At the airport, waiting to board with Hilo Tuesday on repeat.

Finishing up this thoughtful title from #Naturalitsy #MidWinterSolace #BuddyRead. I‘ve been taking my time with it. 🧘🏻‍♀️🍵

There are a few gem reflections in this, a book that purposely asks the reader to take their time reading. It‘s reflective and calming. Admittedly, there were a few times I did not quite agree with the author‘s musings, but that may be the point—it opens for good discussion. Overall, a lovely book. Great pick for the #MidWinterSolace #BuddyRead !

DogMomIrene That‘s how I‘m feeling too. Kind of between So-So and Low Pick. I‘m a little past halfway, so I need to pick this up more to finish. 5d
Librarybelle @DogMomIrene It‘s a good reflection overall, but I‘m glad I picked it up at the library rather than buying a copy. 5d

This little book is packed with so much wisdom! I started listening on audio, and quickly realized I needed a print copy, because I wanted to highlight passages, write in the margins, flip back and forth through the pages, and come back to again and again. A gem.

What a perfect choice for #LitSolace #MidwinterSolace , @AllDebooks !

Timely.

The top passage speaks to politicians‘ behavior, but the bottom passage is a light in the dark: “Historically, the people who bring about the change in society tend to be not the middle-aged but the passionate youth. Their hearts are sensitive to the plight of the oppressed. Their spirits stand tall against injustice & fight for the voiceless. Hold on to that youthful heart & spirit no matter how old you are. #MidWinterSolace #BuddyRead

Suet624 I love this. My only quibble with it is the elderly (me) have hearts overly sensitive to the plight of the oppressed as well. 😊 but I understand the point being made. 💕 (edited) 1w

Librarybelle @Suet624 I‘m middle aged, and I like how the quote reflects in the last couple of lines that no matter how old you are to be mindful of your youthful spirit in recognizing the plights of the oppressed. At least, that‘s my interpretation. 😁 1w
Deblovestoread I was struck by these passages as well when I read them last week. 1w
Librarybelle @Deblovestoread I love how you can find quotes that speak to you at the right moment while reading! 1w
Suet624 You‘re right, of course. I think I got tripped up on that one line and never got to what was actually being said. 😂😂 1w
Librarybelle I did at first too, @Suet624 ! There have been a couple of passages I‘ve had to reread to make sure I understood the message. 😂 1w
Suet624 Thanks for your understanding. 😊💕 1w
Librarybelle No worries at all, @Suet624 ! 😊❤️ 1w
rwmg @Suet264 Since he mentions the “passionate“ youth perhaps he's saying that yes, the hearts of older people might be sensitive to the oppressed but the young have the energy and passion to do something about it. 1w

Bailedbailed

While I'm enjoying the daily tree for the #NaturaLitsy buddy read, I'm bailing on our #MidwinterSolace read after just 13 minutes listening. The author shared two classic pieces of bad advice as "good advice" including changing how you feel about your bad situation and looking at someone else's bad situation so you know yours isn't so bad. This is harmful in many contexts and encourage people to dismiss their lived experiences. @AllDebooks

TheBookHippie Agree. I bailed too. Blech. Loving the tree book. 1w

I promise, #MidwinterSolace folks, I did try with this but had to give up when I found myself enjoying the illustrations more than the words. This is really not my jam, but I hope everyone else enjoyed it!

Finished the January buddy read of the #MidwinterSolace and I did read at a much slower pace. Just a chapter a day so I could reflect a bit on what I was reading. Quite a few things struck me and resonated. I even took a picture of one of the quotes to send to my parents as it reminded me of them - the one about putting your wealth in other people. I‘ll definitely try to keep the things I learned in mind

I've felt so much happier since adopting this practice. The Japanese are very wise folks.

I spent a delightful hour absorbed into this book on Sunday afternoon.

You see, #hyggehourreadathon doesn't work for me at 8 pm as that's when I'm shuffling off to bed and can't concentrate anymore.

But I can sit and dip into a small book on the weekend that's a quick read.

This was good but ultimately, forgettable. I read this one because my word of the year is stillness. Decent intro but still looking for more on this topic.
