Now we're getting somewhere....

I'm going to try to make progress in the tagged Chunkster, my #Bookspin. I am also getting started on my irl bookclub January pick, The Lost Bookshop, and try to get my husband to read more with me in our read aloud of The Storyteller. #weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

Buddy read with @Branwen and @DaveGreen7777 💕💕 LOVE YOU BOTH!
This was an enjoyable Tolkien-inspired epic fantasy. I feel like I can't really rate it properly because the story is only just beginning!
Chosen one vibes, hordes of Trollocs, the classic struggle of good versus evil, local folks at the inn going feral for bangers played on the flute!
I liked it best when they reached the cities, or when Moiraine started kicking ass!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the second book in the series, so the world building gets extended and elaborated, but it is mainly done to support the plot development. Recurrent secondary characters get more details and depth as well.

It's a rather typical hero journey set in a magical world. Two stories being told by the protagonist, Kai the demon: one from the current adventure trip to save friends and to unravel an intrigue and the one that happened about sixty years ago and actually set the scene for the current one.
The story is fast-pacing, the alternations between the past and the present are logical and well meshed.

What amazing world building! The story of El, a former slave and current courier, who encounters a Haunt who just so happens to be inhabiting the body of a prince. El is enlisted to help the Haunt and the prince solve a mystery threatening their empire.

This friendship-fueled whimsical adventure was everything I wished for, filled with breezy humor and clever banter.
This light-hearted, slice-of-life fantasy about new beginnings, second chances, and little mischief is always a joy to read.
Travis's narration makes these books come alive on a whole new level.

Hey, guys! Hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. I wanted to take a second to post my first book haul of 2026 even though I technically received these for Christmas. It‘s my blog I can make the rules up if I want to. 😂
Honestly, though, we‘ve been so busy I‘m just now getting to them. I‘m reading The Will of Many right now but what should I pick up next? Any suggestions?

Last but not least, December! The tagged book would have been among my favorites no matter what month it was read, but for this month it was no contest.
Inner Harbor was a page turner, and I appreciated the local setting, but the story was OTT.
The two anthologies were disappointing. I‘d started both previously (should have been a clue?) and wanted to clear them out by year-end. Blanket Cats was my #bookspin choice.

Here‘s my review for this book I finished reading at 4 AM. I was very tired yesterday from going out to lunch but I was ready to finish this book because it was sitting on my currently reading shelf on Goodreads for too long.
