For a Muse of Fire is a magnificent, compelling book about a young woman struggling with mental illness, her identity, and a magic both terrifying and delightful. After the death of her brother in the armée, Jetta supports her family by enchanting their shadow puppets.

The most thrilling moments in life are when everything comes together.
The delicious chords when harmony joins melody. The way a scrap of leather, a shaft of light, and a clever player can make a shadow come alive.

This was a very interesting read. It definitely got my heart racing throughout the book. I can‘t wait to read what happens in the rest of the series. I strongly recommend reading this if you‘re interested in extraordinary reads. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fantastic book! Set in a world that is reminiscent of Southeast Asia and French colonization there is a wonderful mix of innocence, politics, madness, and magic. I couldn‘t believe it when I had finished it, it went so quick. Starting on book 2, cause I just can‘t wait to see what happens next.

I just finished this book & loved it. This fantasy world that Heidi has created doesn‘t fit the typical mold. She draws on a lot of real world influence, but manages to create something totally different. Her handling of Jetta‘s bipolar disorder is elegantly done. The pacing for most of the book is slower than the typical YA novel, and I suspect that will turn off some readers. The story is carefully crafted, though. I can‘t wait for the sequel.

It‘s a rainy day here in Richmond. Wicket is not happy that it probably means no walk at the park for him today (I agree with him). We‘re just chilling out in bed while I make a dent in my “currently reading” list with some Heidi Heilig. #RainyDayBlues

I love this exchange between Leo and Jetta. There are so many layers of meaning behind it. Heidi gives so much depth to all of the characters in Jetta‘s story. #bookquote #ForAMuseOfFire #HeidiHeilig

It might seem an odd thing to get excited about, but Heidi Heilig avoids one of my least favorite tropes: when someone is knocked out, then simply wakes up and shakes it off like it‘s no big deal. Jetta‘s experience here reads authentic for a concussion. Heidi has also done an excellent job within this book capturing Jetta‘s struggle with her bipolar disorder without ever calling it that. #HeidiHeilig #mentalhealth #bipolar

So this book wasn't my favorite. I like the idea and the concept and I like the main character but I couldn't really get into it and in don't know why. Maybe I'll reread it another time to try it again because I feel like it could be amazing and maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this kind of book 🤷‍♀️ But I did really enjoy that in-between the chapters there were notes, letters, sheet music, and scripts that added to the story

I had to behave on buying books (I‘d have bought SO many, if I‘d had the option), so I settled on taking my copies of The Ship Beyond Time & For a Muse of Fire to get signed by Heidi Heilig. I was stunned when Heidi recognized me from our past exchanges on Twitter, and she had much love for my hat (this it‘s inclusion in this pic). My lone purchase of the day was Katherine Locke‘s girl with the Red Balloon. #BookHaul #LooseUseOfTheHashtag #NTBF19

CrowCAH OMG isn‘t that great when an author remembers you?! I ❤️ The Girl From Everywhere ⚓️⚔️☠️!!! Did you read the Red Balloon when it was a Big Library Read selection? April 1-15 is the next BLR text. 6y
BillBlume @CrowCAH I‘ve only just started reading Girl with the Red Balloon. Sadly, my reading time these days is dreadful. I need more time! And honestly, I was dumbstruck that Heidi recognized me. I had no expectation of that and hope she‘ll come back to Virginia when her next book comes out. (edited) 6y

One of the big highlights of NoVaTeen this year was finally getting to meet Heidi Heilig in person. She was on the panel for writing in a series. I loved her novel The Girl from Everywhere, and I can‘t wait to read her latest For a Muse of Fire. I was so dumbstruck that I forgot to get a picture when she signed my books. I just happened to find this picture of me in Heidi‘s line from another author‘s Instagram story. #NoVaTeenBF #NTBF19

I just have to include my beautiful stack of #litjoycrate books that I posted to Instagram! These are my small collection of their reversible dust jackets which include art inspired by the book themselves; I hope they keep doing it bc I love it😍📚 #books #tbr #aesthetic

That-Bookish-Hiker Do they do that with every book? 6y

Cailey_Mac @That-Bookish-Hiker @hermyknee They‘ve done it for those months, but they didn‘t this past month (December) I subscribed to the book only option, and I watch for their announcement of the “reversible dust jackets”. So far I‘ve enjoyed their book picks, so I think it‘s worth it anyways😊😊 plus I‘m a sucker for gorgeous art! (edited) 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Cailey_Mac they do a book only option?! That‘s awesome! I like the extra goodies but just don‘t have the room for them so being able to just get the book is a huge seller for me. 6y
Cailey_Mac @That-Bookish-Hiker yes, and that‘s what sold it for me! I love the idea of exclusive covers, but I‘m running out of nicknack room😅 For their January theme, I did read they are doing a reversible dust jacket too🙌🏼📖 I really do hope they do it every month in 2019! Even though book covers are stunning nowadays, the artwork is just seriously gorgeous! 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Cailey_Mac how do you like the books they chose? 6y
Cailey_Mac @That-Bookish-Hiker So far, I‘ve liked them all!(kind of like OwlCrate in that sense) I have yet to read the last two, which are For a Muse of Fire and The Wren Hunt, but they are at the top of my list to read next (edited) 6y

Being totally upfront: I detested the main female character. She's literally every characteristic I hate in females in YA. I really liked the concept and the world (thought I do need it to keep being fleshed out). My fav part was the lineage mysteries surrounding the MC's brother and her own parentage. It was a rough start but it got better as the book progressed. I definitely want to know where the plot goes for certain characters.

Such a wonderful book. The pacing is breakneck. I thought the varied story telling techniques would be distracting, but they only served to improve an already stellar book. And that cover! Probably my favorite cover of the year so far!

This cover has been done. It is a typical YA fantasy cover right now, and from a few years ago, but it is still solid and interesting, and will appeal to ale readers as well as female.

A young woman with a dangerous power she barely understands. A smuggler with secrets of his own. A country torn between a merciless colonial army, a terrifying tyrant, and a feared rebel leader.

The first book in a new trilogy from the acclaimed Heidi Heilig blends traditional storytelling with ephemera for a lush, page-turning tale of escape and rebellion. For a Muse of Fire will captivate fans of Sabaa Tahir, Leigh Bardugo, and Renée Ahdieh.

dragondrool Great cover! 6y
