Sunday night football and reading. My fiancé and I picked books for each other to read so we would read something outside of our norm and I must say this is definitely out of my norm! I have so many questions about the cartel and I literally have to stop after every few pages and ask him cartel history questions! ? Needless to say we are having lots of book conversation! Anyone else read this or other Don Winslow books?

NatalieR Yes! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I‘ve read this series, The Dawn Patrol, The Force, and Broken. I loved every book! I hope you enjoy the one you‘re reading. 2mo

I need some help! My Christmas break begins today! I passed Nursing 3 with flying colors, only 1 more semester until graduation!! I must say I am even more happy to get a chance to do some pleasure reading. I‘m ready to escape into a fantasy world!!! I want to read a series over my month break but can‘t decide which one.....what do you all think? What series gets your vote?

JenlovesJT47 Heartless is great!! 5y
Karisa Congratulations on passing a big hurdle! Those are all fantastic books! Just close your eyes and grab one. Can't go wrong! 5y
BookaholicNatty @JenlovesJT47 I haven‘t read Cinder or any of the others do you suggest I read those first?? 5y
See All 11 Comments
JenlovesJT47 No cause this one is about Alice in Wonderland so they‘re separate. Although Cinder and all of the others are great too! 5y
Sisasuku I suggest The Raven Boys - but just so you can tell me what it's like 😅 5y
SiriGuruDevSingh I‘ve read all 4 of these, and in my not-so-humble opinion, I advise: The Grisha trilogy for fairly entertaining YA fantasy, then The Raven Cycle for a more urban fantasy vibe! The Lunar Chronicles is EXCELLENT, but Heartless was meh, (when I later read Oakes‘ Queen of Hearts it was exactly like what I‘d hoped Heartless would be) and Caraval was annoying and made almost zero sense. Obviously, just my opinion—so much depends on our mood anyway❤️💕 5y
Eggbeater Congrats on your classes! You picked great books. The Maggie Stiefvater is my favorite, followed closely by Leigh Bardugo. 5y
LibrarianRyan Congrats on c;lasses. I bote Shadow and Bone. 5y

Book #10 in the Modern Mrs Darcy Must Read mystery list! This book is the start of the inspector Gamache series which is great! I read this last summer at the beach and fell in love with the town of Three Pines. In this one a woman is found dead in the woods. Locals believe it was a hunting accident but Gamache expects there is more to it then that. It‘s a wonderful first novel to a series which will leave you wanting more!

Whose Body? | Dorothy L. Sayers
post image

Book #3 of Modern Mrs Darcy‘s Must Read mystery list! This is the first of the Lord Peter Wimsey series where he find a dead body in a bathtub! I can‘t even imagine. This series is said to be one of a kind, something all readers should at least read once. It is so popular that it was made into a radio series, a tv series, and has been republished several times with many different covers. The audiobooks are said to be delightful as well!

Crazeedi These may be like Rex Stouts 'Nero Wolfe' series? I absolutely adored these. This is the first one 5y

The blog post today from @annebogel aka Modern Mrs Darcy grabbed my attention. It is about mysteries that keep you turning the page and when you get to the revealing part you look back and think, “How in the world did the author do that!”Then you start to see the important clues that you read all along not realizing they were important. I ADORE books like that! She shared 12 books that fit this category and I thought I would share them with you 👇🏾

BookaholicNatty This is the first book on the list! It is said to be one of the greatest detective novels ever written! I‘m anxious to find out. It‘s from a series of detective novels called the Lord Peter Wimsey Series. I hadn‘t ever heard of these before, maybe because they are an older series. Have many of you read this book or are you familiar with this series? 5y
IndoorDame My parents had a set of those when I was a kid. Old paperbacks from the 70s? maybe? I read a few when I was in middle school. Thanks for reminding me of them - they didn‘t completely capture me then, but that‘s something I‘d LOVE to read now! 5y

The babysitters club series impacted my life as a preteen and teenager. It even inspired me to start my own babysitting service in my local community. I originally read it bc it is our June book club pick but I flew thru it in 3 days and already have the next two on hold at the library. It is a dystopian sci-fi book. This is another book I picked up today that was a book club selection. I am catching up on books from February until June because nursing school got in the way of my reading! I haven‘t read anything by Michael Chabon but I have heard wonderful things about his writing. This is a story of a sheltered son of a Jewish mobster. “It‘s a coming of age story that will make you feel good and also take you by surprise” Considered a Modern Classic.

bookseller_cate I still need to catch up on the second season, but I loved The Handmaid‘s Tale, both book and show. 6y
Moony Mhhh that I have to read it soon.... 6y
Tashreads I loved The Goldfinch- this trailer looks amazing. So excited 😆 6y

CampbellTaraL Oh that cast looks so good, too. 6y
Kimberlone Can‘t wait for this movie to come out but I really wish it had been adapted into a miniseries instead! I know there‘s a lot of things that are going to have to get cut out :( 6y

Having to read this for the effective speaking class I am taking! This is my first out of 3 summer classes! It‘s not terrible but I‘m not reading it for pleasure. I rather be reading my other books! I did learn today tho that “public speaking was an Olympic event where the winner received an olive wreath and was paraded through his town like a hero.” Most all jobs now a-days require some sort of public speaking. Gotta love general ed requirements!

Mitch I think you‘ll be wearing an olive headdress in no time! 👍🏼 6y

I just discovered there are Red Rising Funko Pop characters!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!! The one in this picture is Sevro who is very quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. He is a true friend to Darrow and I can‘t wait to see where this adventure leads them to next since they are officially partners in crime now! 😉

TrishB Does @DGRachel know this 😁 6y
DGRachel OH. MY. GOD. WHERE DID YOU FIND HIM?????? I‘ve only seen custom ones and I‘d rather spend $50 on books, but that wolf cloak is AMAZING!!!! 6y
DGRachel (and thanks for the tag @TrishB, because no, no I didn‘t know!!) 6y

TrishB @DGRachel I haven‘t seen anywhere in U.K. either! 6y
MicrobeMom OMG! I had no clue. It might be my favorite series besides Harry Potter. I am waiting for the 5th book to come out!! 6y
BookaholicNatty @DGRachel they are custom ones. The more I looked into it just now I discovered someone makes them on Etsy. I didn‘t realize people even did that! I love Sevros wolf cloak tho! I just got to the part in Golden Son where Darrow finally tells Sevro about Ares and his plan and Sevro is all in to join him and help!! So I have become and even deeper fan of Sevros!!! I can‘t put it down! But...RIP Quinn😭 6y
DGRachel @BookaholicNatty After you finish the Books, if you‘re on Facebook, join Hic Sunt Leones. It‘s a FB fan group, but it‘s riddled with spoilers for the first four books, so wait until you‘re done. There are at least two members that do custom Funko Pops. 6y
BookaholicNatty @DGRachel I will definitely do that!!!!! Thanks for telling me! I‘m hoping one day they will make a tv series of them all! 6y
Copwithabook I love that series so much!! 6y
Gissy I need to read this series!😱 6y

I have the second book ready to dive into! And the third is sitting on my shelf just in case I fly thru this in a day or two. I‘m so excited to continue on. I love the feeling when you escape into book worlds and just “live” there for a little while. When characters become friends. What book worlds have you enjoyed escaping to? #SeriesRead

DGRachel This is my favorite of the series to date. So good. 6y
QueenJen The Other's series by Anne Bishop. I didn't know it happened until I was getting ready to read the 3rd one. 6y
TheSpineView Love this series! 6y

BookaholicNatty @QueenJen I will have to check The Others series out. I don‘t think I have heard of it! 6y
QueenJen @BookaholicNatty They are very unusual, I was expecting an urban fantasy, which I guess it is but more fantasy strong. A different world created all together. 6y
Buechersuechtling From what I know/read about it this is nothing I would like but I enjoy to read your posts because they burst with all the good, happy, „eager-to-keep-on-reading“-feelings a book one loves equips you with. 6y

Pickpick

My reread of this proved to be better than the first time I read it! The audiobook wasn‘t going fast enough for me so I pulled out my paperback and finished the book this morning! I‘m looking forward to finishing this series now that I have had a refresher. What will happen to Darrow, Mustang, Cassius, Sevro, The Sons of Ares, Darrow‘s Family. So many questions. I think this would make a good TV series, wonder if that will ever happen!? #SeriesRead

I have been listening to Red Rising on audio as a refresher since it‘s been awhile since I last read it and there is so many things I had forgotten, like Titus and Sevro. I also forgot how much I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. I‘m looking forward to reading the rest of the series! Pierce brown is an amazing author(and also very cute😂)! Are there any other Red Rising lovers? If you haven‘t read this and enjoy sci-fi, check this out!

TheSpineView I loved it too! 6y
Rissreads Yep I loved this and the next 2, such great books! ❤️💙💛 6y
Abby2 Loved all these books. Wild ride every time!! 6y

BookaholicNatty @Rissreads @Abby2 that‘s so good to hear!!! I can‘t wait to read on in the series! And it‘s good to know they are all awesome reads, sometimes a series tends to not be as good as it goes on! I also heard a new one is coming out in July! 6y
Dragon Enjoyed the trilogy 👍 6y
DGRachel I enjoyed the original trilogy more than Iron Gold. I didn‘t care for the shift to multiple perspectives, but I understand why Pierce did it. I can‘t wait for Dark Age in July, but if it‘s anything like Golden Son, it is going to shred my heart. Golden Son is still my favorite of the four published and it was such an emotional read, I nearly threw the book across the room when I finished. Enjoy!! (Just be sure to have Morning Star ready after GS) 6y
Addison_Reads I loved this trilogy and recommend it all the time to sci-fi fans. Iron Gold was boring to me, but the original 3 are excellent. Enjoy💜 6y

For all my Gail Carriger lovers, she released this book yesterday. Has anyone read it already? It has aliens, murder, and romance. I fell in love with Carriger when I read her Soulless series! I‘m looking forward to reading her latest book! 📚

theresidentromantic I'm doing an audio reread of The Parasol Protectorate rn! So I can get to all the little novellas. Like Biffys 😍 I'll probably read this when that's over! I'm excited to see what she did that's so different she changed up her penname 6y

Unsheltered: A Novel | Barbara Kingsolver
post image

Found this at the library while visiting my family in Delaware this week. Good find for a dollar!! I have seen and heard good things about this book but am curious to know what my #LitsyFamily thinks of it. I enjoy Barbara Kingsolver. I loved The Poisonwood Bible ALOT!!!! If you haven‘t read that one you should. The audiobook of it is good as well or at least I thought so. Do you have a favorite Kingsolver book?

TheBookgeekFrau I really enjoyed this one. Bailed on Poisonwood Bible, though. 6y
quietlycuriouskate Loved it! ❤ 6y
Christine Poisonwood is one of my favorites, too, and I really enjoyed Unsheltered. :) 6y

rachaich I loved Poison wood and also Prodigal Summer. 6y
LeeRHarry Prodigal Summer is my fave - although I haven‘t read them all including this one 😊 6y
Herschelian Am listening to this as an audio book. Kingsolver herself is the reader. Early days but I am enjoying it so far, slightly reminiscent of Anne Tyler‘s writing. 6y

One of my 2019 reading goals is to finish books in a series that I have already started. I enjoyed the first book of this series so much!!! I‘m relistening to it on audio before I move on to book #2 because I know there is a lot that I have already forgotten. If you are into sci-fi you will love this. What series have you started that you need to finish?? I love a good series so fill me in on your favorites! #SeriesRead

Leniverse I'm currently finishing Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy. I took a long break after the second book, both because the series is really heavy on the science, and because I was terrified that it would all go wrong in the final book and I needed to pause while I still had hope for humanity. Almost done with the final book now, and I still have hope! Love this series and want to move to Mars. 😅 6y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘m a series grinch these days - often I‘m interested in the premise of a book but end up striking it off my tbr when I find out it‘s part of a series 😐 that said, I‘m still keeping up with Jim Butcher‘s The Dresden Files (which has been easy as he hasn‘t released anything for 4 or so years now), Alan Bradley‘s Flavia de Luce series and most recently fell in love with Alyssa Day‘s Tiger‘s Eye Mysteries and Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles... (edited) 6y
BookishBelle I started Nevada Barr‘s Anna Pigeon series last year. I‘m reading the third one now. I‘m somewhere in the middle of Janet Evanovich‘s Stephanie Plum series. I need to get back to those. I‘d like to get back to The Dresden Files that @thegirlwiththelibrarybag mentioned. I read the first few probably ten years ago and really liked them but haven‘t gotten back to them. 6y

So The Essex Serpent is going to have to wait till I get home. I have to concentrate a little more when I‘m reading it and the trampoline park is distracting me so I decided to dive into this instead and it has immediately grasped my attention! This is a buddy read from @Cinfhen !!! I think I am going to like this one Cindy!! I‘m looking forward to this one! ❤️📚

Cinfhen Yay!!!!! This book wasn‘t perfect but it gave me plenty to write and think about. And I LOVE that notebook that @TrishB gifted me❤️Hope you can read my sloppy handwriting 😜 6y
Jee_HookedOnBookz Read this a looooong time ago but I remember enjoying it 😁 6y
bookandcat Love this book. Read it on release as a soon to be 9th grader and reread it over and over. Idk why I liked it so much because the subject matter is very dark (especially given the age I was!) but it is SO well written. 6y

Summer is finally here for me! My nursing semester ended yesterday!I am so happy and have extremely missed this awesome Litsy community!! I‘m looking forward to reading these books along with catching up on book club reads!! This is @annebogel aka #ModernMrsDarcy summer reading list! If your into podcasts and haven‘t listened to hers yet you must check it out. It‘s called What Should I Read Next. Are you all using any special lists this summer?

LiteraryinPA Welcome back and congrats! 6y
MelissaSue81 No summer lists for me. My semester end Tuesday, but I have a feeling with how my summer work schedule planned out I‘m going to have less time to read instead of more. 6y
Bookwormjillk I just added a bunch of books from her list to my library holds. Love her podcast 6y

fleeting I'm already preparing mine (summer starts in June for me) and there's going to be a lot of book series like Ali Smith's seasonal books, Rachel Cusk's trilogy, and a Chinese sci-fi trilogy because I figure this is a good time without many interruptions! 😊 6y
Suet624 Welcome back 6y
MayaB1226 Congratulations on your nursing semester ending! I‘ve only read one of those books (Field Notes On Love), but I see a whole bunch more that look super interesting. Of course, I‘ll have to get through my own overflowing TBR pile first! 😂 Thank you for sharing…happy reading!! 6y
