pickWhat a read this was. Its very dark and a little gory at times but such a good read. The plot is steady but builds to a brilliant show down. The ending was well done and tied the story up perfectly. The story is well written and descriptive. The atmosphere and imagery was really well done and I enjoyed the links to Norse mythology. Sorry I've been awol but have spent the last week in the hospital. That was an experience but luckily our local and amazing NHS hospital is currently covid free. I found this to be highly immersive especially with the brogue-ish accent by Alana Kerr Collins...she performed the narration quite well, actually.

pickomg I finally read it! Thank GOODNESS for the audiobook because Scandinavian, Viking, Celtic, Gaelic pronunciations just go right over my head. I'm mind blown how much happens in one single book! I love fantasy historical fictions and standalones so this was pretty perfect. I loved the characters. The change of cultures was really refreshing for me. I DEVOURED this romance. Enemies to lovers is such a good trope and it was so well used in this.
I'm definitely in the mood for a Viking-y feeling book so it's finally go time on this one

I have to say that I‘m disappointed with this one. The premise seemed really promising, but a combination of the author‘s annoying writing style and the way the story was told turned this one into a “meh” read. The fact that Ciara‘s and Lief‘s relationship had a heavy emphasis on lust instead of love bothered me and was kind of weird. Also, the battle scenes, even if they were key parts of the book, were short and lasted a few pages.
Going to probably finish this today seeing I have jury duty.
About to Re-read this so I can read the second one I won from Goodreads.
Well, 50% in and this book has told me that a girl is to blame if men make the attempt to rape her, and that even a tough warrior girl needs to be saved from rape by a tougher, good-looking, noble saviour.
WHAT THE FUCK?!
Since The Boneless Mercies was such a let-down, I am deeply unsatisfied and find myself craving more Norse-inspired historical fantasy.

pickI picked up this book having been told it was good, but what I read blew me away! Ciara was a complex heroine who drew me in and I loved this book from the first to the last page! This gets a full Five Stars from me for weaving a dynamic take on both Celtic and Viking culture and mythology!
