Looking at my TBR list, I decided to read Attack of the Black Rectangles. When I read the summary, it occurred to me to read this first. I was bummed to see that I'd be reading about the holocaust. I'm still traumatized by the last book I read a couple of years ago and took a break. It also occurred to me that I have only read one other book by Yolen, and now I can say that she's a genius. This book was amazing.

As Hannah‘s family celebrates Passover, she finds herself traveling back in time and witnessing unspeakable horror.

This book is about a young Jewish girl who experiences the holocaust and what her family endured through this devastating time period. I think this book best fits students in the 5th or 6th grade as it is more on the mature side.

I have met survivors from concentration camps, and my great grandparents were Orthodox Jews who immigrated in the early 1900‘s. Wow, this book really got to me. Books about the Holocaust are always so hard to read, but I found this one especially brutal. It was just such a good story, though. A modern-day Jewish girl is transported back in time to experience life during the time of the Holocaust. It gives her perspective on how her family members survived.

An interesting time travel story and a great read. It also lets younger readers identify with the horrors of the Holocaust from a teenager‘s perspective. During Passover Seder, 13-yr-old Hannah, who doesn‘t care much about her family heritage, is transported back to Poland in 1941. There she experiences the life in a concentration camp, or ‘death factory‘ as is known, and learn of the struggles of her family and the Jewish people.

A complete insight into a Jewish concentration camp through the eyes of a young girl. It opened my eyes and began my obsession with world war two literature. A phenomenal rendition with eye opening exerpts and heart wrenching retellings.

This book left me speechless and changed how I viewed the holocaust. It is great for middle schoolers that are do not fully understand the suffering and utter devastation of the holocaust.

This HF novel is great for a LC, and IR I love this book. I recall first reading it in the 6th grade and it has always been a book that I constantly think about. It is about a girl, Hannah, who hates attending her family's Passover Seder. She does not appreciate or care about her culture and the past. During the Seder, she is transported back in time to WWII to experience the Holocaust in a concentration camp.

Went to the Holocaust Museum last week and was inspired to read some World War II books. This one is the first up on my list

I've probably read this book eight times throughout my life. It's still a #favorite after all these years. #war #maybookflowers

Well. This was probably one of the hardest books to read since I read The Kite Runner. This is historical fiction. A girl named Hannah gets transported back into time right before WWII. She is then Chaya, a Jewish farm girl who's got memories of being Hannah, & knows that Nazi's are dangerous & that they all shouldn't get on the trains... I had seen the movie as a kid but had never read the book, I thought it was time to change that. It is beautifully written and absolutely heart breaking. #roguebookbingo

I love buying used books ☺️

I read this while my son was reading it for school so we could discuss it as he had questions. Tough subject matter but good themes of the resilience the human spirit and a strong reminder of the importance of remembrance so we never repeat history.

This book was amazing, harrowing, heartbreaking. This is a Jewish fictional tale about a young girl, Hannah, transported back to 1942 and experiencing first hand the atrocities of war and the concentration camps. It was utterly compelling and heartbreaking in equal measure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
