely recommend this book and also look forward to reading more by this author 4y

This was likable enough.

It started of way-way too slow, the pace was often broken with over illustration of unnecessary things. (i really didn't care exactly what everyone was wearing or how their front garden looked)

But the overall story was cutting edge and the red-herrings believable enough to have me guessing until the reveal.
I really like how the author used different formats of social media to expand the story.

I think I'm back in the reading game.😁
Initially I struggled a lot to concentrateand just didn't find anything that held my attention.
But somewhere during the week something changed and last night I had to stay up to finish Bunt Paper Sky. And this morning I can't wait to pick up all my half finished books.

Thanks @Andrew65 this #Readathon made all the difference!

I'm so excited for April #BookSpin

📚
#BookSpin : Burnt Paper Sky by Gilly Macmillan
#DoubleSpin : Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven
#TripleSpin : Coraline by Neil Gaiman

An excellent selection over every genre I picked except fantasy - but I believe last months #BookSpin quench my thirst for a little while. 🤨

Thanks again @TheAromaofBooks for organising this fun way to kill our TBR's

TheAromaofBooks In love with your collage!!! 5y
katy4peas Coraline is one of my very, very favorites!!!❤️❤️❤️ 5y
Enchanted_Bibliophile @katy4peas I'm excited to read it. I've been putting it off because I've seen the movie before I read the book. That's generally not a good thing for me to do. As I then tend to never get to the book. 5y
katy4peas I loved the movie too, but the book is much better and there are obvious differences between the two with some of the characters. Enjoy! 5y
Enchanted_Bibliophile Thanks @katy4peas. Now you've piqued my curiosity into reading mt #TripleSpin first 😊 5y

After reading this book, my son is never leaving my sight. This is every parents worst nightmare, a missing child.
The book is written from Rachel (mother) and DI Jim Clemo and focuses on the pain and panic of the timeline for a missing child. It also shows how social media can twist perspective even when they don‘t have facts and hurt the parties involved.
I really enjoyed this read and didn‘t figure out the kidnapper so that‘s a plus!

A truly gripping storyline that had me wanting more. I was invested the whole time. I did find some of the characters whiny, but I found that the mixed POV was extremely helpful in keeping me interested.

I did see the ending coming though.

All in all, a great read that I would definitely recommend!

Beautifully written. One of the POV characters was only relevant so we could see events through his eyes. Clues were threaded throughout for the red herrings, where the mystery's solution had very little pointing toward it. I would still rate this highly, because I don't think the mystery was the author's main purpose. This was a window into the life of a family broken by child abduction, & she deserves all the stars for having accomplished that.

I started this novel earlier in the year and nearly regretted it; reading novels about missing children is probably not among the smartest things I do now that I have a child myself. I had to keep going, though; I had to find out what happened to Benedict Finch.

When a young boy goes missing, his mother is scrutinized and judged by the public. This is a spot on reaction in today‘s world of social media, don‘t you think?

I liked this book, but didn‘t love it. It twisted and turned as mysteries do, and kept me guessing, but I didn‘t find anything extra to set it apart within the mystery genre. I listened to the audiobook and may have liked it more had I read it. Still a pick!

This book was addictive. I couldn‘t put it down around the 60% mark. The author led me on so many different options of “who dun it” and each one was believable! I was on so many different tracks throughout of who is responsible for taking the missing boy, but I never did figure it out! (Usually I can see where these types of domestic thrillers are headed!) it‘s a #bookclub pick that we are discussing tomorrow at the library. Also, cheesecake 😋
