The Fine Art of Invisible Detection | Robert Goddard
5 posts | 4 read | 11 to read
Tokyo, Japan Umiko Wada has had enough excitement in life. With an overbearing mother and her husband recently murdered, she just wants to keep her head down. As a secretary to a private detective, her life is pleasantly filled with coffee runs and paperwork. That is, until her boss takes on a new case. A case that is surrounded by shadows. A case that means Wada will have to leave Tokyo and travel to London. London, England Nick Miller never knew his father, and was always told he wasnt missing much. But when an old friend of his late mother says there are things that Nick needs to know about his parents, he cant ignore it. When a chance encounter brings Wada and Nick together, they couldnt know the series of violent events set off by their investigations. And when they discover Nicks father might have been the only witness to a dark secret forever buried, they realise there are some powerful people who will do whatever it takes to keep it that way...

Well this was an interesting, twist filled story. I wasn't sure when it started if it would hold my interest but it did. The plot is a slow burn one with a few really dramatic scenes thrown in. The end is brilliantly done though I did wonder if that might be how it ended. I liked it though. Wada is not your typical hero and yet you want her to survive. I think Nick was my favourite character though. Book 4 of #MarvellousMarch #Netgalley 4*

squirrelbrain Did you see that this is going to be featured on the first episode of the new series of Between the Covers? 4y
kezzlou85 @squirrelbrain ooh no I didn't. Will have to look that up. Thank you. 4y

My first 5 star book of 2021. A great read once again by Robert Goddard. His usual great story telling that takes in different places in the world and that relates to current events and events in the past, as well as of family secrets. As usual hang on for the great ride, with some surprises and great twists. Robert is truly a master story teller! Great to see a strong female lead.

Starting the new book by one of my favourite authors. This is due for publication in March, looks a slight departure from his normal books. Thanks to the publishers that sent me an advanced review copy. Interested to read this one.

Reading this as part of #JoyousJanuary Readathon. All welcome to join, runs from today until Sunday 24th. You can choose your own goals

EadieB @Andrew65 Lucky you! I see where you requested this on Twitter. I have requested it too on NetGalley. I'm going to read The Stillhouse Lake series and The Evening and the Morning during #JoyousJanuary readathon. Sorry about your MIL. My best to you and your wife. Such sad times. 4y
Andrew65 Thanks Eadie, when we found out she was in hospital with COvID on New Year‘s day at 89 with diabetes and dementia we were expecting the worst. Still hits you though even then. Desperately sad times. At least picking up pace of vaccinations, now just over 3 million out of 68 million. Only read first StillHouse Lake book but really enjoyed it. Just started the audiobook of The Evening and the Morning earlier this morning. 4y
Crazeedi Looks good, I'm going to try to get from net Galley 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Enjoying it so far, about a third of a way in. 4y
