panI‘m certainly not the intended audience for this book, and because of that fact I hate giving it a thumbs down. Not sure I would have loved it when I was young, but I likely wouldn‘t have rolled my eyes a dozen times either. I read it because I needed a book with a character named Nancy and a book published between 1900 and 1950 for reading prompts. I can say I‘m happy to have at last read a Nancy Drew book, but I can‘t see ever reading another.
pickI‘m still trying to catch up for the #NancyDrewBR & just finished book 2. I really enjoyed this one. It wasn‘t quite as cheesy as the last one & the stakes were higher as poor Mr. Drew goes missing. I like Helen & the old ladies & the setting of the old colonial house with hidden staircases & passages. I do find it funny how quickly Nancy is able to get every bad guy to bend to her will & confess. 😆 This was fun! 4⭐️

pickSome of these books are re-read so they are part of my nostalgic/happiness from my reading past which means my reaction is different. It was entertaining in general but some parts were repetitive, lose or not well connected 🤷🏽♀️But I still love Nancy Drew and I will continue with this series🥰3⭐️
pickLoved the second book in the series. I felt like it had great tension and the audiobook is so good. My daughter and I had so much fun listening. The danger was real for Nancy and her dad as they solve a haunted house case.

pickTrying to catch up to the #NancyDrewBR group. I loved the side characters in this one, especially Miss Flora. The villain, Nathan Gomber, was a quintessential cartoon villain. I really expected him to say “I‘d have gotten away with it if it wasn‘t for that meddling girl”. 😂 The stakes are definitely higher in this one, with missing fathers and more physical danger. While I like Helen, I really want Bess and George, and I hope we get them soon.
pickA fun Nancy Drew mystery. #2 in the Series. Much of the action took place in a large home built in the 18th Century, which I enjoyed. And one of the characters was a really sweet, but also spunky, old lady - loved her! And seriously, what‘s not to love about a book with a hidden staircase?! 😀

pickND could cook an entire holiday dinner and change the oil on her blue convertible while kicking the keister out of the enemy with one hand behind her back AT THE SAME TIME. In #2, she is now on the case to find what's behind the ghost in her friend's relatives' mansion as well as where her father is who has been drugged and kidnapped. Are the two connected? so-soHonestly, I think this would have been a pick if I hadn't kept getting distracted by the consistent misspellings of "kidnapped" and "kidnapping." ? So far, my biggest enjoyment from reading these books has been coming across words that don't see much use anymore, like "presently."
pickYesterday was a success. I managed to finish two books I started last month. I enjoyed the mystery more in this installment of Nancy Drew, definitely a little more thrilling and of course Nancy is a great character with gumption. Looking forward to reading more Nancy Drew.

In this on a friend of Nancy asks for her help in looking into a “haunted” house. At the same time someone threatens her father. There were some scary moments in here.

pickI did a reread of this 2nd book in the Nancy Drew series for both #NancyDrewBR and #CloakandDaggerChristmas. It's a low pick for me. It was enjoyable, if a bit dark compared to others in the series, but the mystery was not all that compelling.

For me, I was surprised by the somewhat sinister ploys of the “ghosts,“ such as the gorilla face in the window. One of my fears is someone looking at me through a window, so that was a suspenseful moment for me!

3. Carson Drew is in danger, and we immediately meet some unsavory characters associated with the land deal (at least in the 1959 edition...I did not read the 1930 edition!). This mystery is different between the two editions, so some of the elements vary, but thinking of your edition, what did you think of this mystery? Were you at all surprised with the resolution?

2. In this book, Nancy has two mysteries to solve - the railroad/land issue that involves her father, and Helen's concerns regarding a haunted house. pick#NancyDrewBR My library had this copy with the original text from 1930. It is interesting to see how some stereotypes were strongly upheld in the book, while others were turned on their head, like an 18 year old Nancy being as brave, capable, and undeterred as she is. Fun read.
Still enjoying these reads for #NancyDrewBR. I liked this one a little more than The Secret of the Old Clock. Mainly because there was a potential haunted house. I‘m surprised how much action these novels have, considering the time frame they were written. 4.5 stars. 370 = Word Search.

Finished last night for #NancyDrewBR It was fun to revisit this one as it has been decades. Nancy is on the case to solve the haunting of her friend‘s aunt & grandmother‘s house while getting involved when her father goes missing while working on a legal matter. I forgot that Ned Nickerson & Bess & George aren‘t in the first several books. Anyway, a good blast from the past. Looking forward to the discussion on 12/15.

pickI read these simultaneously and, other than the bare bones of the old house suddenly being haunted and the existence of the hidden stairs, the two stories are pretty different. The earlier version definitely has some problematic attitudes. 😬 Reading these as an adult I'm struck by how innocent and optimistic Nancy Drew's world is. Which is probably why I like them. 😊
