That's sort of the definition of meat...
At the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards
I just realized my drink coordinated with my book. #lifegoals
My first stack of books for Women in Translation month. My library has a bunch of graphic novels by women that are translated into English. Two of these are Japanese, 1 Korean, and 1 French. #WITMonth
My #24in48 reading buddy. Starting my second audiobook
Our brains are weird.
I landed myself in the ER today by inciting panic with an innocent question at a doctor's office about an ulcer. This is why I avoid doctor's visits.
Book mail! I've been waiting for this one.
I was listening to this one but I couldn't do it. I just went to the library and got a copy so I could read the end. Too stressful wondering what is going to happen. Now I can go back and read it without a horrible sense of foreboding.
Zina is sex outside of marriage. This is a story about a woman in Afghanistan accused of killing her husband. She is the daughter of the local "witch" and she used her knowledge of spells to help a girl in prison for zina. She's telling her mother how she remembered the spell. I laughed out loud.
I've been working on turning my formerly overgrown backyard into a nice retreat. Planted a lot today and now relaxing on the hammock.
Armchair Book Expo is coming up May 31 - June 4. I'm one of the social media boosters who will be running twitter chats. There are daily blog topics too and lots of giveaways. Check out the schedule at http://www.armchairbea.com
Library pick ups today
I can't eat food from any Asian country unless I'm alone because of my husband's food allergies. Feasting on Japanese food on my weekend out of town while reading about a Chinese-American Navy cook in WWII.
Book mail this week.
Book mail from Harper Collins and TLC Book Tours for review. Set in Afghanistan
This is a heavy book for beach reading but I was in the mood for a change.
Today the book went to Alexander Springs but we didn't stay long because it was too cold.
Today's reading location was Sand Key County Park in Clearwater FL. Vacation is fun.
#readdiverse2017
Pontoon boat, manatees, and books. Didn't get much reading in though
My vacation packing. I have a new audiobook downloaded and I'm taking my ereader. I still worry about not having enough ... or the right books... or something. No clothes packed yet...
This was a great audiobook. Bassem Youssef was a surgeon who became a political satirist in Egypt. That went well until he had to flee the country. http://www.spiritblog.net/revolution-for-dummies
I'd have a better library haul post if the library didn't misplace my interlibrary loans. Maybe they'll show up someday.
I'm binging fluffy foodie books.
A bisexual mentally ill woman who is learning to live as a double amputee is recruited to work with the fey in Hollywood. #ownvoices for mental illness. Full review - http://tinyurl.com/ktxjnnt
I actually shopped at a bookstore today. I never do that. I have 2 for Foodies Read giveaways and 2 for me.
I wanted to like this book. The premise is amazing and people rave about it but it was a slog to finish. It just fell flat for me. I wasn't invested in any of the characters. The time travel tried to get too complicated and fancy. I think I might have lost the plot but I just didn't care.
Do they have to put library stickers right across the cover?
I'm ready to start reading this song of my people.
This is a book about grief written by a man going through it. Emotionally tough book.
Wow, that's um, oddly specific. Can't say I've ever read that phrase before.
I loved this book about a gender fluid teen whose blog goes viral leading to outing. It is a great book for learning about gender fluidity. Full review at http://www.spiritblog.net/symptoms-of-being-human
