At the opening of an art exhibition a man bursts into tears in front of one of the pictures, then says he has no memory of anything before seeing the picture. Nobody knows who he is but the next morning he is found hanged.
Intriguing mystery, interesting setting and characters.

Rereading. It‘s been 4 years since I read this. And I'd forgotten that ending! Also how all the middle aged people were having sex. Off page but still it was there. Yay! Thanks to my friend Haley that's also reading, I now see the Bella Sinclair as Shetland's Moira Rose.
Lots of character development for Inspector Perez. Setting of story during Simmer Dim when its never dark in Shetland was fascinating.

1. If I can‘t go hang out at Rivendell, I‘ll settle for a nice B&B in one of the nooks and crannies of Shetland.
2. A beautiful sunny day!

This installment of the Shetland Island series was just as enjoyable as the first. These are somewhat slow-paced books, especially for mysteries, but I actually enjoy that. It fits with the setting and the sense of deliberation and isolation that that setting brings. In this book, Cleeves also does a wonderful job describing high summer just south of the Arctic Circle, where the sun never goes down, effecting different people in different ways.⬇️
This is book 2 in the Shetland series and I‘m already wanting the third. I love Jimmy Perez and his story! I‘m trying to read the entire series so I can watch the show on BritBox. I can‘t wait to see what else is in store for Shetland Island! 🌟🌟🌟🌟!
Ann Cleeves writes extremely atmospheric stores; the location is truly a character in this book. I really like Jimmie Perez and the way this book was paced. I was happy to see that I already have the next book in this series so I expect I'll be putting it on a #BookSpinBingo list in the next few months. This was my #DoubleSpin for June @TheAromaofBooks
I was in the mood for a thriller more quiet and slow-burny and this fit the bill perfectly. It has been a good while since I read the first in this series but Ann Cleeves is so good, it felt like no time had passed at all. 👍🏼 #SeriesRead2021
Day 7 of #12booksof2020 brings us to July and the chance to dive back into a series I‘d started in 2019. After this I decided to binge the rest on audiobook, and it was a wonderful experience. Once I get caught up with Louise Penny, I might start on the Vera Stanhope series. 🏴🇨🇦🏴
I am now officially addicted to this series. Easily as good as the first, I was kept guessing until very, very late. I love the setting; I feel as if I could step off the ferry and find my way around. Even minor characters are well drawn. I‘m anxious now to read the next book.
No picture that really fits, so this is a shot of the mushrooms that sprang up after all the rain we had last week.
The download of this from CloudLibrary doesn‘t include the cover, but that‘s a minor detail. I was trying to decide what to read next when my hold arrived. Great timing 👍
It‘s midsummer in the Shetlands, and everyone is a little out of sorts because of the nearly constant daylight. Murders occur, secrets are uncovered, and meanwhile a romance blossoms. I‘m pleased to see that the next four books are available in audio form on cloudLibrary.
Book three of #midyearrush and I might finish another depending on how the day goes.
Thanks to @NeedsMoreBooks for the tag!
📚Now that the library will be opening, I‘m looking forward to reading the tagged book, which I put on hold in March.
☀️Summer activities are severely curtailed this year, but I might get to the beach at some point.
😀I had a nice “virtual office call” yesterday with a new colleague.
Hi, friends!

I think I liked this one even more than the first in the series. I was definitely more satisfied with the ending. I love the Shetland setting and am almost ready to rush out and buy the next series but I should be responsible and wait to see if my sister shares my enthusiasm first and check it out from the library if she doesn‘t.
A good follow up to the first book in the Shetland Islands series. We get to know DI Perez better, even DI Taylor who came from Inverness. Again, great descriptions of the place, this time in midsummer, when the days are long, the nights are light. I didn‘t quite like the conclusion, (I think the first book is better)..regardless, it‘s an absorbing read and I will continue the series as I like the characters development.
She wasn‘t sure what to say, was groping for something witty and self-deprecating, when she saw the man turn round. He fell to his knees, much as Roddy had done when he was playing the #violin. Then he put his hands over his face and began to weep. #QuotsyDec19
Well, I certainly didn‘t figure out who did it in this mystery! This second in the Shetland series (image is a map where this is set) didn‘t disappoint. Det Jimmy Perez is back at it with the overly energetic DI Taylor in tow, trying to find out who killed at least two people, and why. Reading this the last two nights made my insomnia bearable. Fingers crossed I can check out book 3 online tonight!
About a quarter of the way through this one, the second in the Shetland series. Question for anyone who‘s read the books and seen the TV series - what do you think about the adaptation? I‘ve only read and watched the first book (it‘s S2 E1 for TV) and was underwhelmed, despite liking all of the actors.
Finally finished this one ... I‘m loving this series... love Jimmy Perez ♥️ & how the guilty party is so unpredictable ( for me anyway ) .. 2 down 👍🏻
1. Loving tagged current read - been reading it for over a week I‘d say ... busy busy week.
2. Hopefully dog walks & reading & chill out time ( after cleaning the house with an audio The Wall , got a great deal today @Ms_T 😉
3. Not a fan of ice cream , but vanilla

4. I don‘t ... not musical 🤷🏻♀️
5. I will ofcorse 👍🏻
There is so much beautiful writing about nature & the sea , I love it all so much! Here‘s a random quote that made me smile. I feel Ann Cleeves is so much in the mind & the community of the people she writes , she has them down to a T .... the dancing ♥️there‘s a lot of talk about the dancing 😊
On to the 2d in this Series... 🥰loving it
The second of the Shetland books I‘ve read and this one kept me guessing right until the big reveal. I love a book that keeps you wondering whodunnit!! I‘ll work my way through the series eventually, but for now I like to read one and then wait a while before I head north again!
Settling in for a bit of detective work before bed! I enjoyed the first one of the Shetland series. Cleeves makes you feel like you‘re on these islands and the landscape is as much of a character as the people in the story.
I quite liked the first of the series, but hadn‘t felt inclined to pick up the next until now! This was way, way better than the first. Really liked it and the murderer wasn‘t obvious until the very end. A good read.
Using for #booked2019 #nightorientedtitle
Character in my current read is homesick for Liverpool 😁 these are the sentimental things I‘d miss too!
No reading has been done today 😔 as I‘ve had to work all day due to needing to have a report ready by the end of tomorrow. Hoping to get an hour or so in before bed!
I put the book down for one second and this happened.
Perfect day for reading a murder mystery and drinking tea. 💜🍵🌧️
Chunky knits and a good book ... definitely a good way to spend a few stolen minutes to myself. I haven‘t been able to read much lately (or at all the past few days), so I needed this little #readingbreak
Multitasking
3⭐️ and a so-so for me. The pacing was a bit slow for me, although in a way it worked because I had a lot going on when I was reading this. The pace did mean I could pick it up and put it down relatively easily. I will likely continue the series at some point.
It's not wicked to have cream with your scones; they're incomplete without it! 😋
So, the premise sounds really good. I was hopeful. But, I was also listening to the audio, and it just couldn‘t hold my interest. I did follow enough at the start to get my little summary (and it‘s why the extra .25 stars), but it really went downhill after that, and I could rarely focus on what was going on. It makes me not want to continue the series, but I feel like I should try the 3rd one, just not on audio, and decide from there.
I liked this one even more than the first! Intriguing mystery that kept me guessing to the end. Lots of character development for Inspector Perez. Setting of story during 'midsummer madness' when its never dark in Shetland was fascinating. #literarybucketlist
Entertaining read, although making me want to plan a trip to Shetland which is just a teeny bit expensive coming from Australia.
Another great Shetland mystery. Of course my library does not own the third one and I have no book budget right now! Going to request a purchase. Great series!
Bk2 in the Shetland series & it feels like Cleeves is really hitting her stride with this setting. Her descriptions of Shetland are so evocative, you can hear the seagulls & the waves hitting the shingle, smell the salt & peat.DI Jimmy Perez is at an art exhibition in a small village on Main Isle when a stranger drops to the ground weeping, then disappears. When his body is found the next day, long buried secrets are exposed. My W book in #LitsyAtoZ
It's 4am here on Saturday morning, I can't sleep so I'm sitting in my library, reading a great book with a herbal tea and listening to the hard rain on the carport roof outside my window. I love these times. #perfectmornings
#FunFridayPhoto Beam me up Scotty! I'd be taking White Nights by Ann Cleeves, the 2nd book in the Shetland series with me on my intergalactic journey. Of course, I am in my library and there's a foot high stack of books right next to me too. Is there a weight limit on this spacecraft??
I am in love with this detective series! I have read 4 of them and they always keep me intrigued until the very end. Cleeves writes beautifully about the Shetland Islands north of Scotland and her characters are each so complex and human (even the smallest of them). If you are looking for a great story with characters you can follow through a series...this is it!
