In previous iterations, I believe #offtheshelf was a very low-key #readingchallenge that encouraged folks to read their own books and track which titles came "off the shelf".

I realize this is very similar to other "prioritize your own collection" challenges, but I'll be using the hashtag #offtheshelf2025 in the coming year to help track how many of my own books I read...

The temptation is ALWAYS there. It's very difficult to keep my holds queue manageable, but I hope this will motivate me to just build lists and use my own books. 1mo

I need to tackle the books, ebooks & audiobooks I own but otherwise have horrible follow through with themed reads or reading specific books during specific months. I'm too much of a mood reader. julieclair @Librariana As @TheBookHippie said, #ReadOrDonate is similar, but as @Seabreeze_Reader indicated, it really is meant for physical books. The concept: choose one book each month, and if you haven‘t read it by the end of the month, you are “required” to donate it. If you have read it, you‘re “allowed” to keep it if you want. It is meant to help folks clear space on their overflowing physical bookshelves. #offtheshelf seems more all-encompassing. 👍 (edited) 1mo

I'm gonna contradict myself and admit that there will be (1) challenge I'll be participating in where there will be prompts... but it's Taylor Swift themed, so I couldn't help myself 😆 1mo

Librariana @julieclair - I'm glad @TheBookHippie mentioned the challenge you'll be hosting (and the similarity to this one 😁), but I'm grateful to you for also sharing the specifics 😊 I think, more than anything, I want to hold myself accountable when it comes to reading the physical books I purchase and listening to the digital audiobooks I download. If this 'challenge' can serve as a spot for people to track their progress, awesome! 1mo

Cinfhen Have either of you seen the controversial IG account that launched a few days ago @LibrarianRyan @Chrissyreadit it‘s called Eva.Stories It‘s based on an actual diary of a girl named Eva who was living in Hungry before & during the Nazi invasion. Told through IG stories it‘s a photo journal retelling of Eva‘s real experience. It‘s a powerful visual!! 6y

Cinfhen Because some people feel using social media and making “Eva” a #hashtag is trivializing the Holocaust. That it marginalizes the true horror. I think it‘s a powerful teaching tool for this generation 🤷‍♀️ 6y

Crazeedi @TrishB @Cinfhen you can borrow up to 10 books/magazines at a time. If you go over 10, you have to send one back. Also the books do come and go, every months they drop a few, add a few. And then theres prime first read where you get to buy one book a month for $0 out of 5 different new ones before they list them to sell. 6y

gradcat I just found them this past January... @TrishB you can borrow ten items for as long as you like, but you must turn one (or more) back in if you want something else...pretty much like a library, only with a limit on number of items.
