I wanted to love this, but my feelings are mixed. I appreciated the convent boarding school setting, how the story follows the liturgical year and the tales of female saints peppered throughout. Unfortunately, I didn‘t enjoy the writing style. Domet is definitely a more is more kind of writer. So many similes! Felt unnecessarily descriptive and drawn-out. #NunLit

I don‘t remember all that much about this book that I read in 2016 except that four girls named Guinevere are “dumped” at a convent & the stories of the female saints they learn about are featured in it. Seems a good pick for today‘s #SaintsDay prompt.
The picture is from a historic church in Montreal, taken when I went there for work in 2014.

Meant to post this yesterday & got distracted. I read this book about 4 years ago & I don‘t remember much about it beyond there being 4 girls named Guinevere, all dumped at a convent by their respective parents & them taking care of comatose soldiers. However, I do recall there were stories of the Catholic #Saints throughout the book.
(Also I still really love this cover!) ❤️
Should have bailed on this. I appear to be in the minority on this one. I did not like it at all. Anyone in the US want this book? I will mail it to you.
Between a pick and a so-so
Four girls, all named Guinevere, form a bond after they‘re dumped at a convent orphanage by their parents. Interesting coming-of-age story, but I could never pinpoint the time period and the ending was somewhat unbelievable.
Audiobook was well done!
Life inside a convent when religion isn't the only thing on your youthful mind. A wonderful coming of age piece.
@Jas16 You Are Awesome!! Thank you for the fabulous surprise!!!

I finished my last selection for this season of #booked2018. Four girls named Guinevere end up in an orphanage run by a covent. Each of them has their own story of loss and abandonment and, desperate for love and a sense of belonging, they cling to each other as they keep their secrets and plot how to escape the convent. The writing is lovely but the pace is slow. Still I ended up loving it. #friendship
Part of #freakyfriday and I forgot to review last month! It‘s a melancholy story and I found it hard to identify with the characters. That said, I was really invested and attached to them.
Communion wine—red, but not usually a merlot—is the only alcohol access the four, living-in-a-convent Guineveres have as of p. 132. #freakyfridaychallenge #freakyfriday
Book mail is the best mail. Thank you so much, @TheLibrarian ! The bookmark was a great surprise. (Now to hide it from my kids, who run off with all of my fun bookmarks. 😉).

✨I think #theguineveres by #sarahdomet sounds so unique. I can‘t wait to read this one eventually. I have so many books on my bookshelf that I own or that I borrowed that I still haven‘t read yet. 😂😂 I need two whole days out of the week to dedicate only to reading or something! Lol! QOTD: What do you do that helps make more time for reading??✨
I‘ve been meaning to read this book since July. It‘s been compared to Virgin Suicides a lot, so I‘m excited to start it!
I was really looking forward to this one, but I'm almost halfway through and still forcing myself to read it. Not much has happened, and I'm just not finding it very compelling. *yawn* #meh

(US only, sorry!)
I loved this quote- I definitely do this.
So I got a little sidetracked with the photo here but it IS a book about teenage girls trying to escape a convent so it works, right? 🤷♀️ Their families have abandoned them to the convent, a War is happening, and the girls are praying fervently that four comatose, unknown soldiers will be their way out. I don‘t think this book will stay with me in a deep way but it‘s deft, funny and dark- always a good combo for me.
This is one of the best books I've read in 2017. Beautiful writing, a unique setting, and characters that are flawed in extremely believable ways. Definitely worth the read!
#Bleeckersays Sunday morning reading and relaxing #pugsoflitsy
Next up! Much needed pedicure and one of my recent Book Outlet bargains.
@L_auren I had to read this one after your glowing endorsement!!! 😃
Somewhere along the way, I read something that told me to read this book. Here I go!
#signedSunday a few hours early! It was a surprise in a Book Outlet bargain book. 😃👍🏻 Starting this book after a bit of Litsying!
Has anyone else ever had a signed surprise?
Just got this on ebook sale. Yippie! Been on my TBR for months.
OUTTA CONTROL! Book Haul #2 arrived today. I bought all of these simply because I liked the covers! Judge me. I do not care. 🤣
Amazon is killing it with the deals! 🙂
More #bookmail from my last BookOutlet order and I've been dying to read Borne so I obviously had to purchase it.
Sorry Summer Santa.
Love these 4 girls and their stories! I did not expect the ending, but was pleasantly surprised.
My plane reading.
I survived the dentist this morning, so I'm spending the rest of the afternoon here with my book. It's due back and I need to finish!
My friend and I were just laughing about this phrase over the weekend. Then it showed up in my book 😀
If you love someone you have two choices: hold on to them or let them go. But clinging doesn't mean you love them more and letting go doesn't mean you love them less.
The story of 4 Guineveres who were dropped off by their families at a convent during different points of their lives. United by their names the four girls have a close bond as they navigate life in a convent. The main story covers a year of their life that changed everything. Lots of good quotes in this book and I appreciated the Catholic focus.
Starting on this one tonight. This is for my book club and I should have started long ago! 😬 #tubreading
My glasses almost match the cover! It was meant to be. Any book compared to The Virgin Suicides is an automatic draw for me.
