A Simple Favor [Movie Tie-in]
A Simple Favor [Movie Tie-in]: A Novel | Darcey Bell
A single mother's life is turned upside down when her best friend vanishes in this chilling debut thriller in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Trainnow a major motion picture from Lionsgate starring Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, and Henry Golding, and directed by Paul Feig Debut-novelist Darcey Bell ramps up suspense with authority in this domestic thriller, in which actions seem as inevitable as they are chilling. The audience that made Gone Girl a publishing sensation is likely to take to this one, too.Booklist (starred review) It starts with a simple favoran ordinary kindness mothers do for one another. When glamorous Emily asks Stephanie to pick up her son after school, Stephanie happily says yes. Emily has a life that would make any woman jealous. She is the perfect mother with a dazzling career working for a famous fashion designer in Manhattan. Stephanie, a widow with a son in kindergarten, lonely in their Connecticut suburb, turns to her daily blog for connection and validation. Stephanie imagines Emily to be her new confidante and is shocked when Emily suddenly disappears without a trace, leaving her son and husband with no warning. Stephanie knows something is terribly wrong. Unable to keep away from the grieving family, she soon finds herself entangled with Sean, Emilys handsome, reticent British husband. But she cant ignore the nagging feeling that hes not being honest with her about Emilys disappearance. Is Stephanie imagining things? How well did she really know her best friend? Stephanie begins to see that nothingnot friendship, love, or even an ordinary favoris as simple as it seems. A Simple Favor exposes the dark underbelly of female friendship in this taut, unsettling, and completely absorbing story that holds you in its grip until the final page.

Here‘s my #TLT 3!

1️⃣ The Princess Bride movie is perfection & never needs to be remade & it‘s much better than the book! 👑

2️⃣ I love Neil Gamin‘s Coraline, even better than the book is the audiobook & Dakota Fanning & Teri Hatcher make the stop-motion animated film another level of creepy good! 🖤

3️⃣ The tagged book was only so-so but add Anna Kendrick & Blake Lively & I can watch the film version over & over! 👯‍♀️

Susanita I agree about Princess Bride. What was charming in the movie was annoying in the book. 8mo

A SIMPLE FAVOR is an excellent psychological thriller that kept me guessing and wondering what really was going on in the lives of the characters.

Have you read this book?

It definitely is NOT a SIMPLE favor.

A different twist than the one in the movie, still a good shock factor. Sadly I think the movie was actually better than the book on this one.

This is one of those cases where the movie was better. I can't say much else without spoiling it, but the book's plot twist wasn't nearly as exciting.

Anyway, Winston tuckered himself out playing with the ball and didn't mind me setting the book on him for a photo. Maybe I should start yet another Litsy, "BooksOnPets". (Kidding this time ?).

Rachel.Rencher BTW, this is a pocket edition. I realized that this photo makes Winston look giant. 😅 4y

This wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but that's not necessarily a bad thing either. I love dark twisty thrillers with disturbed characters doing awful things. This book wasn't that but it was still an enjoyable read. I loved the dark humour of one of the female characters it was engaging. Two fairly new best friends, one asks the other for a favour and then she goes missing. It was fun, twisty, engaging, definitely worth reading. ⭐⭐⭐

I loved the movie based on this book, so I'm hoping the book is just as good. Also, enjoy my Saturday aesthetic: llama cactus pajama pants covered in dog hair, while being stared at by the shedder in question.

I saw the movie and thought it was the weirdest thing ever. After reading the book, I can say that it's still really weird. It felt like I was reading a compilation of Bond villain monologues with a sprinkling of fictional blog posts tossed in. Having the story told from multiple perspectives was beneficial, but none were of characters I was rooting for.

Second day of #24B4Monday is almost finished and this is my progress so far. I've finished A Simple Favor and Clockwork Angel (I was halfway through this one) and I'm a third into The Mystery of the Blue Train.
I will try to read tomorrow as much as I can, but I doubt it I will get much reading done since I'm pretty busy tomorrow.
All in all I'm really happy with my time.

A Simple Favor is the debut thriller novel by Darcey Bell. It was first published on March 21, 2017, by Harper. The novel centers on Stephanie, a mom blogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily's sudden disappearance from their small town in Connecticut.

Also made into a movie in 2018.

SPOILERS AHEAD. It's going to be impossible to discuss A Simple Favor at all without spoilers, so be ready.⠀
*⠀
*⠀

*⠀
The audiobook uses three readers for the three points of view in the novel. The first section of the novel focuses entirely on Stephanie and her blog. Stephanie is a widow and mother who is still reeling from the death of her husband and her half-brother in the same accident. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod As part of her grieving process and her focus on her son, Stephanie writes a mommy blog. Stephanie's best friend, Emily, is the glamorous mother of Stephanie's son's best friend. Emily works for a fashion designer and is married to Sean, a wealthy and enigmatic Brit. When Emily disappears after asking Stephanie for the "simple favor" of watching her son for an evening, Stephanie sets out to discover what happened to her friend. ⬇️ 5y
UnabridgedPod The novel has its moments, and I'm definitely glad that I listened to the audiobook, as the readers were quite great. I did, however, find the plot to be predictable. There were twists and plots points that were definitely mean to be shocking, but at the end of the era that brought us Gone Girl, there just wasn't much of a shock to be had. 5y

A twisted domestic suspense novel that I enjoyed for the first 3rd, despite some juicy, yet unpalatable plot points, but it ended up devolving into a repetitive & disappointing work with quite a few noticeable plot holes. Stephanie changed from a neurotic mommy blogger with ugly secrets to a bumbling, people-pleasing idiot, & I found Emily's motives & control over people unbelievable. I still really want to see the movie! 2.5⭐️s
