This was soooo good! I thought I had things figured out but I was so wrong!! Definitely a well above average thriller.
Thanks for the giveaway @ImperfectCJ !
A sweaty Southern murder mystery for a sweaty Southern summer (I live in the sweaty South). Louisiana swamps are full of cool creatures, twisty plants, tricky terrain, dark waters and sometimes muck. This book showcases that whole vibe in its theme. The narrator is great! Just like the swamp she grew up in, she is tricky, dark, and often has a mucky memory of the past. I enjoyed this story, but the ending does get twisty, like them swamp vines.
So good! Kept me guessing and second guessing. Will for sure read more by this author. #audioread #audiobook

The top 2 were amazing 🤩 I love Willingham‘s #GreatPlotTwists! Her newest is Only if You‘re Lucky, and I can‘t wait to read it. Stacked!

January 21, 2024 My new TBR that I have had in a pile since like the first week of the year! Trying to decide which genre to read: romance of thriller. I like both BUT the romance is calling my name. Let me know which one you would read. Comment below 😁
This is the perfect serial killer book to start your weekend night with. The twists kept coming and I was not able to decipher it until the very end.
Chloe, a fully functioning adult has her own practice and is also set to marry soon. But her past keeps catching up with her. Her father was arrested after he murdered a bunch of local teenage girls and now on the twentieth anniversary of the same, history seems to be repeating itself again.
I loved this book. At first I was doubtful. I‘m from Louisiana and a couple of things the author says just wasn‘t quite accurate (we never say “the crawfish boil was on the table”. It‘s just “the crawfish was on the table”. So minor details). But I was soon caught up in the story. I THOUGHT I knew who the killer was 3 times. But the more I read the more my mind was changed. Then BAM I was right. The 3rd time. And the 1st. 5 out of 5
I feel like I‘m in the minority with this one. I dnf‘d at about 80 pages in. I felt like I was reading a book I‘ve read 100 times before, and that I knew exactly how it would end. So I flipped to last several chapters, and it was. So I guess I saved myself 270 pages.
This was a good book. I loved the story line and all the twists and turns. The author makes you think you know who the killer is, but it‘s just too obvious an answer. The problems I had with the book are that it could have been a lot shorter. There was just too much narrative that wasn‘t necessary. Another issue is I figured out who the killer was halfway through the book. Finally, I was disappointed in the unresolved ending.
“When Chloe Davis was twelve, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, her father had confessed to the crimes and was put away for life. Now twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rouge and getting ready for her wedding. But when a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, that terrifying summer comes crashing back.”
Book #82
4.5/5
I was completely convinced for the first half of the book that I knew exactly who dunnit. I wasn't entirely wrong, but there was a LOT more to it than what I thought. This book kept me guessing, and I was suspicious of several people before the pieces all cam together in the end. Definitely worth a read for fans of the thriller/mystery genres.
“And for one single moment, like a flicker in the dark, it felt good.”

I have some time to kill before the #nancydrewcon starts tonight, and my neighborhood book club meets on Tuesday, so I should probably get this one read! #scarathlon
A solid mystery thriller about the family of a serial killer and what secrets are discovered when very similar kidnappings occur to what their father went away for. There is a solid twist, which was a guess of who did it for me, but it was fun to see how the author got there. Not completely original, but a good time. 3.75⭐️

Dr. Chloe Davis…absolutely delulu. I kept laughing that the narration made her unreliable because of “drug addiction” when it was one xanny and a glass of wine. Like my brother in Christ, of COURSE she needs it? She‘s a walking ball of PTSD.
This book is a serial killer thriller with a pretty predictable ending. I enjoyed the writing style. The characters are wack and I hated all the men (nothing new really). Overall, I liked it. 3.25/5!
I devoured this! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn‘t wait to see how it played out. I‘m kinda mad at myself for waiting so long to read it!

This one never got its hooks into me! The writing wasn‘t bad, but I ended up skimming through to read the ending. I didn‘t feel emotionally invested. 2 ⭐️
This was SO addictive!
2 twists in this one, I guessed one of them early on, but one of them was a surprise. A very good thriller. I'll look out for more by this author!

This book was so addictive! I loved it! Anyone have recommendations for books that are similar to this one?
This book stated out strong, sort of lagged in the middle, then finished out pretty decent. Although easy to figure out there were a few good twists that kept you wondering. In all a pretty good debut from the author. I definitely like her writing style and look forward to her next book 😊
Once again, a thriller with a twist I totally didn‘t see coming 😅 Thought I knew who did it and was irritated for a minute because I was only halfway through the book 😂 THEN, the twist. Solid thriller, I enjoyed it!
I finished this book last week. This was interesting. I don‘t really read a lot of thrillers anymore. The twist I wasn‘t expecting and I‘m confused as to a part of the ending. It felt like I had missed something.
It kind of wanted you to think you had an unreliable narrator where the people around her doubted her a lot and you didn‘t know who to trust.

I listened to this one via BorrowBox,
I found it ok.
Read for reading challenges.

I really enjoyed this one. Another quick read because I had to see if I was “right”. I wasn‘t 🤪

I shouldn‘t have started this tonight knowing I have to get up at 4 tomorrow. I think I know who “did it” and I don‘t want to stop reading. #LMPBC
May 4, 2023 If you like thrillers, read this one. I promise you will not want to read anything else. She kept me predicting it was "someone" but it was actually "someone else" who was much closer to her. I can tell you one thing for sure: The killer is NOT the father or her fiance. Hope you read the book for yourself
May 4, 2023 Happy May 4th. As they say from Star Wars, "May the fourth be with you". I am officially done with the book. I would, with bo regrets, give the book 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️??. Stacy Willingham keeps the reader on their toes and progresses the book at just the right speed. I like how she leads up to the climax but keeps her readers guessing and wanting more. Imo, I could not stop flipping the pages. I found myself flipping page after page
WHEW what a wild ride! I picked this up for a beach read, for the vacation I leave for tomorrow. It‘s finished 😂 oops!
May 3, 2023 Last night, I read for 1.5 hours!!!! The book was so goood that I could not put it down. I could not stop reading because the way the author writes is invigorating. I feel like I know who killed the girls but I want to hold my opinion for later when i finish the book.
Willingham enters the genre with more of a whimper than a bang with her debut about a woman grappling with her traumatic past and increasingly distressing present. I found Chloe to be a frustrating main character - a lot of her choices were illogical and her misuse of prescription medications was unnecessary. And I guessed a major plot point 25 pages in. Overall, underwhelming, but something to get you through a vacation or plane ride. 2.5⭐️
April 30, 2023 Over the course of the past three days, I slowly began to re-read this book. It always helps to re-read books because sometimes one can collect more information compared to of they just read it once. I am currently on page 152, about to start Chapter 20. So much has happened. I am not going to be sharing a lot in case some have not read this book yet... But things are happening fast!
So, this is definitely a pick for me! I was able to figure out who to be worried about right away but there were many twists and turns that kept me guessing for a while. Overall, very well done. I liked it better than her newer novel. ⭐⭐⭐✨
