Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend
Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend: A Novel | Matthew Dicks
Imaginary friend Budo narrates this heartwarming story of love, loyalty, and the power of the imaginationthe perfect read for anyone who has ever had a friend . . . real or otherwiseBudo is lucky as imaginary friends go. He's been alive for more than five years, which is positively ancient in the world of imaginary friends. But Budo feels his age, and thinks constantly of the day when eight-year-old Max Delaney will stop believing in him. When that happens, Budo will disappear.Max is different from other children. Some people say that he has Asperger's Syndrome, but most just say he's "on the spectrum." None of this matters to Budo, who loves Max and is charged with protecting him from the class bully, from awkward situations in the cafeteria, and even in the bathroom stalls. But he can't protect Max from Mrs. Patterson, the woman who works with Max in the Learning Center and who believes that she alone is qualified to care for this young boy. When Mrs. Patterson does the unthinkable and kidnaps Max, it is up to Budo and a team of imaginary friends to save himand Budo must ultimately decide which is more important: Max's happiness or Budo's very existence. Narrated by Budo, a character with a unique ability to have a foot in many worldsimaginary, real, child, and adult Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend touches on the truths of life, love, and friendship as it races to a heartwarming . . . and heartbreaking conclusion.

This is the most charming story! The main character is Budo, the imaginary friend of Max, a young boy on the spectrum. Budo goes to great lengths to help Max and, in the process, embodies all the lessons about how to be a good human that we learned in elementary school. But this book deals with adult issues and shouldn‘t be viewed as a child‘s book. I found myself unable to put it down and cheering out loud as the story evolved. ❤️❤️❤️

This is a truly awesome book! I first read one of his other his books written in list form and loved it so ordered this one and couldn‘t put it down. Budo is Max‘s imaginary friend who helps him in school when he gets “stuck.” But things get dicey when Max disappears and his parents fear the worst. I laughed, I cried, I will think about this one for a long time! Soooo good!

This story was the definition of creativity. It's about a young boy with Aspbergers and narrated by his imaginary friend. I may have cried once or twice. Sometimes I read stories like this to understand my brother better and it's always an emotional ride. 🥹🥲😭💜

Anything that gives an imaginary friend some airplay I am right behind it.

This book is the memoir of Budo, his imaginer is Max and Max is the bravest boy in the world who dances with the devil in the pale moonlight. This is Budo's story so I shan't tell you anymore. When you're needing a break from your own reality, this is the memoir to read.

Brilliant, easily a 5 star book

If you want your mind to be blown ! This is the book , I couldn't put it down , have you ever thought of who decided that the color blue was blue and decided to call it blue ? Well this book makes you think of stuff like that and the descriptions of imaginary characters is just amazing, like who though of this ? Clearly Matthew Green did ! Would recommend this book to anyone looking for a "change of scenery". I really enjoyed the storyline.

Listening to an audiobook! I just finished the Fox Forever and loved Matthew Brown‘s voice over and didn‘t want to say goodbye just yet. The two characters from the books are combining a little in my head but so far Budo is an interesting character. Kind of smart but has this childish innocence to him too. Let‘s see how the rest of the book goes!

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. However, I was not fond of the writing style at the beginning. I understand the style followed the narrator that is dreamed up by an autistic boy, but the narrator could do and knew so much more than the boy and I feel his writing style could have rereleased a more mature nature and it did develop through the rest of the book. The idea that an imaginary friend could write a memoir is spectacular!

The book cover had me intrigued like most, but a quick glance at the first page, and I knew immediately that this book was not like any other. It was such a refreshingly unique storyline that I was hooked from the first second. I stayed up late, finishing the book cover to cover without even leaving the couch to grab a fresh cup of coffee. In my top favourite reads for 2016.

I read this book for my bookclub. I think it will be a fun discussion. I did really enjoy the story being told from the Imaginary friends perspective. You really use your imagination when reading to keep up with the descriptions in the book. There were a few slow spots in the middle, but push through as it gets quite good. I am glad I read it😊

This is a story told from the point of view of Budo, who is the imaginary friend of Max. Max is autistic and has challenges he must face in his everyday life that other kids don't have. Budo helps him get through each day. Something happens in Max's life that I wasn't expecting. It's a great read. #Childlike #MayBookFlowers
