It‘s another week!

I‘m diving into I Almost Forgot About You. This isn‘t my first Terry McMillan book, but it is one of her most recently published books that I have yet to read.

I picked it up because I‘m trying not to read our September book pick for the Buddy Reads with Reading Beyond the Book Cover, It‘s Not All Downhill From Here.

I‘m expecting multidimensional characters and drama from this audiobook.

What are you reading this week?

This book was one of my first posts back in my early Litsy days. The MC is an optometrist, and I read some pages while waiting for an appointment with my optometrist. #iforgotday #julyjam

I started this a few years back. I didn‘t like it. I had the audiobook this time and I actually liked it. I DO NOT like Terry‘s voice, but tolerated it. The story was really good. I‘m glad I gave it another go.

Nute I‘m not gonna say that I will never finish it, but, yeah, it remains not completed (years later) because I wasn‘t liking it.🙁 3y
S3V3N @Nute it‘s unnecessarily long. It took me a while to finish it, but it ended up being pretty good. With audio I would fast forward some parts because she was wordy. 3y
Nute I was shocked not to like it, because I have really enjoyed many of her other books. I can‘t even remember now what was not working because it was so long ago. I never returned it to my bookshelves…it‘s still on my nightstand so I guess that hope was holding out. Maybe I‘ll try again. 3y

S3V3N @Nute I don‘t remember why I wasn‘t liking it before either. It came across my Facebook page and I said let me try the audiobook. Terry has a terrible audio voice, but I listened anyway. I noticed that I could relate to the main character this time and that may be why I liked it. Her whole change careers, etc. 3y
QueenJ I didn‘t like it much either. Took me awhile to finish it 3y
S3V3N @QueenJ It was a struggle. LOL 3y

Audiobook. Although I didn‘t love this book, I feel like it helped me like it more because it was read by the author. I didn‘t relate but... I like how she told her story :)

So, I really got super close to DNF this one. I just didn't identify with the main character. I felt the love story was a bit unbelievable but not unbelievable enough to grab me (if that makes sense). I don't know if its a racial confusing thing on my part (and it might be/most possibly is the issue) but I just didn't understand her life, her relationships or anything like that. But.... I listened to it will driving back to Houston... so finished

So, I saw some good things about this one. And found it on my Libby (also I can use it as my commute back to Houston book). I had been listening to 1Q84 (which I am loving but the sex... and driving... I just can't)

ElizaMarie I almost DNF this one too. I agree with your comments. I probably should have read your comment before I downloaded this book. I mean I get how being single and thinking about your past might help you move forward. And I applauded her with that idea, however her family and friends made it seem so ehh. 5y
ShananigansReads @ElizaMarie I‘m glad I‘m not alone. The family/friends really bright the book down. 5y

Terry McMillan makes me happy! Every. Single. Time. This time around, optometrist Georgia discovers that a former love has died, and goes on a quest to tell men from her past what they meant to her. Cue self-discovery and personal growth.

Susanita I loved this book! And... it so happened that I was reading it while waiting for an appointment with the optometrist. 7y

?”Reunited, and it feels so good. Reunited 'cause we understood there's one perfect fit, and, sugar, this one is it. We both are so excited 'cause we're reunited, hey, hey!"? I'm back together with an old favorite author, and I've got all evening to read.?? And isn't the title fitting: Ms. McMillan, 'I almost forgot about you'....but that is no longer applicable.

Reggie I remember reading How Stella Got Her Groove Back and thinking Terry was cool because Stella is reading Waiting to Exhale on the beach and doesn't really care for it. Lol 7y
Nute @Reggie That is so funny. 😂 I don't remember that part. You know what that means? A reread in the near future. 7y

2/16/2017: I literally slapped this one closed on page 1. I'm sure the writing is fine. I just don't read chick lit. Maybe I'll try in the summer? Has anyone else read this one?

2/12/2017: Finally getting to my TBR stack! I snatched this one up back in the summer for a good price, knowing it would be a while before I got to it. Looks like light reading. ? Gotta finish "Chilbury" first, though.

#TBRtemptation post! Following in the vein of "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" & "Waiting To Exhale", this is the story of Dr. Georgia Young. Despite success, she's still restless. So she gives up optometry, moves, & may just have a second chance at love. It's all about facing fears, taking chances, & opening yourself up to possibilities. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook ?

I'm a member of 4 book clubs, (one a week!) and just starting to tackle Novembers picks ... I've already read 'The Dinner' and 'The Girl on a Train', so only two on my TBR... I'm listening to the Terry McMillan, which the author narrates herself and is tons of fun 😊.... And with those beautiful illustrations, 'A Monster Calls' will be a visual treat...though expecting lots of waterworks 😢😢😢

Finished this at work tonight.

Outside my normal preferred genre, but still enjoyable. McMillan's characters felt real and age appropriate and it was nice to see the world through Georgia's eyes. Her descriptions of the Bay also really made me miss that area, and overall the writing was lovely. A little too much dialogue to follow in audio, but the author narrated it well.
