I found Dumplin‘ fairly depressing for a 'feel good read'. Will seems to make ‘being fat‘ her whole personality. Hardly a page goes by where she doesn‘t mention it. I know that teenagers, especially those who don‘t fit the mold of traditional beauty standards, can be a bit obsessive and self-critical, but it just felt over the top. I laughed, I cried, I cheered and I wanted more! All the ingredients for an enchanting read. Oh and let‘s not forget all that Dolly Parton fanfare. Loved it all! 🙌🏻

Such a cute story. I really enjoyed all the very different characters, they each had their own personality. I did feel like some parts of it could have been explored more. I enjoyed it more than I was expecting.

I think maybe it‘s the things we don‘t want to talk about that are the things people most want to hear.

Willowdean Dickson, her friends, and her love interests came alive in this book and I was taken by how well Murphy depicted first love and insecurity and the challenge of preserving friendships even while growing and changing. Along with being a sweet romance and homage to Dolly Parton, Dumplin‘ is a heartfelt and genuine story about learning who you are and who you want to be. Skip the dumbed down Netflix move - the book is where it‘s at!

How can I do justice to the profound, brilliant, heart-wrenching book that is Dumplin‘? This book was soul-stirring, with a humorous dialog. Watching Willowdean fight her own demons without her Aunt Lucy in her corner was difficult, but it makes the book all the more real and powerful.

If you want a book that radiates body-positivity and that makes you want to laugh (and cry). This book is for you. This book is for everyone.

A pretty good book. I think I had built it up in my head, so it felt a little disappointing. I didn‘t like Bo, I don‘t know if that is an unpopular opinion or not, but it just bugged me how she kept going back to him. I wish that the drag queen bar had made more of an appearance than just two chapters, but it was still a good book. I‘ll probably watch the movie soon, too. 4⭐️

I walked into this knowing the little that I knew from the Netflix adaptation but the book was definitely better.

Once I got into reading this and having Willowdean in my head, I stayed way past what I should have to finish it because there is definitely more to this book than the tiaras and pageants. She is such a voice, aware of herself and her shortcomings, loves with all her heart, and like many wonders where she fits in the world.

#Movie2BookRecs #jenniferaniston 23. I loved both of these so much, just a fun story. But if you want a little more crazy family, mother/daughter dynamics, The Secret Life of Bees with Queen Latifah is a good one too.

So I binged this one like crazy! I had a day where I was doing errands and its so not hard to finish a whole book (9hrs) in a span of 48 hrs :) Anyway this was really cute. It made me sad though about all the “fat“ things she was so scared of! And I get it .. truly I do but its just sad :( #TBRread

Whatcha Doin? Havent done much today. Had to wake up early for a dentist appointment for me and the hubby (which I hate going to the doctors... hubby is making me 😒). Then we had to come back home for my son's therapy session. And havent done shit since... just watching Private Practice. I need to get on some chores tho. Just no energy to do it. All I wanna do it lay back down.

The word fat makes people uncomfortable. But when you see me, the first thing you notice is my body. And my body is fat. It‘s like how I notice some girls have big boobs or shiny hair or knobby knees. Those things are okay to say. But the word fat, the one that best describes me, makes lips frown and cheeks lose their color.

I don‘t have to wear a dress to work. There‘s a pants option, too. But the elastic waist on the polyester pants wasn‘t quite elastic enough to fit over my hips. I say the pants are to blame. I don‘t like to think of my hips as a nuisance, but more of an asset. I mean, if this were, like, 1642, my wide birthing hips would be worth many cows or something.

El is everything I am not. Tall, blond, and with this impossible goofy yet sexy paradox going on that only seems to exist in romantic comedies. She‘s always been at home in her own skin.

So I feel like I have been working my butt off lately. So I am gunna take this night for myself and read. I hope that isn't selfish. Plus I have an appointment that I am dreading tomorrow (the dentist) and need to get out of my head. So I will jump into my choice for #NWC for December. I loved the movie and really have wanted to get into this book. Me being a bigger girl and all, it connects with me.

A sweet book about judging girls based on looks. Girls are sent so many messages about their bodies - by their moms, peers, media, society. These messages become stories that run an incessant loop in their heads. A great reminder for everyone of how we need to stop judging others and ourselves.

Loved the movie. Loved the book more. Some characters that were cut from the movie, I found very enjoyable. Their storylines really broadened the story.

Great read ❤️ Julie Murphy has a comical way of telling a story while also addressing serious issues underneath. Love the way she addresses different body image issues that young girls face; it sends such a positive message about self-acceptance. Definitely recommend this book!

I have the whole house to myself for the first time since the pandemic started. The kids are with my parents and the hubby is golfing. The dogs and I are going to spend a quiet morning reading!#dogsiflitsy
