Mere Christianity | Clive Staples Lewis
Mere Christianity is the most popular of C.S. Lewis's non-fiction titles. The book is compiled from the legendary radio talks which he gave during the war years. Each article is a brilliant example of his definition of Christianity.

This classic C.S. Lewis (but I repeat myself) book starts with very simple ideas and uses them to reveal profound truths of our place and role in the universe. Lewis‘ humble, curious, questioning conversational style really makes the text accessible, which figures because the first few chapters were written as a radio address. No preaching to the choir, just an invitation for a broad audience to ponder serious questions.

Originally a series of radio shows about Christianity, C.S. Lewis strives to give the basics of the Christian faith. He is very successful in that goal. This book is good for anyone wanting to get the basics on what it means to follow Christ. Lewis does an outstanding job of laying out what it means to be a Christian, without getting into any detailed theological issues. New Christians and lifelong believers alike can benefit from this book.

RobinMcElveenAuthor My oldest daughter and I read through this one during her senior year of high school. I believe we both enjoyed it.

If there‘s a different way to do this, I haven‘t found it yet. I thought you all might appreciate my new mug. No more having to refill my cup in the middle of a chapter. It‘s the size of a small paint can! I have included the name of the next book I intend to read. Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. It‘s not something I would choose on my own, but I told my husband I‘d read it months ago. I‘d love to discuss it with anyone who has read it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lewis is one of my favorite writers & thinkers, and I have read Mere Christianity many times before, and I'm sure I will continue to read & re-read it in the future. Every time I've read it, new aspects have stood out, old questions written in my margins have been answered, and new questions are brought up. Though it was written in the 1940s, there is still so much that felt timely and even more that felt timeless.

1. Yes
2. Fiction but in recent years I've read a lot more non fiction which once was a genre I stayed away from.
3. True crime stories.
4. Most recent would be Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. Devil in the White City really turned me on the the genre
5. The Miracle Morning by Hall Elrod.

When visiting AZ I grab something off the right wing book shelf to take a vacation from my secular world. This was interesting but full of the old-timey judgmental nonsense I remember from Catholic school.

EllieDottie I agree with you. When I read this book I found it frustrating, because it expected you to make these leaping assumptions without much real basis (And I‘m a Christian) (edited) 7y
BestDogDad @EllieDottie Yes, he should‘ve just admitted that sometimes you just have to go on faith instead of trying to rationalize things that are hard to rationalize. And I think it was a bit dated. Most of it was probably from the 40s and 50s. I would like to believe that if he was still alive he would‘ve come around on some of the issues that are accepted now. 7y

#survivingdecember is where I'm at right now. I love this book when I #needpatience because focusing on deep, meaningful truths helps me to reset my focus and calm down when I'm losing it. I chose this photo because I'm pretty sure it's the exact face I make when my patience is wearing thin. 😐😂

I enjoyed listening via audiobook, but this is such a dense topic I'll have to revisit it sometime in the printed version. Lewis hits on some really good topics— some hard, some thought-provoking, and a few I don't agree with, but I think it's worth a read if you're interested in learning more about Christianity or are a Christian yourself.

Daisey This has been on my TBR for a long time, but I just haven't been able to make myself start because I expect the exact denseness you mentioned. (edited) 7y
Merethebookgal @Daisey the chapters themselves seemed fairly short when I was listening, so you can always try reading little bits at a time between other reads. 7y
