I came to this #PemberLittens #HashtagBrigade #buddyread having read Little Women a couple times in the past. With this reading, I picked up on Alcott‘s casual mention of domesticity for women—so 19th century! 😂 I still like the book, but I think my love for it has quieted a bit. My feelings may change again if I reread this 10 years from now—who knows!

BarkingMadRead I think this is why I love the movie so much, it doesn‘t focus on that so much 4mo

My favorite of the week is the book I just finished. Ultimately a story about trying to find where you belong and the struggles you experience when you try to make the wrong thing fit. As I was reading I realized this may be the first contemporary fiction book I‘ve read set in China. 4 🌟

BarbaraBB Looking forward to this one. I don think I‘ve read much about current China either. Interesting! 8mo

A twisted domestic suspense novel that I enjoyed for the first 3rd, despite some juicy, yet unpalatable plot points, but it ended up devolving into a repetitive & disappointing work with quite a few noticeable plot holes. Stephanie changed from a neurotic mommy blogger with ugly secrets to a bumbling, people-pleasing idiot, & I found Emily's motives & control over people unbelievable. I still really want to see the movie! 2.5⭐️s

ElizaMarie I really enjoyed the movie. It was aesthetically pleasing 5y
KT1432 @ElizaMarie it looks so good! The casting seems perfect. 5y

Usually, books that languish on my shelves end up with a big 👎👎 from me when I do finally read it. I‘m glad this little gem bucked the trend! Published in 1989, I overlooked the fact that this was not an Own Voices book, because it was clear the author did her research and spent time in the culture she was writing about. I loved Shabanu, and esp her relationship with her family‘s 🐫 🐫🐫.

I couldn‘t care less about fashion designers. But despite the constant string of designer names and descriptions of clothing, I still enjoyed this one. It‘s a fun beach read.

suzisteffen This is me too! Had a great time reading it, skipped the fashion names. 😂 Also I enjoyed the movie, especially the street food and wedding scenes. 6y
