“...we just can‘t know...our brains fill in all the details, for good or for ill. We want to tell ourselves a story - any story- so we can get back to certainty.”
I was immediately captured by this book and couldn‘t put it down from the start. This book shows how unfair it was for women in the 1940s to be in an abusive marriage with divorce being frowned upon and even your own mother tells you that you don‘t have anywhere to go because he‘s your husband. The courage, strength and wit that Sarah proves to have by the end is admirable and inspiring. Only critique is that it‘s only 303 pages.
I love the relationships that are created in this book ❤️
While reading this book, I couldn‘t help but think about the lengths people will go to in order to keep the ones that they love close..whether it‘s the right thing or not.
