This was OK. A re-telling or the origins of Ursula, except without the how she became the Sea Witch parts. Seafarer's Kiss is a touch dark fantasy and a touch too slowly paced but the concepts are good. #littlemermaid #ff #queer #other

Essentially the Little Mermaid - but with a bisexual protagonist! and Norse Mythology!
(Which are both choices that I think would make noted historical bisexual and frequent mythology nerd Hans Christian Andersen very, very happy)
It is true that the second half of this book is much weaker than the first. But I still really enjoyed it over all.

I'd have loved more about Loki and what drove them; they were rather villainous at times and it'd be good to see more of the multi-faceted trickster some scenes hinted at. Everything seems to be resolved rather easily, but overall I enjoyed this. #4in48readathon Second book down, a little behind schedule! (I ended up feeling like reading after all.)
Amazing Loki concepts, interesting concept but this book felt both too long and too short.
Do you read while you cook? I often find myself getting a few pages in while I make a meal.
Look, anything that includes canonically genderfluid Loki is a win for me. Add to it a pansexual protagonist, a shield maiden, and a “The Little Mermaid” retelling, and I am in. It could have been a bit more fleshed out in parts and the stuff with the jilted bestie felt rushed, but overall, I enjoyed it a lot.
Ugh, what a slog. The idea (a bisexual retelling of The Little Mermaid infused with Norse mythology set in the Arctic) has definite potential but the execution was terrible. Flat, undeveloped characters (god, the main character was somehow incredibly annoying and insipid at the same time); a plot fuelled by one-dimensional patriarchal villains; writing full of telling instead of showing. I hate to give an #ownvoices bi book a bad review, but...
Hmm not really enjoying this at the half way mark. There's a lot of telling instead of showing, the characters are flat (the main character is especially insipid and is one of those 'I'm better than the other girls'), and the plot is fuelled by patriarchal dudes being jackasses.

This was a fun and awesome queer novel about a mermaid fighting for her independence, falling for a human and making deals with trickster deities. 💙
A lovely LGBTQ retelling of The Little Mermaid set in the Norse Viking era. Great world building and interesting characters made for a fun quick read. Also, freaking gorgeous cover. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑 #lgbtqcharacters
I'm a fan of fairy tale retellings & this was a really cute one-- basically a Norse LGBTQ Little Mermaid complete with Viking warriors and questionable deals with the trickster god Loki 🐬❄🌈

The perfect mermaid #socksunday 😊🌊
Got crafty the other day with some paperclips and tassels that I made into bookmarks. I have a huge collection of random bookmarks and I usually just use those or whatever scrap paper is handy, but it's nice to have something a little more fun 😊
Turns out what my summer was really needing is a bisexual, Norse myth retelling of the Little Mermaid. So far, I'm enjoying this, so glad I stumbled upon it!

I enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the most amazing book but it was fun. It never got boring and it was really short. A great book if you want something different. No contemporary, no fantasy. A true fairy tale retelling of the little mermaid!
This was a really interesting book. Easiest description is LGBT characters + mermaids + Norse mythology.
There were some odd character actions that the author didn't quite handle the way I think logic dictates but it was a very unique twist/mash up of stories. It's a pretty accessible read whether or not you know lots about Norse mythology. The main character and her world's problems we're very interesting. It's a slower pace but not boring
"My own experience told me that the misery of lost hope pleased the god above all else. Loki promised the world and delivered hell, but here I was, still striving to meet their conditions."
Day off work? Beautiful weather? Nagging dogs?

This cover alone is enough to give it a go but I'm also reading it for the #summerflingread challenge in the LGBTQ+ Romance category

The Seafarer's Kiss was the book I read last month and I really enjoyed it. It's a retelling of the little mermaid with a bisexual main character. She has been set up with a merman but she meets this human girl. she falls in love with the human but has to pay a price for it. In general this is a really quick and cute read, and I recommend it.

My final thoughts on the book are pretty simple. It's not perfect, no book will ever be. But, the story flowed so well from point A to point B. Just sitting here trying to find one thing it could have done without is hard, because almost everything had a purpose. How Ersel felt about being betrayed, everything with Loki, Ragna leaving. It all had it's purpose in the plot and in Ersel's character growth. Plus, it was pretty gay which I LOVED. ♡♡♡!!
What we had might not be forever, but it was now, and it was everything I needed.
AAAHHHHH !!!! I'M JUST SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS AND THIS KILLED ME LOL!!
Damn so much is going down in this book rn. I'm about halfway through and I have not been disappointed. There's mermaids and it's gay as hell, which is everything I want in a book. But I did NOT see this twist coming, despite a few hints of it. I won't spoil it, but oh man I have no idea where this book could be heading now. AAHHH!!
I liked this way more than I thought I would because I heard some mixed reviews. It was such a great and unique retelling of The Little Mermaid. I love the Norse mythology, the romance and the arctic setting. If you are in the mood for a mermaid book I recommended this one for sure.
Book delivery two of two: The Seafarer's Kiss. Lesbian mermaids in the Arctic with Norse mythology? Yes please.
So here I am, adding yet another bookish distraction to my life. Very healthy for my time management of course 😘 I'm #currentlyreading The Seafarer's Kiss by Julia Ember. I'm only about a third of the way into it, but the story is maintaining my interest so far. A little diverse mermaid story to mix up a fairytale.

4 stars! This book was so cute and refreshing. I knew it was a #lesbian retelling of The Little Mermaid, but I wasn't expecting the authenticity or the Nordic mythology, which was so fun. Full review on my blog @ http://howlinglibraries.com!

First of all this cover is perfection! 😍😍😍 The story is absolutely wonderful. Norse mythology with an androgynous Loki using they/them pronouns, a female/female love story, wrapped up in a little mermaid retelling! I'm in love with it all so much! I love all things mermaid but this book was delightful, short and sweet. It's especially perfect for summer even if it's set in cold weather because mermaids. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Look at this cover -- it's so pretty! About to start this one. (I've been super into reading romance lately, idk)
