Xenocide
Xenocide: Volume Three of the Ender Quintet | Orson Scott Card
The war for survival of the planet Lusitania will be fought in the heart of a child named Gloriously Bright. On Lusitania, Ender found a world where humans and pequininos and the Hive Queen could all live together; where three very different intelligent species could find common ground at last. Or so he thought.Lusitania also harbors the descolada, a virus that kills all humans it infects, but which the pequininos require in order to become adults. The Starways Congress so fears the effects of the descolada, should it escape from Lusitania, that they have ordered the destruction of the entire planet, and all who live there. The Fleet is on its way, a second xenocide seems inevitable.Xenocide is the third novel in Orson Scott Card's Ender Quintet.

Just finished listening to the Audio book for this one and it was a little hard to fallow at times. I liked some of the ideas the book was playing with. Such as the god spoken, and the fight over what to do with the descolada. I think if I‘d read this right after the other books I might have liked it more but it‘s been a while since I‘ve read the first 2 books in the series. Overall I liked it

Xenocide explores the increasing risk to Lusitania, a planet housing the only other two sentient species in the galaxy, along with a killer virus. Starts in space as Ender's sister travels to Lusitania and reaches far away to a planet called Path, where certain citizens are touched by God, which causes them to be both incredibly smart and also servants to brutal OCD symptoms. Requires a feat of deus ex machina to resolve, but I still enjoyed it.

X is for Xenocide

The second and probably last book about Ender that I‘ll ever read 😉

SpaceCowboyBooks Speaker for the Dead is the best book in the series. 5y

I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this series and it came as a breath of fresh air. The nature of the ethical dilemma was so thought-provoking. I really enjoyed the philosophical arguments the characters had with each other, even when I disagreed with them or disliked them. I breezed through many chapters without realizing. I didn't love all the new additions, but found the characters real and understandable. Looking forward to picking up the next.

“I realize even more than you have said so far, but I must tell you this but asking, by pretending not to understand...”

Every day... over and over... it‘s exhausting! How to manage working with people of power and privilege.

Religion. Penance, rituals, expectation. Tracing the grain of the wood, much like watching grass grow, or counting snowflakes as they fall.

After a very emotional day, worn out in many ways, feeling exhausted and awake. Perhaps listening to the narrative of someone tracing lines is just what I need. Penance? Or relief?

Can it be both? How can they be distinguished? How do we know if there is a difference?

My faves are totally sci-fi and fantasy, which is what I'm indulging with my tagged book when not driving. Totally hits that philosophical sci-fi spot.

I've been doing more driving than expected, so probably won't finish the tagged book in time. But it's been fun seeing everyone else's posts on my breaks! Anyway, many of the characters in this book speak Portuguese, which makes me want to try something new from Portugal! 😊😋 #11thHourReadathon

Belated Merry Christmas!
Visiting family for the holidays, and what I'd like to be doing is focusing on this book.
What I'm actually doing is keeping watch on my sister-in-law's village under the tree, lest my Toddlersaurus wreak havoc on its inhabitants. 🤣🤣🤣 ☮ and 💜 to all!

jmtrivera And yes, I know this is not the most holiday-ish of books, but I'm only 3 away from Litsy A to Z! 6y

5. Only just started so no opinion yet & my synopsis is vague & incomplete: Starways Congress sending a fleet to destroy Lusitania. Are they destroyers or saviours?

Finished this book about a week ago now and wow. I had my doubts at first, but I am still completely overwhelmed. I‘ve written so many notes and quotes and thoughts and questions because of this creative story. My brain is absolutely buzzing with scientific and theological philosophy! I am happy 😁

I love this quote. I love the overwhelming sense of ancient depth it gives her species. What a life like hers must be like...

Wow. I‘m only a couple chapters in and wow this book is dense. A complete 180 from the beginning of Speaker! Cliffhangers feel unnecessary though...

Lots of quotable moments in this book, but I find this one particularly relatable. I often find myself wondering what the "use" is of something I enjoy, and it takes away from the enjoyment I feel in the first place!

While I appreciate a dose of philosophy with sci-fi, this book in the series was particularly overloaded with philosophical, ethical, and scientific conversations that lasted too long.

Only the illusion of free will exists:
"If you've got one line of dominoes knocking each other down one by one, then you can always say, Look, this domino fell because that one pushed it. But when you have an infinite number of dominoes that can be traced back in an infinite number of directions, you can never find where the causal chain begins. So you think, That domino fell because it wanted to."

This is one of the most aggressively terrible books I have ever had the displeasure of reading. The characters are entirely flat and just plain jerks. There is no feasibility to these relationships and I found myself hating the people carrying them out more and more. I wish I'd never read it.

MAKAL03 Dude, you seem so stressed. Trace a wood grain line or something. 8y
