Argh, I forgot that I can't stand angsty realistic teen fiction. I have an adult child so I've lived through this twice already. Also, I hate how the narrator keeps talking about his mom “letting herself go.“ DNF for my #doublespin @TheAromaofBooks

I throughly enjoyed this YA story of a grieving teen trying to live again after the death of his sister in an accident. The novel feels very true with devastating grief entertained with the minutia of every day teen angst.
I read this excellent YA novel during my class's SSR (silent sustained reading) time, so it took longer than it usually would have . . . because it was SO. Good. I just wanted to devour it! Federle has crafted a wonderful protagonist in Quinn, a teenager dealing with life and the death of his sister and first love and his dreams, all in a realistic and engaging way. Wonderful book.
Got a #BookOutlet #BookHaul this weekend. Several titles from the Rebecca Makkai‘s Twitter feed. She asked folks to shout out about books they felt were unsung. From her twitter to my TBR!!!

Discusses the evolution of YA.
I have read none of these. #trueconfessions. Anyone else not doing one thing on the #GARBingo ?
PBS has released their list of 100 books for the Great American Read series that starts May 22. I‘m excited to see new(ish) and older classics on the list as well as books from other countries besides America. I‘ve read 28 1/2 books (most of the Wheel of Time series for the 1/2). How many have you read?

I absolutely loved the book. The audio is read by the author and he is AWESOME. My favorite bit, though, was an interview with the author at the end. His advice for kids who feel different from everyone else is this:
“What gets you picked on as a kid is what gets you paid as an adult.” 💙💙💙💙
4.5/5. extra .5 for being set in my hometown; made it a lot more interesting when you know all the places being visited :)
page 264- “tiny little good moments that you catch like a firefly, and just like fireflies, you have to release them, because the whole point is that they‘re tiny and little and need to be with other fireflies. they aren‘t a pet. they aren‘t yours to keep. they‘re just moments. they‘re just fireflies.”
merry christmas!!
i‘ll be posting he books i got today shortly, after i finish this one and before i break the spines of my paperbacks :)
hope you had a lovely day :)
page 130- “the greatest way to affect your outlook on life is to consider that you already have more than what you don‘t have. and so i might not have a cell phone on me, or a sister at home, or a dad at all... but i have the sky.”
finished the haters by jesse andrews. on to this one by tim federle. #youngadult #thehaters #thegreatamericanwhatever #timfederle #jesseandrews
I took two boxes of donated books to the used book store and came home with these! What's the appropriate hashtag?
1. Found this guy back in June while on vacay in the Bahamas
2. Does chocolate count as comfort food???
3. Well the Bahamas was my top pick only because Paris seems too expensive but my husband thinks we can swing it!
4. Reading the tagged book, The Great American Whatever
5. No preference, I'll read whatever I can get

Day 160: "Oh, never mind: I didn't use up all my lies tonight." #shoes by #wilddivalounge from #modcloth
Great piece of YA. The audio book, read by Federle himself is very well done.
I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it. A good LGBT story with a quirky narrator.
Before, we gave you some good ugly cry books. Just in case crying isn't your thing and you've decided to pretend that the predicted foot of snow actually fell, here's our favorite feel-good reads!

I stepped out of my YA Fantasy genre again for this book. I'm glad I did. It was quick and enjoyable. I do wish I would have held back and read this one in the summer at the beach. It would have made for the perfect pairing.
February reading goals. Currently reading The Great American Whatever, The Golem and the Jinni is my book club selection, and the rest of these lovelies are due back at the library in the next three weeks. Time to get some reading in! #readallthethings #bookdragon
A slight but charming LGBT coming-of-age story. Liked the writing but not the script conceit favored by the main character.
This book felt like actually interacting with a teen. Thoughts were not always connected, dialogue was not always sequenced, and there was an underlying structure which only one character knew. But it was an interesting look at how a family dealt with grief and how a teen moved on. #LitsyAtoZ #F
How on earth did the news of this terrible book deal and a tweet from Donald freaking Trump, who I don't even follow, end up in my daily Twitter email?!? Seriously twitter, are we going to have to have a talk?
A short, lovely read with a wonderful take on the classic coming of age story. I absolutely loved all of the characters as well as the screenplay format some of it was in.
The Great American Whatever is one of those books that unfolds like a movie in your head. It also demands that you eat snacks while reading it!!
I've met Tim Federle at SLJ's Day of Dialog 2015. I told how much I enjoyed his 2 middle grade novels since they centered around Broadway shows. Hearing him reading this teen novel is a treat because this story deals with life, love and death with humor and tears.
Listening to this on Playaway. I do love Tim Federle's writing!
I loved this! Sad, heartwarming and funny all at the same time. I fell in love with these characters. It's also filled with a lot of movie references for pop culture nerds like me. 🎥😍
Oh gosh, this story was so sad but SO GOOD. I couldn't stop reading it.
And here we go! I've heard a million and one good things about this book.
LGBT YA Audio Fun and slightly tropey. Boy likes boy. Boy struggles with being out. Boy overcomes. Not brilliant but decent filler.
Absolutely adored this. The relationships between friends, family, and self after a loss are explored honestly and sweetly.
A book that demands to be read in one day. Quinn is hilarious and blunt, and this novel was difficult yet enjoyable to read. It really made me think about personal experiences in my life and it drew some tears at the end. A wonderful story.
This book is hitting me where it hurts tonight.
52 pages and 6 chapters in and I can't stop. I'm always wary of reviews that say a character is "the new Holden Caulfield" or however it's phrased because Catcher is one of my all-time favorites, but this is pretty good. More reminiscent of Perks of Being a Wallflower, which I also love.
First trip to the library in my new town! Excited to start this one today. My currently reading list is getting out of hand...just a little 😁📚📚📚
So far, I don't really enjoy this book; it's a slow and slightly boring start. Also, not fond of the characters so far, but I'm hoping to enjoy it by the time I finish it!!!
If I could add an audio file to this review it would be of me screaming I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. The voice. The voice!!!!! And the characters and the story and the pitch perfectness of it all. One hundred thumbs up.
From this angle I can see that he is going to turn out genuinely cute someday. That sometimes I should let people just make up their own character description.
Loved Quinn, loved his best friendship and his crush, loved the movie refs. Since the author reads the audiobook, I may need to listen to that, too.
