Yeah, this was just sort of meh for me. Top heavy with a rushed conclusion. Journalist on a luxury cruise thinks she‘s discovered a murder and then everything goes to hell in a hand basket.

I never imagined I would black out a #bookspinbingo board @TheAromaofBooks
Only one of these was a DNF
AND I read like 70% of Fire & Blood. Suffice to say I have not thought any thoughts all month LMAO 😜
Best books of the month:
The Taken Ones
The Wolf King (it‘s brain 🍬 but was real good)
Woman in Cabin 10
Rough Pages &Werewolf‘s Guide to Seducing a Vampire continued their series in satisfying ways.

This one definitely fits CHILLY NIGHT. On the North Sea. When a storm arises. Beyond cold temperatures. Aurora Borealis. It's Ruth Ware. Love/hate her? A chilly ride either way. 🥶🛥️🥶
Big book to screen news!!
What a fantastic cast!
This was frankly better than I expected. For one thing, I always thought it was like a cabin in the woods 😂😂😂😂
My only gripe, because I don't drink, is that I'm so sick of the narrators of thrillers drinking constantly and the whole book taking place in an alcoholic haze.
I can't lie to myself anymore. I have a cold 😭
My children are with their dad so it's me and these babies and bed, I guess. I'm trying Cabin 10 after reading about the millionth review of it on Litsy this morning - I really hope I like it!
I have all of this author‘s books, but I‘ve only read this one! Have you read her others? Which ones were your favorites?

Book 20📚 4⭐️
A pretty neat twist with this one! Definitely worth the read.
A dark, dark wood will be my next Ruth Ware!
Overall I liked this book but I felt like the second half wasn‘t as good as the first part.
My first book for #52BookClub24
This book kept me guessing of who the suspect is from start to finish! Easy read and un-put-down-able. Lol
It‘s a shame because this book was something I looked forward to reading. However, the book ran far too heavily into the realm of unbelievable and I felt myself disconnect from it. It had many holes and sadly just left me unsatisfied. I would love to give a Ruth Ware book another chance and hope to feel differently!
⭐️⭐️ This variation on a locked room mystery, and its unreliable narrator, Lo, didn‘t do it for me. I didn‘t care about her, the “woman,” or how the story unfolded. The requisite twist was okay, but the whole story felt totally pointless. I just can‘t suspend that much logic. My first, and last, Ruth Ware. #bookclub
I read one book previously by this author and wasn‘t in love with her writing but decided to give her another shot. I was much happier with this book compared to the last so I‘ll probably give more of her books a try. I actually really enjoyed this suspenseful thriller. The “who did it” really shocked me but made perfect sense and I really enjoyed the ending. Well written and methodical. This book will remain in my little library. 📚
I absolutely snarfed this book.
The first half was perfection - creepy, tense, shady characters on a luxury cruiseship, Agatha-Christie-meets-Gillian-Flynn energy... I was hooked from the start.
The latter half was OK. Without spoilers, the story became more... contained? And moved more toward domestic noir than whodunit.
A fab thriller.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars
I made it to 25% and there is still no hint of what the mystery is. A mediocre travel journalist with a messy personal life has her apartment robbed while she is in it, which gives her panic attacks. She is then stuck on the first voyage of a fancy cruise ship for work, full of other desperate journalists and rich boring people. The repartee is not witty. Just not enough here to hold my interest.
"They did that sort of manly half hug thing, where you're too metrosexual for a handshake and not hip enough for a fist bump." I am not sure about this book, but I like the author's funny commentary.
4/5⭐
I really enjoyed this mystery/thriller.
Lo is one of the 10 invited guest on the Aurora. While the guest should be enjoy the cruise, one night, Lo heard a scream and a splash, as if a body was thrown in the ocean. Lo decides to investigate but she was warned to 'stop digging'.
Last person in the world to read this, i think. Lol. It was good. I figured it out, but it was still suspenseful. 3.5 stars.
This is Ruth Ware‘s second book but the first of hers I read and really enjoyed it.

I finished the tagged book despite my reading slump. I guess I will stick with thrillers and mysteries and give this Mick Herron book a shot.
I read 3 books by this author this month for #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville This book was published in 2016 but I have read a couple of recent thrillers and they are very similar in topics.
Lo works for a travel magazine and she will substitute someone from her job to go in this luxury cruise. Lo has drinking problems and when she reported what she saw, probably a missing person, no one believes her. She is an unreliable witness. ⬇️
My partner is grabbing a beer with friends so I'm curling up on the couch with this book. Hopefully I can get out of my reading slump!

Nope. Can't do it. I really tried, but I simply can't do it. Reading this type of book makes me anxious and I just don't enjoy it. Maybe someday I'll give it another go, but not today.
#authoramonth @Soubhiville
Overall, I enjoyed this thriller… it was twisty and all sorts of screwed up! A quick read that kept me turning the page!
Enjoyed this one (So did Max) that I read for #authoramonth. #aam. I did like The It Girl better though.
Laura, a travel journalist, is on the maiden voyage of a luxury cruise ship, when she hears a scream, a splash, and a bloody smear on the balcony of the neighboring cabin. No one is in that cabin or reported missing and Laura is an unreliable witness with her excessive drinking and sleep deprivation. I generally like “closed room” mysteries, but I found the protagonist annoying. Good use of emails/news clips interspersed, but only a so-so story.
#AwesomeApril readathon Oops, late to post 😅
I managed quite a bit of reading around Easter school holidays, very relaxing 😌
Continuing with my buddy reads. It seems like The count of Monte Cristo is gonna go on forever! Defo going over into May. Started Glimpses of the moon for #Whartonbuddyreads
The tagged was my choice for #AuthorAMonth Ruth Ware
@Andrew65 @Soubhiville @Graywacke
Lo Blacklock,a British travel writer, boards a small, luxury ship, the Aurora to Norway. The guests are potential investors and journalists. The owners of the vessel,Lord and Lady Bullmer, are the hosts. While in her cabin,Lo hears a splash in the water that sounds like a body being thrown overboard, along with blood on the glass door of the cabin next door. She reports her concern, but her digging causes trouble. #authoramonth2023 #ruthware #mttbr
A reread for me for April #AuthorAMonth. First time in print and this time audio. My first Ruth Ware (I‘ve read all but one) and still one of my favorites. Plus-Imogen Church is amazing.
@Soubhiville
👍
-fast read, suspenseful.
-unreliable narrator with anxiety problem (whom I found exasperating later in the story).
-use of social media to heighten suspense.
-uncertainty over what happens after the final pages.
👎
-long list of names made difficult to follow (weak characterisation).
-cliche after cliche.
Overall, a fun (& forgettable) diversion from my stress of moving house. I think her later novels are better.
#AuthorAMonth
Easy and fun read and I really enjoyed how it was set up with a glimpse into what the main characters boyfriend was dealing with at the end of each chapter. It wasn‘t the most exciting thriller but I would read more from the author! Solid choice for a cozy Sunday. Was between giving it a so-so and a pick!
I liked this book better than In A Dark, Dark Wood. But, it was still just okay. I liked the ending, I will give it that. P.S is anyone else tired of the alcoholic, “mentally unstable” woman who witnessed something and doesn‘t get believed trope? lol
New read. I wasn‘t a huge fan of In a Dark, Dark Wood but I‘m hoping this one is better. It‘s been sitting on my shelf for years so I thought I‘d finally try it out.
Lo Blacklock is a travel journalist who goes on the maiden voyage of the AURORA BOREALIS, a luxury cruise chip, for an assignment in the Norwegian fjords. Lo witnesses what she believes is a woman being thrown overboard, yet all passengers remain accounted for, and no one believes her. A fast-paced thriller and page turner--and a very easy read. A fun, watery romp. #claustrophicinwater

Have tagged the cut-off title!
This was okay. Up to like 70% of the way I was very scared it was gonna be one of those “and then she woke up and it was all a dream” stories 😂 but I dno, I‘ve been a bit annoyed at the narration for Wares books. Imogen is good and all, but I wish there was some more variety. All books kinda sound like they‘re the same after a while. I prob need a longer break from her
It‘s not to bad. Still haven‘t read enough to judge, but this quote is so true.
Enjoyable thriller with good pacing. Some aspects weren‘t fully believable but that‘s to be expected.
Getting the ambience just right for my afternoon reading. Storm at sea ambience courtesy of YouTube lol
Though this is not my favorite Ruth Ware book, it was the first one I read by her and knew I wanted to continue reading her books.
There are worse places to end up. Sounds like a happy accident to me 😌📚
Annis (my sister) just sent me this picture of Noki with her latest book haul 😄
Soooo cute! 🥰🥰🥰
(I'm going to swipe the Ruth Ware once she's done with it...)
