Day 7 #WickedWhispers is #Spells

I guess I'll enjoy a book while I wait for the power to come back. Don't mind the messy candles :P
My book podcast is BACK from summer break and jumping right into a conversation with debut author Joelle Wellington about 2009‘s BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. It‘s a Southern gothic novel that explores witchcraft, first love, and teen angst… so you know there‘s plenty to unpack. 💜 Listen at the link in my bio!
I wanted to love this series but I now see what most reviews mention. It def fell short for me. I wasn‘t invested in the characters. The setting and the historical elements were the best part. Don‘t think I‘ll read the rest of this series. #seriesread2022 @TheSpineView

I was skeptical at first because this book was giving me Twilight-ish vibes, but it ended up getting better. I wasn‘t a huge fan of the ending, though, as I hate the “I‘ll risk everyone who‘s been here my whole life in order to save this dude I barely know” thing, but I understand that‘s a popular trope in YA novels. I do hope that Ridley and Marian are in the sequels, though, because I liked them way more than the main characters.
So I haven‘t really had time to read so I did this on audio book and I regret nothing. They performed the songs and they had background lightening and thunder. The book was good but those little details made it awesome.
I enjoyed the plot and the huge romance. Did find the pacing a bit slow at times and plot twists were predictable. I liked the magical aspects and the humour too, I also liked the southern atmosphere, and the world building. I may read the rest in the future as the ending left on a bit of a cliffhanger and I'm intrigued.
Day 12 of books from my #tbrpile.
It's taken a while, but I've finally finished it! This was my second read of beautiful creatures, I choose to read it again as I'm moving onto the second one and wanted to recap the story. Still really like this book, I love the characters, especially Macon, although maybe that's because Jeremy irons plays him in the movie. I do feel like the book is slightly too long though, it could do with being maybe 100 pages shorter.
I read this some while ago and I must say I had to read a bit of a summary before writing this review. And then it all came flooding back to me, like a suppressed memory suddenly surfaces. I didn't enjoy this particularly. It's not bad writing but it wasn't memorable. And the romance in it was very cringey to me.

So.. Being in the #ParanormalLoveCrew as well as this group -- of course I will be reading more and more paranormal books! I enjoy a bunch of the paranormal books I have read so far! So yeah! I love them!
So I have just binged both seasons of What We Do In Shadows! And they are super cute!

So absolute best would be just having powers! Can you imagine!? Powers would be so awesome! Of course!!! But yeah I think if I had to hide my “powers“ from others or like make sure people don't take advantage of me would be more of the difficult issues! Ha! But yeah..

“You are a miracle, why would you ever want to be normal?”- Beautiful Creatures
What do you think would be the best part of being a
paranormal creature? What would be the worst?
Favorite paranormal meme.
#NovelWatchingCrew #NWC
So this is so difficult. I want to say Eric (True Blood), Scott Howard (Teen Wolf), I would say Maleficent is amazing (I am counting her as paranormal)... Ugh! I am feeling nostalgic so I am going with Micheal J Fox :)
I really really loved Being Human .. It had everything, Vampire, Werewolf, Witches, Ghosts! I love loved loved it! I had stumbled across it and was super pleasantly surprised!

Here is the Weekly Check-In for the #NWC group.
We would love to have you join our groups! Everyone is welcome. 🤓
Feel free to answer this even if you aren't in the groups.

I can‘t decide if it‘s a high two star or a low three star. 😅 I think I would have enjoyed this more when I was younger, which for most is a given when reading YA as an adult, but there have been YA books I‘ve thoroughly enjoyed as an adult, so I feel like the “you‘re not the target audience” argument isn‘t justified. I found myself wanting to know more about the world building and some side characters rather than following Ethan and Lena‘s ⬇️
She...she snaps her umbrella shut TWICE?!? 🤔🤦♀️
Watching the movie now. I loved the book. I had seen the movie a while back so its great to revisit it. I think it was perfectly cast! -- Movie is available to stream on HBO

My own beautiful creature decided to make herself at home on my reading spot while I was checking on the chickens. 😅 I‘m honestly enjoying this book so far, surprising given my last few attempts at YA. There are plenty of bits that make me roll my eyes, but I‘ve also laughed out loud, am enjoying the world building, and truly am invested in the relationships of the characters, not just the romantic focus.
1. Tagged (and I just realized I didn‘t put it as one of the books on my July #BookspinBingo 🤦♀️)
2. A wyrm/dragon, of course! 😜 (I think it counts...)

“History was a bitch sometimes. You couldn‘t change where you were from.”
Ethan‘s mom and I could have been best friends...
I picked Beautiful Creatures because I had seen the movie a while back and remember liking it. Also the whole southern scenes and well.. It just “spoke to me“. I know there are a few of these books but.. I was trying to find something a little stand-alone ish.
I would initially say is Vampire... But... Thinking about it. I think a Witch would be better. There are less restrictions with the whole sun and what not.

Gunna do alittle bit of listening while I color on my phone before I jump to read Beastly. #NWC
@ElizaMarie @AsYouWish @jb72
So I found the audiobook for this and thought I'd jump on it since @ElizaMarie said it was really good this way. #NWC
@AsYouWish @jb72
So I am glad I got this one in Audio (I can't tell you how much I loved it in Audio) I think it wouldn't have drawn me in nearly as much if it were me reading it -- although the story is good anyway just the audio was that much better! Also a very sweet love story :)
I am going to let the book sit with me for a bit before I watch the movie :)

You have been claimed as a Siren caster!
(Wolf whistles) Like Ridley Duchannes you are a Siren! Sirens are female and seductive! Sirens have the ability to control mortals to make them do what they want them to do! If you would want a mortal to jump off a cliff...well....they would jump!
So I‘m not sure how many of you all picked this one for your choice but... I just started listening to it this morning as my “commute to work” book. Anyway I‘d you can get it on audio.. please do! It‘s got music and well very well done so far

*Update* New book added
Hello Littens and #NWC group. Here are the books for July for our Paranormal genre. You are more than welcome to read one or all.
Everyone is welcome in our groups! We would love to have you.
@ElizaMarie @AsYouWish @jb72
I saw the movie of this a few years ago without reading the book (yikes - I know), so jumped at the chance to listen to this. I loved listening to this on audio! Sound effects and the ethereal music from the book are the soundtrack of the reading. It is light horror, with an eery Southern haunted town vibe. Glad I listened to it...of course, it was different from the movie! My choice for #MadeIntoOrBecomingAMovie for #TeenAngst #BBRC
Ethan is haunted by nightmarish dreams of a girl he has never met. When Lena, the girl from his dreams, moves to town to live with her eccentric uncle at the infamous Ravenwood plantation, he is determined to uncover the reason for their connection. As a YA paranormal/southern gothic novel, it was light on the dark atmospheric setting I was hoping for. I‘ll hang on to it for now as my daughter might enjoy it. ⭐️⭐️ #ReadTheUSA2020 #SouthCarolina
Beautiful creatures revolves around the town of Gatlin with the two main characters being Ethan Wate and Lena Duchannes. In this small town, everyone knows everyone and everything. When Lena comes into town as the new kid (and as the town's shut in's niece) everything changes for Ethan. Between finding out he's the girl he's been dreaming about since his mom died and their mental connection, it's not hard to say they're meant to be. (See comments)
#58 #BeautifulCreatures #KamiGarcia #MargaretStohl GR: 1/5 ⭐️ So firstly on reflection I think I should change my rating to 2/5 BUT I like to rate immediately afterwards as my feelings on a book are still fresh. Paranormal/Magical Realism are my favourite YA genres and I think I struggled with this book so much due to it being SO LONGGGG, with a lot of unnecessary scenes. Would recommend the graphic novel though!
This book is really nice. The concept is different from most dark magic books. Its a tale about two high-school students and one of them is possesses magic. I like how the story unravels and adds characters to add plot twists. It was definitely an experience.
I am currently in the process of getting the books off the floor of my library and into our new shelving. I am discarding a few books along the way. Unfortunately the cost of postage means I'm only offering them to Melbourne Littens at this stage. I'm tagging those of you I know. Let me know if you're interested in any of them. Here is the first bundle, there will be more!
Not awful. Not great. Meh.
Evening reading! And going to find a glass of wine to go with it.....
I just finished this book. I had watched the movie years ago. And have been meaning to read this book, it is book 1 of 4. I am curious how it will go.
When Ethan Wate has very real dreams, so real he awakes covered in mud or sopping wet. He is shocked to discover the girl he has been dreaming about is real. And the new girl in school. Little does he know what a crazy year it will be.
“Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” This Wizard of Oz quote makes me think of this series of books, all of which have plenty of magic moments. #jazzyjune @Eggs #magicmoment Also pretend you don‘t see my reflection taking the picture 😋
Sorry for the late reply @LokiDokey I was on a trip!

Happy first day of the #bookishfitnesschallenge !! I‘ll be off to a slow start: work is busy and I‘m moving so my two mile walk isn‘t likely until Monday (working this weekend). No veggies at lunch today because I was in a rush (see above). So focusing on getting my 40 ounces of water and queuing up one of my two audiobooks. Even when you can‘t meet EVERY goal EVERY day, focusing on one is better than nothing!
The characters were well constructed but the story was unoriginal and uninteresting
I never loved you anymore than I do, right this second. And I'll never love you any less than I do, right this second.
