I cannot tell you how much I loved American Gods & The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I very nearly had my love tattooed on my body (in the form of forget-me-nots done in a chain around my left wrist, like the goddess Easter).

This developing story continues to be so sad, upsetting, & disappointing. While Pavlovich is not the “perfect victim,” I think it‘s undeniable that he has continually & harmfully misused his power.

This collection of short stories is very uneven: some stories are fascinating and engaging, and some are at the very least boring. I think the best part is the introduction, where Geiman discussed how the idea of trigger warning crossed from the Internet to the world of things and how that might change our approach to art #bookclub

Another book in my quest to read everything Gaiman‘s written (for adults, anyway). Not everything in this was a hit for me, but I really enjoyed most of them, especially the last one, Black Dog, and one in the middle about a cave in the mountains. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book of short stories has elements of the metaphorical, bizarre and fantastical. I enjoyed most of them but mostly the 12 that make the Calendar of Stories, especially October. What he does with one story is wild, barely any information yet the reader can formulate the picture, and likely each reader reads a different story.

"..the past is not dead. There are things that wait for us, patiently, in the dark corridors of our lives. We think we have moved on, put them out of mind, left them to desiccate and shrivel and blow away; but we are wrong. They have been waiting there in the darkness, working out, practicing their most vicious blows, their sharp hard thoughtless punches into the gut, killing time until we came back that way."

This is one of my favorite parts of Neil Gaiman's introduction to this short story volume. I also love how he includes an intro/blurb on each of the poems/stories in the collection.

Great all around with multiple interesting stories told in a variety of ways. The last story is a special treat for those that have already read American Gods and is a short side story after the series of events in the book. If you‘re in the mood for short stories I suggest listening to Neil Gaiman tell them.

Some stories were excellent. Some were lacking.

Finally found time to finish the last stories - and that lying in a tree at the botanic gardens, too! Some of them I had known already, but mostly I kept thinking that I like his short stories even better than his novels!?

Ok so I am behind on posting and actually read this before the Neil Gaiman-Amanda Palmer split this weekend. Some of these short stories had been published before but most were new to me. I enjoyed this collection, and how it blended short horror with longer more thoughtful stories. Plus the Matt Smith Doctor Who story was delightful!

In the introduction to this 2015 collection of short stories, Neil Gaiman writes that we all wear masks. In a time where we literally are having to, Neil's writing once again has offered me a comforting escape. Gaiman is a magician with his words.

This is by far one of my favorite short stories I‘ve ever read. I found myself never wanting it to end. I could have stayed in that world forever. I‘m beginning to understand why Neil is a favorite author among many.

After being out of commission and sick for the last week, I finally finished one of the books I‘ve been working on and I‘m now starting a new one. I‘ve heard from many people this author comes highly recommended. Already a couple stories in and I‘m enjoying it so far.

I can't believe it's the 19th already!
My goal was to read 35Hours for #JumpStart2020 #Readathon but somehow I made it to 43Hours and I'm quite pleased with myself.

6 completions (3 comics, 2 Novels, 1 Audio)and
3 books in progress...😁 which I wil most definitely finished before the end of January.

3rd #AuthorAMonth book finished! I have read the first half of this book twice, & now 3 times. Yet I've never managed to finish it. This time though, I started it & went all the way to the end! I'm really glad I did too b/c while some of those stories I had read independent of this collection, others I hadn't, like Black Dog. I loved it, no surprise. And b/c I adore Shadow Moon, it inspired me to reread American Gods again!

All I can say is that the writing is so chilling in the most beautiful way. It often sounds like poetry.

I've read several of Neil Gaiman's novels, but Trigger Warning: Short Fictions and Disturbances is my first Gaiman short story collection. It's just as amazing as all of his novels--the structure just allows him to play, to move between genres and to cover the full span of possible moods. Here, he offers (with full introductions and context) an array of science fiction, fantasy, and magical realism. (continued in comments)

While I didn‘t love every piece in this eclectic collection, there was enough weird and creepy deliciousness to keep me reading. And Gaiman narrates the audiobook, which is always a delight.

I really have the best friends! Friends who come bearing gifts: the fab B&N special edition of Jane Eyre (one of my favorites!) and a collection of Neil Gaiman's short writing which I had never heard of before but looks delish.

There are still things that profoundly upset me when I encounter them, whether it‘s on the Web or the word or in the world. They never get easier, never stop my heart from trip-trapping, never let me escape, this time, unscathed. But they teach me things, and they open my eyes, and if they hurt, they hurt in ways that make me think and grow and change.

As someone who is feeling a bit suffocated in this world of trigger warnings snd safe spots, I found this quote to be refreshing and exciting. “Enter at your own risk” is exactly how I like to read.

A wonderful read that can be picked up and put down and enjoyed time and time again. I am not usually a big fan of short stories, but I'm a huge Neil Gaiman fan, so this one counts!
