This classic C.S. Lewis (but I repeat myself) book starts with very simple ideas and uses them to reveal profound truths of our place and role in the universe. Lewis‘ humble, curious, questioning conversational style really makes the text accessible, which figures because the first few chapters were written as a radio address. No preaching to the choir, just an invitation for a broad audience to ponder serious questions.
Originally a series of radio shows about Christianity, C.S. Lewis strives to give the basics of the Christian faith. He is very successful in that goal. This book is good for anyone wanting to get the basics on what it means to follow Christ. Lewis does an outstanding job of laying out what it means to be a Christian, without getting into any detailed theological issues. New Christians and lifelong believers alike can benefit from this book.
If there‘s a different way to do this, I haven‘t found it yet. I thought you all might appreciate my new mug. No more having to refill my cup in the middle of a chapter. It‘s the size of a small paint can! I have included the name of the next book I intend to read. Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. It‘s not something I would choose on my own, but I told my husband I‘d read it months ago. I‘d love to discuss it with anyone who has read it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lewis is one of my favorite writers & thinkers, and I have read Mere Christianity many times before, and I'm sure I will continue to read & re-read it in the future. Every time I've read it, new aspects have stood out, old questions written in my margins have been answered, and new questions are brought up. Though it was written in the 1940s, there is still so much that felt timely and even more that felt timeless.
”To what will you look for help if you will not look to that which is stronger than yourself?”
An absolutely classic. I adore Lewis‘s writings on Christianity.
"There is no fault which makes a man more unpopular, and no fault which we are more unconscious of in ourselves. And the more we have it in ourselves, the more we dislike it in others.
The vice I am talking of is Pride or Self-Conceit: and the virtue opposite to it, in Christian morals, is called Humility."
Lakehouse cleaning done (ok, I didn‘t get to the master closet or staircase) and some planning done for #nonfiction2019. Turns out I need a lot more nonfiction books. I‘m going to check out what other folks are posting for this challenge. And send me your suggestions!
This is an interesting book
Now for a little reading...
"A proud man is always looking down on things and people; and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you."
Loved, loved, loved this one!!! So glad I chose this for the #Booked2019 prompt for #IrishAuthor !! If you haven‘t read this it is a must read as well as “The Great Divorce” Lewis was ahead of his time regarding theology and bringing together believers and non-believers. ❤️📚🤓
I simply adore this man! So much of what he says is common sense but the way he explains/writes makes you think. So happy I chose this for #IrishAuthor prompt for #Booked2019 ! 📚🤓❤️
Starting my 5th book of the year! #Booked2019 prompt for #IrishAuthor and another one that has been on shelf for a long time! Looking forward to this one. 🤗
1. Yes
2. Fiction but in recent years I've read a lot more non fiction which once was a genre I stayed away from.
3. True crime stories.
4. Most recent would be Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. Devil in the White City really turned me on the the genre
5. The Miracle Morning by Hall Elrod.

📚 Author‘s last name
📖 I‘m a huge fan of the Bible, Count of Monte Cristo, and anything by C. S. Lewis.
👃🏽I used to always smell books as soon as I picked them up! I honestly believe my super power is being able to guess how much I‘ll like a book by it‘s smell. 😂🙈
💰 I don‘t.

Every time I read C. S. Lewis 🤯 👏🏻 #librarypicksoftheweek #cslewis #library & of course always have my #kjv in practically every room of my house
My one book buy at Barnes and Noble yesterday. I‘m very excited. The first chapter is so good.
All that we call human history--money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery--[is] the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.
Two #monochromatic covers of Lewis books that feed me #inmysoul. #newyearreads #readingresolutions @Jess7 @bookloo @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks
When visiting AZ I grab something off the right wing book shelf to take a vacation from my secular world. This was interesting but full of the old-timey judgmental nonsense I remember from Catholic school.
I enjoyed this book. It took me a while to read despite how short it is because I wanted to make sure I gave it my full attention. I liked the philosophical principles.
#survivingdecember is where I'm at right now. I love this book when I #needpatience because focusing on deep, meaningful truths helps me to reset my focus and calm down when I'm losing it. I chose this photo because I'm pretty sure it's the exact face I make when my patience is wearing thin. 😐😂
I enjoyed listening via audiobook, but this is such a dense topic I'll have to revisit it sometime in the printed version. Lewis hits on some really good topics— some hard, some thought-provoking, and a few I don't agree with, but I think it's worth a read if you're interested in learning more about Christianity or are a Christian yourself.
I'm listening to the audiobook and just finished a chapter on pride that I feel quite a few political leaders would do well to read.
Wow! What an amazing book. The audio book was really awesome, the narrator absolutely helped me navigate the way CS Lewis writes. Solid 4 stars.
I'm really glad I got this on audio! It helps me understand what Lewis is saying so much better ❤️
"If we do not believe in decent behaviour, why should we be so anxious to make excuses for not having behaved decently?"
Happy Resurrection Sunday to my fellow believers and Happy Easter to those who celebrate!
"He has risen, just as He said" - Matthew 28:6A
True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.
One more for today's prompt... How could I forget Mere Christianity and The Fault in Our Stars? I've read these multiple times over the years as well. #mostreread #feistyfeb @RealLifeReading
